I think about making a call to the hotel for reservation when arriving Jakarta Airport. However, I finally decide against that idea because I probably don't need an extra worry after a long flight crossing the Pacific and roughly 24hrs, after boarding from LAX. So, the better way is always secure a room in Jakarta and I can get into the blue bird taxa with a valid address hotel especially this will be my first time ever in Jakarta. In Bangkok, with my knowdlege the landscape in there and I know quite a few hotels close to the happy zone, the No reservation can be done without much worry. But, it is definitely the same pratice with Jakarta, totally different culture. I already have a hotel in my minfd and I can book through Asia room or Agoda bookings with Not a problem and Do Not require Cash payment for deposit, they are happy to take the payments through Credit cards transactions. I still like to go Classic hotel, Malioboro for good times. I hear the Kingcross shows very good. So, I may be at Kingcross one night to check thing out and watch the dancers there.

Last week, it was still USD 25. Payable in cash. At CKG airport they do not have any credit card facilities for visa on arrival as yet.

Custom lines should be fine at that time of day. If any cues for the bluebird / silverbird taxi - the ISG 'go-up-to-departures' trick is much recommended. Takes about 5 mins to grab a taxi from there. Enjoy.

The short stay visa was abolished last year. It's now US$25 for any stay up to 30 days. The old $10-for-7-days visa no longer exists.

If you are coming in on AirAsia, you will arrive at terminal 3, and you won't have much choice for taxis. Terminal 3 is the Air Asia terminal, and not many other flights arrive there. Forget about the arrival / departure trick, both arrival and departure are right there. Just gut it out to your hotel. If you can get away with 150k IDR to about anywhere, take it.
