Rodriguinho, stay the hell out of Salvador if you think the "working girls are pretty ugly, 90% black blood..." And you say you are "biased" because you prefer blondes. Why did you go to Brazil? take your ass to northern Europe, we don't want to read your bullshit. Most of the African slaves brought into Brazil passed through the Bahia region, that's why the people are that racial mix.

Just got back from Brasil. Rio for 2 days and Salvadsor for 5. I am sick of these ignorant guys , some of whom are blatantly racist in their remarks, knocking Brasil for its abundance of beautiful brown and black women. First off. I am black. My family is from Jamaica and I grew up in the states. I had an excellent time in both cities. Met several girls and never payed for any program. I was courteous enough to pay for a couple of dinners and drinks and a nightclub . This much is to be expected even with women in the states. But my pockets were never hurting. Food and drink is high quality and low cost. I think you guys need to have an appreciation for the culture and try to learn a few respectful phrases in Portugese. If you go there looking and acting like a mark. You will probabably be treated as such. I roamed the streets of Barra and Pelihiorinio (spelled Incorrectly) after dark and NEVER had trouble meeting girls or just good people in General. There are many aggresive hustlers but if you leave yor Ted Koppell , Im white and desired attitude in Iowa, and just have fun here you will be okay. I can not wait to return.

Well said it and glad to hear you had great time. I hope I will track up there to see northeast part of Brazil someday in future. I may have a good chance of visit as my brazilian girlfriend in SP is from Bahia state.

I've seen a few postings lately by a couple of contributors who appear having narrower perspectives on topics we cover on this board. But I respect their thoughts and opinions which don't bother me at all though. Different style and approach towards enjoying life which we are all pursuing here right?

I could not agree more with what "curry" said. Salvador is the heart and soul of Brazil. Great music, food and very friendly girls. And not expensive at all, certainly not when compared with Rio. You haven't visited Brazil until you visit Salvador. J.G.

RioNut, that's not what was said, go back and read Rodriguino's post. He's an asshole who travels to a Brazilian city with a large black population, then says that the working girls are "pretty ugly" because of their "90% black blood'. That's racist, and if you refuse to see that fact, then you're part of the problem.

No one ever goes to Moscow and then says that the girls are ugly because they're white. No one ever goes to Taipei and then says that the girls are ugly because they're Asian. If someone doesn't like black women, then they should go to "white" countries only, and post in those forums. We don't want to read their shit. This is the Brazil forum, not the Racist forum.

On ugly black Brazilian chicks: Once again guys, I'm going to have to say that I agree with those here who proclaim it ridiculous and majorly hypocritical for anyone(especially non black) to travel to a city like Salvador, which has one of the largest black pops outside of Africa and complain about the women being ugly or too black. I mean, you might as well go to Lagos Nigeria and do likewise.

Having said the above, I actually think that it's a rather fascinating thing, because beauty or the lack thereof is primarily subjective and among the races you're going to find that most people are attracted to those who look like themselves and tend to view others as second rate. Sure it seems racist, but this is the reason that most white men aren't attracted to black women.

It goes both ways, because I'm sure that you're aware that in the black community in the states, most black men aren't attracted to white women and also view them as second rate. It's interesting to talk to young high school and college aged black men about what types of women they like, because you usually find that their concepts of beauty differ drastically from that of their white counterparts. Some that I've met have summed it up like this"white gals are typically pasty, facially plain looking, have ironing boards asses, no shape, and nothing special about themselves". Obviously to such men black women are the queens of their universe and white women are highly overated.

I do respect your opinion and understand where you're coming from though! Not that I'm an expert on the minority experience, but I gather that it's strikes a nerve when some of the guys here suggest that x women are ugly because of their racial background and if you notice it's only blacks who're offorded such labels. Not Asians, Indians, Arabs, Whites etc..

Out of curiosity, you mention that you were born in the states, but your folks are Jamaicans. Tell me something: Is that why you chose Salvador of all places to visit in Brazil? I mean, does the place seem more enticing for someone of African descent?

You are correct in staing that every group of people be it determined by race or region has their own perception of beauty. You are also correct in stationg that most black men do not find the average white woman attractive. In the same coin many white men find black women attractive and have sice ancient times. ie Rome vs Carthage, Rome vs Egypt, Italy vs Ethiopia, American Slavery and the products thereof. People are entitled to their beleifs. I have no problem with that. My problem lies with the ignorance of some of these guys. I am a high scool Social Studies teacher. I teach A lot of Geograqphy. But it doesnt take a genius to know that if have a preference for tall women with blue eyes and lighter skin that I might NOT want to go to the Phillipines. Do you understand what I'm saying ? I was in Rio Sao Paulo and Salvador. Plenty of women. plenty different complexions. All were , at least by my standards beautiful. That is another thing. In the black race we are many different hues. From bluberry dark to manila folder yellow. However, we simply determine rather we are attracted to someone based on our own criteria. This is why some of my white freinds blow it when they travel abroad. Not all of them but many presume they are preferred because they are white. NOT SO. Many of these people associate white skin with green pockets. Thay also have a superiority complex. That is until they get robbed or taken for their money by what they would consider to be "some stupid third world chick". As far as me going to Salvador well it was something i wanted to see just like any other city. Black people generally dont get excited about these things because there are certain universal applications to our diaspora. That is to say that for everyone I met in Salvador, I already knew someone like him or her back in the states.

I personaly find black women highly attractive and mostly they have firm bodies with great ass and nice tits.
Also the socalled "mullattas" are HOT as hell......
I don't care much for whites in Brasil. Mostly they have attitudes and are stuck up. MHO
In Salvador de Bahia about 90% of the people are black.
Period.
If you like Tall,white skin,blond,blue eyes and an attitude go to another country. (Sweden,Denmark,Holland,USA etc.etc.)

Concerning the race issue, it's crazy. We all want the same thing , but we do have our preferences. Generally speaking, it seems that If you are going for the opposite (White guy/black chik, black guy/white chick) then you have the advantage if you are a rarity in that region. What sucks is if you are not going for the opposite. Been reading up on this board for a while and Salvador seems to be the only place where Black guys have an advantage with the local Black - mulatto ladies. But even this seems up for debate. Some of you white guys don't know how good you 've got it - or maybe you do!

All points are well taken on noble opinions on race.

Let's drop this race topic now, which has been drawn unnecessary attention more than it deserves.

I've noticed a few relatively new members, you know who you are, who have tendency to list postings that have no-value to anyone on this board. If you have no value-added information, simply don't bother to waste Jackson's storage space and other's time through distraction.

I've been immensely benefited from the WSG for what I enjoy to do while traveling, and there are many many thousands more out there. Let's keep focus on how we maximize our fun through sharing best practice and information.

Lastly, I don't give fly f**k about everyone's right and entitlement of one's opinion on this board if it is irrelevant to seek or provide information designed for this board. Take it to the board made for it, or go and talk to your psychiatrist. He or she will listen to you for a small fee.

The postings you refer to were not 'noble opinions on race', but reactions to the offensive 6-15-03 post. Maybe they have gone on a little too long, but they were justified. You should be criticizing the original racist post - not those that responded to it.

What IS wasting the most space on these forums is all the "Hey, let's meet at so-and-so" and "It was great having a drink with you" posts. That stuff should be backchanneled, in my opinion.

Well, if I can try to shift gears here, I am going to Brazil for my first time next month, and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good length of time to spend in Salvadore. I was told four or five days. Too much? Not enough? There's good information here about the mongering scene there, but not much on hotels. Any recommendations?

Hunt down my old post on Salvador. Hotels are a no-brainer -- something in Pelhourinho (sp?). There're all about the same. The sex scene in Salvador (to me) was the worst I've scene in Brasil for a city of that size. BAD. If you're into the tourist thingy -- give Salvador 3 days. If not, and just want to see it, 2 days.
