She hung around because there were no REAL customers in sight, she was bored, and had at least some small hope of extracting money from you (which she did - nothing wrong in buying her a drink and giving her taxi fare). The flirting just showed her that there was some small potential of convincing you that you should buy. You were both just killing time.

Thanks for the somewhat sobering advice, sadly I think I will eventually end up like the rest of you one day (no offence/rudeness meant by that). Its only a matter of time before I do it. If I was completely honest with myself, it feels like I'm just fighting a battle that I want to lose if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, what you said was dead on. Its probably all the stuff I should have thought while I was there but probably 'chose' to ignore. Very sobering and true indeed.

I'll be flying to Manila with Etihad Airways in a couple of weeks. Since I was passing through Abu Dhabi, I figured I might as well spend a few days there and get my first ever mongering experience in an Arab country.

The first thing I need is a well-located hotel that isn't too expensive. The International Rotana Inn Hotel (Hamdan St) seems to fit the bill. Anybody ever stayed there? Girl-friendly?

The Al Diar Dana Hotel (definitely girl-friendly) is another option, but their room rates aren't displayed on any of the reservation sites. Can anyone enlighten me?

Finally, should I book a more expensive double room if I plan to have as many female visitors as my dick and wallet can handle?

While I live here I do know a few things re the hotels from experience (don't ask), from helping other mongers and from teh WGs who tell me. So this is my take:

Most hotels GF except Le Meridien (the old one).

If you want reasonably priced hotels try Novotel (Centre Hotel) on Hamdan St, Al Maha Rotana Suites. Both around 500++ and very GF - Miss N has shagged in both as well as other hotels in AD and she reports very GF. More expensive hotel try Beach Rotana, very nice, very GF nice rooms (Miss N is great as a field reproter ;))

Crowne Plaza on Hamdan also great, very GF, nice hotel - Piper was there a while back, go back through AD forum and you will see his and my comments about avoiding the escalator.

Dana is fine, with 49ers on the top floor but Miss N says she does not like the rooms (well she should know :)).

You could try the Al Ain Palace Hotel - Ally Pally on ground floor - but I have no knowledge of this one nor do my WG contacts.

All the above are close to Blitz, 49ers, Gauloises, Ally Pally and other cultural sights

Other than that there is Saba Hotel but you may want to sleep in your clothes but it is very cheap.

Most hotels will give you a double bed Loso, unless you like twin beds....

PM if you are in town as I may be there, Miss N will not be, she is off to Manila very soon for a couple of weeks R & R (rest etc mongers not Rogering & Rogering), though I am in Manila in August too ;)

In the end, I decided to stay at the Al Maha Rotana Suites: 350 AED++ = 406 AED for a superior room with a king size bed.

The International Rotana Inn was the runner-up. It was cheaper, but:
- Paying 225 AED++ for 1 person, I may have ended up in a single room.
- Paying 275 AED++ for 2 people, I may have ended up in a twin room.
The room type is assigned on arrival at these promotional rates.

I also got feedback from the Al Diar Dana Hotel. They only had Junior Suites available, at 500 AED net.

I’ll be arriving in Abu Dhabi on August 10 (ETA 8 PM) and will be leaving on August 14 (1.25 AM). I only made hotel reservations for 3 days. If I find some pussy the final afternoon or evening, I can go to a cheap hotel. Otherwise, I won’t need a room since I’ll be heading for the airport around 11PM.

You are the exception that proves the rule. Actually, I think Bravo was talking about getting involved in the scene at all.

While I have met some stellar people, I have also seen and heard heartbreaking scenarios, gotten too involved (one on my part, two on theirs) and spent a fair chunck of change on this "hobby" as well as having the displeasure of meeting some real scumbags.

You take the good with the bad I guess, but this is not something for everyone.

How are things? I presume well.

I liked Bravo's comments, and his advice would apply to many, but I have to say I still like the hobby, despite a few mishaps along the way (eg, having my camera and phone dipped in water, being karate-kicked in the chest by a drunken crazy WG flying through the air like a female Bruce Lee, waking up to find that a WG had used my hotel phone to "phone home" for 600DH, meeting shady characters in dark streets at 4am to pay a couple of fave WGs out of jail, etc). Um, apart from that, good fun.

As for getting "involved" with WGs, most know that I'm happily married, and I no longer take regulars, so that basically prevents getting carried away with the illusion, from both sides.

BIG difference between "should I take her tonight?" and "should I?". The former is a decision you do make in a bar, the latter a decision you make at home. Because once you go out to "look" in an indecisive state, sometime, somewhere, you WILL find someone that you will pull (or most guys will anyway). Just remember to remember it's just sex. Not to say you can't meet some very nice human beings; I have. Just remember what you have at home.

I don't condone those who make false promises (either side). But 1 night a week in a Potemkin Village works for both of us:

-she gets a "normal life" evening, even a chance to play at domesticity (her choice, most do: cook, clean, etc.); a [u]reasonable[/u] salary, not a great one; a safe environment, both punter and location (no LE knock to interrupt sleep); surprising how many complement me on the comfort of my bed. Most a-listers pass; the "step-downs" accept.

-me, I get a taste of the domestic life, somebody I don't have to start from zero with, each knows what the other enjoys.

Here's a cheaper alternative (600DH per week), and you get full-time "business wife" including sales skills. She would probably bring in more money than the salary offered. From a post on expatriates.com yesterday:

A quick FR from AD following my business ventures overseas, which was really too many long flights, too many overnighters and not much else.

Schedule keeps changing, so I got back to AD earlier than I had thought but then I have to leave again earlier as well (in the next 2 days!). Now I travel a lot my friends and I get very tired but still need distressing when I am back. I rarely play away as I am too busy, with colleagues and have you seen the prices in the UK!!!!

So I got back from a long 14 hour trip and before I disappeared again (2 days later from where I am writing this) I needed to see my favourite WG (Miss N naturally!). So I did and as she was leaving soon after (she has now left the UAE for 2-3 weeks mongers) I wanted at least one last session (LT) with her. She was leaving from Dubai and she was seeing another monger from the forum (see Dubai) so she was very happy when I called as she was not expecting to see me until she got back to Abu Dhabi.

Now, Tom S is back in the saddle so to speak. He is coming to AD tomorrow and as he and I have partied before, he called me and asked for some contacts (now I give him contacts as he is known to me, a friend and we have partied before).

He is looking for Miss J or Tinting - both previously rogered by me, Miss J normally in the Greek style.

As it is summer they may not be around so I check and both are but J is busy and as I know Tom likes the odd Greek style Filipina, I ask J what other friends she has (she has 4-5 girls basically).

So to help my good friend Tom, I have to meet all the ladies tonight and decide which one I should chose for him.
