I have flown both Emirates and Etihad and would choose the latter. Leg room was decent (flew Beijing - London via Abu Dhabi), service good, TVs in every seat, new aircraft. Not a lot to do in Abu Dhabi airport so it's a good thing you are only there a couple of hours.

I'm not a really big fan of the bar beers my usual stalking grounds being Beach Road and soi 6 (together with the odd attempt at non WG pickups - with very mixed results given the slight age difference between myself and the girls I'm attempting to pick up - but ever the optimist!!)

Are you talking about Lucifer's on Walking Street? I'd like to know more because I've never seen any 'Thai Bars' on Walking Street, only out on Third Road, Thepprasit Road, and other hinterland sois.

In some of the small streets on the side of WS (i.e. Soi BJ), there are a few Thai bars where WG and LB drink Thai Whiskey (often black market whiskey, worde than legal Thai whiskey). that's probably what's been referred to.

Pattaya June/July ‘10

I visited Pattaya twice during the last 2 months for a total of 18 days and this is just a quick synopsis of the 2 trips.

Definitely not as busy as the same time last year but with some of the new Go Go’s opening up since then the quality and quantity was there in a few places, although some of the smaller and quieter ones could produce the odd gem.

I stayed at the reliable and comfortable Pasadena Lodge in Soi LK Metro as per my previous trips.

Overall I would say that the best places and also the busiest, especially at weekends, in terms of choice and quality of girls were the following,

Baccara, Cavern, Peppermint, Secrets in WS and Papayagogo in Soi Diana and Champagne in LK Metro.

I also visited the Rioja club, off Threppasit Road, 3 times in the late afternoon and the selection was good on 2 occasions and thin on the other. I barfined only once, a superb body in a pink trouser suit for 1000 THB all in for the room on the prenises.

I also enjoyed a couple of afternoons with some of the nice girls from the Pattaya Teen Massage establishment, off Soi Buakhao at my hotel, all the services I required supplied with no problem on 4 occasions.

Some bargains to be had beer wise if you are up for it early, as along 2nd Road in particular you could get a bottle of Leo etc for 40 baht, which is exceptional value in my experience. I drank draft most of the time and most of the places had it on for 59/60 baht a glass, the best of these being Secrets Tiger IMHO at 60 baht. Some of the places give you a smaller glass than others for the 59 baht price.

The Blues club was still Rockin the tunes all be it to a half empty place, a sure sign of the times, even at the weekend.

I barfined from all of the above mentioned places and enjoyed a satisfactory experience on all occasions. I also barfined a farm fresh cutie from the Beach club who needed a bit of encouragement and instruction but provided a most enjoyable time on the 2nd night, the first was spent learning the ropes and was adequate only.

I wandered down Soi 6 only twice for an early evening quickie in Saigon and Kiss Kool where I found the offerings to my taste. A lot of girls and absolutely no punters here at all, I was expecting the tumble weed to come rolling into view at any minute.

On the culinary front I ate at the newly opened Goose’s Fish n Chip place on 2nd Road next to the entrances to Soi 7 and 8, top quality fish, chips and peas on all visits, otherwise I stuck to the Thai places in Soi Buakhao or the Beer Garden.
