Average third year university student: Place him/her in front of a map of the world, ask "Where is Thailand? " Invariably, without even thinking of looking at the names on the map, their over-inflated sense of Thailand's scope and size will have them instantly point to North America. It pisses Thais off to no end when you show them the reality.

Now, if you really want to have fun, try the same thing with a teacher. It's predictable but embarrassing as hell when they say "Impossible, impossible! Oh, but, wait.

Here is a great one I used to hear all the time in Chiang Mai: "Thailand must be the most wonderful place on earth, look how many farangs come here! "

Thai methods of learning are essentially based on the way boys were educated in the what for centuries, chanting and rote memorization. Hammering home the the "Five Precepts" then over-inflating the precious egos of young men about to enter monkhood. This was accepted as the standard method to keep control of male adolescence.

Talk about corrupting values to maintain the status quo?

Present day Thai schools: Chaotic classrooms, attempted rote memorization, the failure to do so, then cheating without consequence. It has become the way of life here and replicated [i]ad nauseum[/i] throughout the Thai lifecycle.

I don't tend to read the board when I'm in Thailand. I just got back to the US from a year just outside Chiang Rai yesterday; its nice to be back home, but I thought I'd just check in here.
It seems nothing changes, the same pedantic and boring posts by "Old Thai Hand."

I don't see eye to eye with everything everyone has ever posted here on the Thailand thread. But life is sometimes we agree to disagree and it should be no different when you post! Have just left BKK and gone on to Pattaya. BKK was great fun, but one thing that was markedly different from my last trip was that there are a lot less mongerers there than when I was here same time two years ago. Think there's quite a few people that have been worried about going because of the political situation here.

The upside of this is that my sense is that the girls are more keen on getting barfined, last trip I would be paying around 2,000 to 2,500 bhat to take a go-go girl for long time. This time around I was paying pretty much 1,500 for long time and they were happy with that. Had no trouble with getting things like filming and picture taking included in the 1,500 bhat either. Bar fines were 500 rather than 600 last time, and happy hour 50 bhat draft beer specials ran for the full night at many places.

Downside is that whenever I would venture into a bar there would not be that many girls on scene and they would look bored, then being swamped by mama-san and waitresses suggesting that I should buy lady drinks, balls (I already have two balls, why do I need to buy any more...) and so on.

Sean is just expressing an opinion and I think and hope that this is still allowed here. I imagine OTH winds quite a few up with his 'last word on everything Thai' opinions and his denigration of those who have the temerity to disagree with him. Actually I thought he said several months ago that he was going to fuck off and stop boring us all blind, anyway. But seems that ISG is a drug he cannot kick.

Anyways, the guy doesn't need a lot of OTH clones running to his rescue when criticized. He is a big boy and can answer for himself.

You might think for a minute and be consistent in your opinion which is within your right! That you criticize one and not the other! If you criticize OTH, would it not be consistent that you do the same with Sean_Double since he was the first to draw first blood by criticizing OTH for his opinion. I will be returning for a short trip to BKK pretty soon. I wanted to get some updated information. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any DOM/sub scene in BKK? Like the club Bar Bar in Patpong for instance? Or any other for that matter? Any private providers specializing in this genre?
