As far as the junkies in El Centro you just have to look right through them and give them 0 attention. Also like you mentioned you can get physical if need be, the local shop owners do it all the time and no one gives a fuck. From my experience the junkies are scared of you, I can see the fear in their eyes. They won't just flat out assault you in public even at night. I have spent countless hours in El Centro and no one has ever tried to assault me. If some junkie or homeless person is bothering you a lot just dip into a bar / restaurant / casino they won't be allowed in.

If you're not ready to throw hands or kicks or run at a moments notice Medellin is not the best place for a solo foreign traveler. Strolling around border towns in the evening in Mexico is a walk in the park compared to this city.

I'm not sure about ever returning, at least solo, outside of a need for a quick romp trip. The location is ideal if a US citizen is located near a major international transit hub into Latin America. For a quick trip you can stomp through several girls in short order and make a quick flight back home. Prices are unbeatable in most places across the world for the quality, to my knowledge and experience. It's not nearly as fun as any other known destination, including Tijuana, as it's difficult to enjoy with all the robberies and druggings going on.

If the security questions were adequately addressed the place could become a top destination. Staying in very nice hotels in a safe neighborhood still won't get you away from the violence as there were multiple shootings right outside the hotel during my stay. The girls are quite sweet, no big egos or bad attitudes, and many shapes and sizes to choose from. The normal people were quite friendly and docile. It is a land of stark contrasts and hope they figure it out. Very rarely do I leave a hotspot without some some longing to stay for more and withdrawals after getting back, but I have not longed for Medellin since heading to the airport. Only other place I felt somewhat similar was the Philippines but still enjoyed that place heavily to Colombia. Good news is if you can make it in Colombia you can supposedly make it anywhere in Latin America. I'm not sure how people put up with that shit and live in that type of environment. Most don't know anything different.[/QUOTE]I hate reading all of the reports in recent years about how dangerous things have allegedly become in Medellin. I used to spend a lot of time there, and overall it was my favorite big city in Colombia. At that time Botero Park was perfectly safe. It seems that these days one has to be looking over their shoulder even in Poblado! Too bad. I found Medellin to be a nice city with great weather inhabited by welcoming people and beautiful paisa girls.

So far all the ones I've contacted have told me they are indeed companions and would love to see me.

Do you trust rappi? Do they seal the bag of food and drinks like they do with door dash and uber eats here in the states? Like you said I would hate to get sick too.

Just like you said something can happen and cause her to change her mood, same thing can happen when you choose to negotiate. The more you negotiate the dryer she could become. From my experiences "outside" of medellin iv'e had no complaints and been happy with what I get, I'm not worried at all or feel I need luck in medellin. Not to mention I'm latino and speak fluent spanish. I'm just stating "typically" the more you pay the better quality of service you get and that's with anything you buy. Like I said for me it's been rewarding but to each his own.

I'm not knocking you in any way to each his own, Just wanted to point out to the other members of this forum that this is a perfect example of how not everyone can relate. I don't even have to guess what age group the OP is in because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be too far off but he mentioned quality with the above sessions which for him I'm sure he was being honest. But for me and other like minded individuals, the thought of paying a girl to sell her body to me for less than what it costs to buy a pizza would be very depressing for me and not be enjoyable (as of right now). Sounds like you spent your time in El Centro which is the arm pit of Medellin. How someone can generalize the entire city of Medellin from staying in that area is beyond me. I have been traveling to Medellin for the last 6 years. I go there alone every 2 to 3 months and stay several weeks or more at a time. I stay in Laureles at a 4 star hotel that offers everything I need at an economical price. I take long walks in the area (parque laureles) and never had an issue. I have friends that are expats living in the area that can tell you the same thing. None of which find the need to venture to the cesspool known as El Centro where you will run into the kind of trouble you described

I suppose some might be okay with gifts but I'm not looking to get into any arguments with an angry girl over $60-$80. I also did bring a few gifts which I gave away as a surprise to the best performers, both to reward them and because I'd be interested in seeing them in the future. There's been some discussion here about girls wanting money upfront sometimes; I didn't experience that. But maybe if you're staying in a less nice apartment that's more likely.

There's no one correct approach so everyone's welcome to approach this however they want. The reason I wasn't as direct in Colombia is there's a mix of pros and semi-pros and I wanted to be welcoming to both. Given it seemed to be about half and half between girls who brought up money, there clearly are plenty of girls who either prefer not to discuss it or think there are men who prefer not to. But I doubt there are a lot of semi-pros who clutch their pearls at men who are super direct.

My recollection was the bags and boxes had sticker seals from the restaurants but I'm not 100% certain. That wasn't something I was concerned with as I don't think there's much incentive for anyone to screw with the food. The restaurants want repeat business and if the food is tampered with Rappi has the info of the delivery people. But if you're concerned about that, it's easy to catch an Uber or inDriver to a nice restaurant.

Anyone knows a safe and girlfriendly hotel or apartment?

There are so many choices but its difficult to choose.

My requests:

- max $60 a night.

- safe / security.

- girlfriendly.

- Laureles.

- 3/4 star.

- some view will be nice (terrace not needed).

Also if anyone goes there in February / March / April, let me know. Would be nice to hit El Centro together to get some numero de telefonos.

I've wore out 2 pairs of shoes walking around Medellin. I'd guess I've covered more territory than most. Tourists have been assaulted and robbed, or drugged and robbed in Laureles and Poblado, as much or more than in El Centro.

Let's get it straight, El Centro is not for everyone, especially now when it's jam packed with shoppers. If large crowds bother you, or if seeing people sleeping on the street bothers you, you will be uncomfortable. There's a lot of noise and activity, which can be intimidating. There are always guys trying to get you into their store, restaurant or club. There are beggars and people selling everything. And mixed in are people who will pick your pockets if given the chance.

However, it's also vibrant, filled with normal, friendly people. It's the heart of the city and something everyone should experience. Afterwards you can run back to Laureles or Poblado, lock your doors, take a shower and make up stories about how brave you were to stick your hand into the jaws of death.

Certainly there are risks. Just last night I walked out of Grill Nueva Avenida and a guy with a tray of candy started bumping against me. He was trying to distract me so he could slip my phone from my front pocket. I caught him at it, stuffed my phone back and he backed up. No violence or threat to my life. Just a look of fear when I caught him and a look of relief when I didn't start yelling.
