The students at these poor performing schools are surrounded at home by people like my kid's mom who don't give a damn. And you can not blame the teachers or the school for that. She could have stayed with me or any of my family members that would have put her on the right track. The judge outright asked her verbatim if your child could go somewhere to do better wouldn't you want that? Her mom flat out said no. I suppose everyone in that courtroom was shocked.

I was born in the projects, but somehow my parents had the mind to get the hell out of there. You have women staying up in bad areas and having multiple kids get killed. When hurricane Katrina went through New Orleans how many people did not want to leave? At some point people have to take personal responsibility. The USA is full of opportunity, but nobody is going to knock on your door and hand it to you in a giftwrapped package, especially if you are doing less to earn it than other people that may deserve it. It is the job of the parents to raise a kid up the way it should go, not the teacher or the schools. They are only there to present the information and assist in skills development.

Michael Jordan's coach was at home sleep while he was up at all times of night and morning honing his skills. The coach could teach him and guide him in the way to go, but he could not be at his house making sure he was doing what it took outside of normal team hours; the same as teachers can not go home with the students to make sure they are doing what needs to be done outside of normal school hours. The parents are supposed to be there for that.

When I was born my dad was 21 and my mom 18. My dad did manual labor and construction and talked my mom into going to trade school for secretarial work. Nobody gave them anything and there was no special case; just 2 people that wanted something out of life and were willing to work for it. And that is how it was with all the parents in the neighborhood that I grew up in. People going out working everyday, not making excuses and waiting for someone to give them something.

The job of a parent is to make sure their kids have it better than them and will grow up to be able to support themselves. That certainly is not going to happen by sitting on the couch watching Jerry Springer everyday and not giving a damn whether your kid is doing their schoolwork.

In absolute terms, I mean going to the best schools for example. If you go to the best law school, if you do well at school, you are going to get a job before your graduation at 24. In general, when your parents have more resource to put you in a better school, you are ahead of others in terms of starting point. That is what is not fair. Fairness and simple term here is the students should have equal opportunity independent of their parents' wealth. That is one reason some schools will pick students evenly and some guarantee you can get in as long as you are in the top 10% regardless which school you go to. But even that, the average students from below average school will suffer in new school, at least initially.

My parents are like your parents. I don't know if you eventually went to a top college or not, but if you did, didn't you see the available opportunities were different compared to average college?

Many states offer free testing through Planned parenthood clinics. For the main culprits like gonorrhea, chlamydia syphilis and HIV. Also they offer mouth swab for Gon and Chlamydia free of charge which is good since they usually are asymptomatic when you have them orally. Other stds exams are worth getting done as well and may be covered by your insurance.

Certain at home tests can also check for less talked about ones like ureaplasma (a commensal, not classic sti but sexually transmitted, mycoplasma, trichomoniasis and molluscum contagiosim (careful with girls with itchy pimplelike lesions with dimple in center on butt thighs or groin).

Also be careful because if exposed to HIV it takes body up to 3 months to develop the antibodies that would show up in a test.
