I dropped in to this MP today to see if it had changed from previous visits.

For those who don't know, the Vientiane Plaza Hotel MP is not in the main hotel building but in a separate place adjacent to the front entrance.

They now have a wall chart determining the prices.

60 min steam bath, jacuzzi and massage is 150,000 kip.

40 min steam bath and massage is 80,000 kip.

In the past I chose my therapist from a fishbowl, but today at 3 pm there were only 2 girls sitting in reception and I was assigned a tall attractive Viet from HCM City, who was much better looking than the other girl.

A quick update about the scene in Vientiane.

Things are very quiet here.

I have noted the complete absence of the girls / ladyboys on motorcycles who used to ride alongside you in the evening as you walk to or from your venue and offer massage or just try to get a conversation going. I always ignored them before as I figured it was a classic opportunity for a set-up but this visit there are absolutely none to be seen; I was told by a long-staying expat that it has all been "cleaned up" so that explained my observation. Not sure why the clean-up, or by whom.

Much more affluence apparent in the city too with groups of Lao citizens dining out in the excellent restaurants that have traditionally been the venue of expats and tourists. That's a change from previous visits. Still a heap of tourists and backpackers around too.

I have not had a chance to try the on-line sites but last time I looked they too were quite slim pickings. Even BPY is quiet. Certainly up to around 11.30 pm there has been little evidence of any FLs around. Drop Zone is also quiet.
