Any tips to avoid going all the way to Tana?

What I see from the map, I could get to Fianarantsoa or Ivato and there take a transport to Morondava?

Anyone been doing this? Frankly I have enough of long trips after 26 hrs in Cottise.

I think (memory hazy on this one) that there used to be a connection Tulear. Morondava - Tana but that was years back and with the current fleet size (2?) I doubt if it still in operation. As for 26 hours I am assuming Tana to Tulear (actually pretty good for that route!) going back it's going to be even longer and more uncomfortable, especially to Morondava. I went last year and it was 18 hours tana to Morondava. Just fly mate. I know prices are just stupid but overland is just a world of hurt.

BTW, how was Tulear?

You book Cotisse Tulear-Tana and get off in Finarantsoa. Stay there over night. Then book Soatrans or Cotisse to Antsirabe. Get off in Antsirabe. Stay another night and book any transport to Morondava. There is a pick up spot for Cotisse. But you have to pay all the way Tana-Morondava. That's the only sensible route over land. Unless 4 x4 from Toliara or Taxi Brousse as far as Morombe. And then by boat (boutre) from Morombe to Morondava. Adventure. LOL.

Or the easy expensive route. Flight Tulear-Tana. Then flight Tana-Morondava. Flights to Morondava are full most of times and expensive because of all the lemur tourists visiting the alle de baobab. Flights should be back to normal almost. 2 ATR72 are serviceable and one Q400 from sorry l south Africa on wet lease. 2 more ATRs should come on stream in the next months. Flight prices are back to normal.

She's in her early 20. First meeting we met at coconut stand, there was some benches behind. She brought a friend, I bought coconut for each. Anyway I'm in Tana now, been 3 days in Fianarantsoa. Got a dirt bike there and been driving around since morning till evening every day. Very beautiful surroundings!

City itself nothing special but very safe, been walking at night without any problems. Did not see any nightlife, too tired for it, but from second day I had fun with a hotel owner.

But it is not the norm. Certain not in Tana, nor in Tamatave or Tulear, where you will easy face a drama in the morning after wich spoils it all. It is the old question again either you fix or not fixe a price in advance. Or you get a good feeling of her motive. Daytime approach the many students and at night check the area around Novel Pub, Rue Pasteur.

And if you stay at hotel Vannie, just ask the friendly receptionist and you never need to sleep alone.
