So, what are the few good places?[/QUOTE]Hahaha I was just pulling your leg. I'm not sure about the current hottest scene's, it's been about a year since I've been to Havana. But I would recommend concentrating on the Vedado area, it's been a great area for me.

I would try the restaurant El Tablazo in evening around Sunset, the girls will come out of the woodwork. Another good place is just down the street (Calle 1 ra) toward the Cahiba Hotel, it's an outdoor bar behind a 20 story apartment building, (which is a good place to stay), right across from the Super Mercado on the corner where all the Taxi drivers are and their Classic Cars. The Bar is situated in behind the 20 story apartment building right on the Malecon, the Chica's hanging out there all night long. Google Earth coordinates - 23° 8'29.06"N 82°24'7.08"W

Havana is great for what it is great for and truly terrible on the other hand. The chica game used to be simpler. That was almost 20 years ago I am talking about.

Now it is OK, but a pain in the ass for many reasons.

I know Tablazo, I agree it it is an OK spot, especially for evening and even sometimes during the day.

I need to go to Havana in the summer and hit the beach. Something must be out there that, even if it is not as high quality as what we experienced there in the 90's and early 2000's, is better than the somewhat budrrensme sceneright now. And it's too bad because Cuban ladies are gorgeous. A bit cold, which is understandable given the lifestyle and Cuban men, but gorgeous. Some of them are, the true jineteras, are truly jaded. They ruin the whole thing if you mess up and end up giving one of them access to you.

LOL, exactly! That's the catch. If you find what you are looking for, it can be as good as anything, anybody, anywhere. It's just that the game itself is sort of rigged in the wrong ways in Cuba compared to more free and more capitalistic places such as Brazil / Colombia, to name two of many.

But yeah, LOL, I love the link. And I get your point 100 percent. It's a wise and fair one. Perseverance, even if the game can be a bother at times, pays off.

As I plan my trip, read the forum, etc, three questions I pose to the brotherhood:

1. Is the action / bar scene closer to the beach or old Havana? (I'm selecting my Airbnb based on this answer).

2. Dual Citizens: Has anyone bought an airline ticket from USA and then entered on your other citizenship passport? (I'the like the Cuba visa stamp in my Mexico passport, if I can, but will be booking my travel using my USA passport so I can use my TSA precheck (different names since my USA name doesn't have mother's maiden name but it's required in Latin American countries).

3. How are Halloween celebrations? Thinking of taking my costume which has been a hit on Halloween in ángeles city and Medellin!

Dan.[/QUOTE]Cuban authorities are already suspicious of foreigners so to have a two different names on you passport and travel itinerary could be problematic. Stay in the Vedado, la Rampa area or 23 avenida as its also called. Old Havana is cool in tourist mode but not many SW there. I stayed in old Havana several times and liked it but I had to walk to 23 avenida. BTW it's a 45 minute walk each way from old Havana to 23 avenida. Otherwise a taxi is 6-10 cuc depending on the time of day or night. The beach is Santa Marta but its a daytime only thing. Not sure about Halloween but think Cubans have enough problems (food shortages, electric outages, etc) to worry about spending money to dress up for an American holiday. Good luck.

At Mexidan, 1st question only: For bar / clubs the preference is Miramar followed by Vedado followed by Old Havana. No beaches if you mean East Havana to Guanabo.

Regarding your 3rd question Halloween is not celebrated in Cuba, as far as I know it's an USA thing.

On your 2nd question as long as your passport is valid Cuba customs will take either one, don't know for sure but maybe someone can chime in on this one.

On your 1st question I find it very convenient to stay in the Vedado section. This is located between Habana Vieja and Miramar. I would advise you NOT to stay in Miramar unless have a set of wheels.

Dan.[/QUOTE]First question. I would recommend the Vedado area, the closer to the Malecon, the better.

Second question. If you buy an airline ticket in the USA, you have to enter one of your Passport's information. If you use your USA Passport, then you will have to use that Passport for the entire trip, I wouldn't worry about you mother's maiden name if you use you USA Passport. Same goes for the Mexican Passport, if you buy your ticket using the Mexican Passport, then you have to stick with that one the entire trip, I wouldn't even worry about telling the Cuban immigration that you have dual citizenship, that would just complicate things. I would recommend using the USA Passport, no worries.

Third question. Like Mondo said, I don't think Cuba celebrates Halloween, so I wouldn't worry about packing a Halloween costume and dragging it to Cuba, instead, pack some chocolate sweet's and some American cigarettes for gifts, it keeps the Chica's coming back for more.

Viva El Vedado presents the history of the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado from the last quarter of the 19th century through the Cuban Revolution and highlights its varied and outstanding architecture. Known as a cultural center of Havana, Vedado is particularly notable for its unique collection of Cuban architecture of the 20th century. The film's goal is to introduce its audiences to the neighborhood's remarkable architecture, its vibrant life, and the need for preserving Vedado as part of Havana's heritage. It is a glimpse beyond tourist fantasies and stereotypes, a rare view of one of Havana's most important neighborhoods.

Viva El Vedado was made over two-and-a-half years by cinematographer and director Stanley Staniski and producer Mary Wilkie Ebrahimi who lived in El Vedado before the Revolution. The documentary features interviews with architectural historian Eduardo Luis Rodríguez and urban planner Secundino Fernández as well as with Gustavo López González, assistant director of the National Museum of Decorative Arts, located in El Vedado.

Secundino Fernández (MS, Columbia University) is award-winning architect, interior designer and urban planner. He was Professor of Architectural Design at the schools of Architecture at City College and Pratt Institute for fifteen years. His firm has been responsible for a wide variety of architectural interiors and planning projects from new buildings through expansions and renovations and for the interior design of some thirteen million square feet of space for private, corporate and institutional clients and various governmental agencies. Mr. Fernandez has won numerous awards and citations, including the First Prize and contract for the Maryland World War II Memorial in Annapolis, Maryland completed in 1997 and the second prize for the Downtown New London Redevelopment Project a year later. Prior to starting his own practice, Mr. Fernández was Chief Designer & Planning Coordinator for Gruen Associates with responsibilities of major international projects such as Fountainebleu Park West, Miami, Florida; Beirut II, Lebanon; and Union Centre, a redevelopment of the Canadian National railway yards in Toronto, Canada.

None of the girls wanted to register their names for fear of the Cuban authority. He wrote as I recall, registering your name was a requirement made by all casa owners. He was so frustrated and helpless!
