General Info

I have quizzed more than a few taxi drivers as to how they operate.

A driver rents a taxi for 24 hours. The usual going price is 1200 pesos, but may be up or down a little depending on the condition of the vehicle.

Over a 24 hour shift, he will usually put about 800 pesos of gasoline in the tank. Total cost are 2, 000 pesos for 24 hours of operation. He will take a break of about 3 hours, while he sleeps in the cab, about 2 am. He hands the cab back at about 6 am. On average, his income from fares will be about 2300 pesos. So he could expect to make about 500 pesos in the 24 hour shift. Out of that, there is still enough money for him to screw one or two of his "girlfriends", usually SW. And the rest will go to the family.

So if you pay a driver 2, 000 pesos to drive you round Manila for 6 hours, then he is riding high; all of his expenses have been covered, and the remaining 18 hours of income are cream. If you pay him 2, 500 to take you from Manila airport to Angeles City, his fuel bill will be about 400 to 600 pesos, round trip. So again, he is making money for jam on these time consuming jobs.

He will sleep for the next day, that is he will hire a cab every second day.

The Peso acct comes with an ATM / VISA card, and the Dollar acct comes with a Bank Card. It took me about 45 mins to open these accts and walk away with the cards.

Amjek was asking whether he can comingle dollars and pesos in one account. Impossible. He can however, have separate dollar and peso accounts in his name.

How ever, on earth, could one have one account co-mingled with various currencies. I have tried and tried to imagine it, and my lateral thinking simply does not stretch that far.

In simple terms, and I suspect this is what Amjeck really wanted to know:

I have one account with HSBC.

When I log in to my account, my home page comes up with 3 separate sub-accounts listed there under my name along with the balance in my VISA card (which is issued as a link to my peso account).

Each sub-account has its own account number. Each number is very similar except for the last 3 digits which are consecutive. Each account also has its own ATM access card, although, of course, if ever I use any of the 3 cards to get cash, I always get pesos which is, I understand, a banking law fairly common in most countries, (although I do recall that for ATMs in Georgia (former Russian state) , there was a button that gave you the option of getting Georgian Lari or USD).

I can easily switch cash between any of these accounts if I desire. I use the peso account for all of my local transactions (because I live in Manila) , and so I can top it up from time to time with transferred funds from either the USD or AUD account, depending on the forex rate at the time.

Oh BTW - I can actually get the total balance of my cash assets at any one time by another e-transaction. This activity converts the value of all of my USD and AUD cash to pesos and adds it all together to give me a total peso value across all 3 accounts. Pretty useless to me but I guess the bank can use it to consider my total assets.

I hope that this clarifies the discussion for Amjeck and others.
