I have spent some time on Lombok. According to RTF and other background research reports were scarce and views divergent. I can now confirm that Lombok is not a good mongering destination. There is some action in the Senggigi resort area and on the road from Senggigi towards the capital Mataram, but there is not much, prices are high, service is lacklustre, and hygiene (both rooms and girls) is often not good. Some of the more upbeat reports are from people who were with their wives or other impediments and just saw the shop fronts. Judging from them I agree it looks promising. Lots of signs for karaoke, massage, night club etc. One place will have signs saying that it offers both "Karaoke, rooms, entertainment". In the center of Senggigi, if you can call it a center, there is even what looks like a little red light district. However, this is all misleading. Many places are actually strictly karaoke or massage only, some refuse anything but straight massage, a few will do handjob, but at exorbitant prices etc. Nightlife I dominated by Australian families, young European couples, various backpackers. So the Senggigi area achieves the strange feat of looking seedy without being seedy. And the beach sucks.

If you end up there anyway, I recommend Dina's massage in the corner of Senggigi Plaza and Loligo a few km out of Senggigi towards Mataram. Although I had to spend much time looking and pay high fees, 1 million and 1. 5 million for an hour respectively, I had some memorable experiences there. Both places I had young girls around 20 with nice slim bodies. Both had those wonderful SEA genetics with almost no pubic hair, both gave lousy starfish service but in a way that was more like uninformed than negative.

It's almost non existent, and that main road is certainly very forgettable with fairly overpriced restaraunts entirely set up for foreigners. Both were the only reason that I didn't stay beyond a couple of days, which is a shame because I was having a great time with a young sweetie working at one of the Senggigi plaza massage joints in the main plaza called Eka's Spa, who's tight little snatch I absolutely flooded bareback a couple of times during my stay there. From what I remember of subsequent reports though, new ownership and renaming of those massage joints happens a lot, so I doubt it is Eka's spa now. Lombok being more conservatively Muslim, I had infact been surprised to find any FS on the island at all so I was happy. The rest of the island is for adventure / eco tourism really, such as Gunung Rinjani hikes and surfers. Sanur back on Bali is the spot, but to bust a load while on a quite conservative island the joints in Senggigi plaza are probably better than nothing. I remember my report at the time mentioned doing reconnaissance of locations mentioned in reports around 2011, and one of these had been shut down by the pressure from mosque authorities or women's groups. The people in Lombok probably don't want this sort of thing becoming widespread on Lombok, and that is fair enough. It appears to be contained on Senggigi, so we should be happy with that option.

I've read their guides from the late 70's, early 80's and mid 80's and the kind of reviewers they employed back then were risk takers, adventurous law dodgers.

The guides will always remain somewhat useful for logistics, but their moralizing politically correct tone gets tiresome even if occasionally they have a point.

Good analysis Guys. I won't bother with Senggigi. Lombak since the beach is no good. I like Bali (Ubud) and have visited that island several times, but for other reasons than P4 P. Jakarta is where I go to meet great Indonesian girls. The Raja Ampat off West Papua is a spectacular dive location, but not easy to get to.
