The place at the airport tried to charge me 95 soles ($27) for 2 GB of data over 4 days. I thought the price was. 80 soles plus a 15 sole activation fee - 15.8 soles. Fortunately, I caught my error in time and canceled the transaction but I was still charged the 15 sol activation fee. My T-Mobile international roaming has worked perfectly here in Lima with no issues. They also have Claro here, but you need to get Claro Peru. Claro Colombia will not work. I imagine the cost of Claro Peru would be very reasonable, but with my T-Mobile working fine I don't have a need for it.

Weather: The weather is cool, but not cold. The high is around 68 degrees F / 21 degrees see in the day and the low is around 58 degrees F / 14 degrees see at night. One thing I would recommend for everyone before you come: chapstick. I was here for less than 24 hours before my lips started to crack. The air is very cool and dry here. It is autumn in Peru right now. I did not see the sun today and I am told that is the norm. Very cloudy but dry.

Altitude: Sea level. Lima is right on the coast. Finally a mongering city that doesn't require an acclimation period AND isn't unbearably hot & humid! Gracias por Dios!

Population: Massive. More than 15 million people live in the greater Lima area. It is the 3rd largest city in Latin America. Before I stepped on plane yesterday, I thought Lima was a sleepy little hamlet. Why are there no direct flights to or from this enormous city?

Transportation: The Uber fare from the airport to the place that most tourists apparently go (Miraflores) is high. Like 50 or 60 soles. I was not going to pay that. I was accosted by the usual aggressive taxi cab drivers trying to take me there for high prices. I intentionally lowballed them to get them away from me when they wouldn't take no gracias for an answer (I offered 10 soles). I then walked to the bus stop just trying to get out of the airport and to a place where the Uber fare would be lower. Couldn't figure out how to get on the bus at 11 pm at night. So I just rolled my suitcase outside the airport and started walking down the sidewalk along the road that runs in front of the airport (Avenue Elmer Faucett). I went about 30 meters down the sidewalk and checked Uber. Suddenly the fare had dropped to 28 soles because my pickup location was no longer in the airport. Before I could accept, a cab driver pulled up in front of me and I asked him if he could match the Uber quote of 28 soles. He did and soon I was at my hotel.

I did not go out last night. I was exhausted so I got a full night of sleep in a very comfortable bed at the Del Prado Hotel. I would recommend the hotel except 1) it was noisy with traffic in the morning, 2) the water temp in the shower was very difficult to adjust and 3) it did not seem chica friendly at all based on how polite and courteous the staff were. I would not do the walk of shame in front of those nice people even if they allowed it. Cost was $55 USD. Very close to the high end clubs.

My current hotel is Aku Hotel. I love it here. Cost is $37 USD and honestly I could not ask for a better, cleaner, more modern or more convenient accomodation. The best currency exchange rate offered at the airport was 3. 22 soles per dollar. One offered 3. 11 soles. The "official" rate yesterday was 3. 78. I know the exchange has to make money, but I was hoping to get closer to the official rate. I would have gladly accepted 3. 5. Well I found the solution. CAPITAL EXCHANGE at Avenida Canaval why Moreyra 233! There they gave me 3. 75 soles for every one of my dollars! With ZERO FEES! By the end of the day today, the rate had dropped to 3. 74, so they actually paid me above market rate. I gave them two crisp 100 dollar bills and they gave me 750 soles and a receipt. My only regret is that I didn't exchange more!

Prices: Very cheap. Especially compared to Colombia. You can get a very nice meal here for 60 soles ($16) and a good meal for 30 soles ($8). In Medellíand or Cartagena, a good meal will be at least 60 k pesos ($15) and a very nice meal will be 100 k pesos ($25). And so far, the food has been better here.

Traffic: Unimaginably Awful. The main drawback so far of Lima is the traffic. The traffic here makes Bangkok seem like Montpelier on a Sunday afternoon. It is gridlock at virtually all hours of the day in many parts of the city. Nonstop honking. Difficult to cross the street. Getting from one side of the city to the other takes forever by car or bus. I have never seen a city more badly in need of a subway or light rail system. If one exists here, it has eluded me.

Fortunately, the sidewalks are high quality, the weather is good, and the city is flat. So if you are like me and you like to walk, getting around on foot is very easy.

Safety: The parts of the city I have visited, including LOS Olivos, are absurdly safe. I am talking South Korea level safe. Maybe it's because I am used to biding time in Santa Fe, Bogota, but I have never felt safer in any Latin American city. My main worry is trying to make the locals feel safe around me.

Overall, Lima is the closest thing to a first-world city I have seen in Latin America. A little more modern than Bogota. However, most parts are very dirty. It's like New Orleans or San Francisco in the winter. But still a very first-world feel to it.

People: Peruvians are extremely nice and they speak Spanish slowly, so I can understand many of them very well. Night and day to Bogota. The people here are friendly but also seem a little shy and conservative. I have not had one single person ask me for money, and I walked a lot of places today.

Women: I read the reports saying Peruvian women are ugly. And they ain't lying. It's bad here. Real bad. Maybe one out of eight Peruvian women 18-44 is even fuckable, I am talking above a 3. Most of them have very indigenous facial features, dad bods, dress conservatively and many wear glasses. Not a pretty sight at all.

But far from being a turn off, this situation is actually quite endearing. Because it is obvious that the men in Lima love their ugly women. My girl kept telling me she could do it for me. So evidently these places that advertise recargas buy a lot of credit from the phone companies then just transfer it when you buy it from them. So in actuality anybody can transfer the credit they have in their phone to another person. I guess the guys at the airport are doing this, but marking it up extremely high in the process.

It allows you to take out 700 soles at a time and the fee is 22 soles.

I know the struggle with the Claro SIM. Yesterday I stopped by the big Claro store on Las Begonias to get a SIM, but it was full of people and I was told the wait time would be at least 30 minutes. I also stopped by a convenience store, but they said only the main store can issue a new Claro Peru SIM, they just recharge. Thanks for the info, 10 soles is exactly what I was hoping to pay. My T-Mobile is still working fine but I want to get a SIM before I leave here for next time.

In Colombia, I always recharge my Claro at a little shop at the airport. I assume they have a place at the Lima airport that can do that as well. Interestingly, I know of a couple of convenience stores in the US that can recharge Claro for the same price as in Colombia, but it only makes sense to use them right before the trip and it's just as easy to do it at the airport.

LOL, no I was not the black guy you saw in Lince. I am a big white dude. If you saw a white gringo walking around Lince the past two nights, there is a high chance it was me!

I have not had any problems with Ubers here so far. Very friendly drivers and they take me to the most remote locations of the city in the dead of night without hesitation. Of course, they all warn me to be careful, because everyone here seems paranoid of crime. Guys like us who have been to some of the rougher places in Colombia feel perfectly at ease here at any hour. But hearing that your friend had their phone snatched, I will definitely be a little more on guard.

I do feel bad for the Uber drivers, though. What a terrible place to have to drive a car for a living!

You probably will not use them or even see them being a tourist. Bicycles are widely used in Lima. As far as lanes for them, some places have paths but most don't.

Was my first time solo traveling, stayed in a airbnb in Miraflores. Did some preplanning with Glambu. I saw around 50+ women on this 17 night trip and blew my budget / got robbed a couple times. I shall explain:

Glambu: Damage was 200-300 for a couple of hours for most of the girls. Often don't look as good as the pictures. Wasnt worth all the time I spent on the app and chatting with them. For the first week I was doing mostly Glambu dates and going to Lince at night.

Lince: Was a bit disappointed here, kept hearing the better talent was here but seemed the same as other spots but more expensive. 150 for half hour and 250-300 for the hour. I think I screwed up paying beforehand, had a couple girls bullshit me on time. Also 1 night was in a motel with chick and heard gun shots nearby at 3 am.

Paid one girl the hour and she fkn left after 10 minutes because she said I was drunk and couldn't get it up, and was touching her navel which isn't part of her 'normal servicio'. I grabbed her for a second I was so pissed, but let her go as I knew it wouldn't end well.

Suites de Barranco:

Here's the first time I got robbed. First Saturday night there, have a Tinder date with normal chick andgo clubbing around Miraflores. I got a bit too drunk and things don't go well, she leaves and I get in a random taxi and tell him take me to Lince. He tells me all this crap about its not safe and I know a better place, I'm like alright bet. Show up to Suites which I'the read a little about before my trip. I was drunk so really don't even know how much cash I had on me or what I spent. All I remember is theyre charging me 600 for the room alone and I know that's BS. No idea what I paid for the girl or champagne for the hours we spent in there, then she brings her friend in the room eventually. I'the also given them my credit card and thank god my bank blocked the transctions because the next morning I see they tried charging me $350 and $700. Eventually cab comes in and saves the day, we leave and he tells me all those prices were BS. No shit. Still horny and its about 4 am so we go to another nightclub called 'EROS' or La Oficina. This place was filled with like 40 girls 6-8's. I pick one and we pay the exit fee, think it was 800 for her. Go to a nearby motel and I'm exhausted at like 7 am afterwards. My first fuckup but not the last.

I returned to EROS another night and sessioned with a thick morena in house this time. 800 total damage, think they BS me on time like 15 minutes.

Mall de Sur / LOS Lirios:

Showed up the first time here on Mother's Day, not many girls out. Picked up an average Vennie and her friend looked tasty as we're paying for the room, so I have her send her friend after I am done with her. 100 for the medio and 200 the hour. Then Take 1 more Vennie before I call it a night.

I returned about a week later and repeat to do a trio with 2 of them for a few hours. Werent many girls walking this night either and the vennies told me its because of the police.

Centro / Zepitas /2 de Mayo:

Had a love / hate thing with Centro. Didn't show up here until about 9 days into my trip, but then I was showing up daily. Fell for a morena Ecuatoriana who I spent many hours with throughout the days there. Her name was Melissa and she was my Pocahontas. She had me trapped for hours and I couldn't see the other talent lmao. 200 the hour CFS. Also did the ratito with many of her friends for 50 and 20 the room. Hotel Anubis is decent, the rest if the motels are shit around there, but I didn't care. Would eat at a restaurant literally next to the action and get drunk off 24 oz beers for 15 soles. I would stay until 11 pm sometimes and it was okay as long as the police were around. Several nights I was there the police came to raid and arrest the girls. One time I was eating dinner with 2 chicks when the cops showed up and they hid in the bathroom. The cop checked my ID and searched my backpack but then left me alone.

Plaza Norte:

Went here once, seemed sketchier than the other areas. 50 and 20 the room for ratito, 200 for the hour. Sessioned about 6 chicas around here, mostly 6's and 7's.

Megaplaza: That same day, decide to checkout Megaplaza nearby. Maybe better selection than the other zones but not by much, do with a girl and FK up again by paying beforehand. She bullshits me by 20 minutes, and then I go with 1 other. Was a better experience. Police were out patroling and it was 8 pm.

Geishas academy:

Escort site. Met a lovely pale Vennie named Monica, her rate was $220 for 2 hours, had to be 2 hours minimum. Was worth every second even though it was CFS. Took her for sushi after the 2 hours and then 1 more hour of fucking after.

Repeated one more time with her on another day.

Shouldve hit the chongos earlier, as I waited til the 2nd week but they were better than Lince. Hotties on the stage, beers for 15. Sessioned with about 5 hotties that night. End of the night get scammed again, give a girl 150 so she comes to my place after closing time and she ghosts me.

Returned again on busier night, still fun.

Suites bonus scam:

Just when I thought that shit was over, get the girl's friend from Suites texting me one night and I mistake her for someone else. So she says she coming with a friend for 300, I'm like okay its 4 am and sounds like a deal. Then I see its her from Suites and am like aw fuck, but let them in. Then she tells me its 300 dollars for 2 hours with just her friend. I was geeking on Adderall and didn't want problem trying to kick them out this upscale apartment building, so pay it even though it was complete BS and they left after like 1 hour.

Sirenitas:

Love / hate here as well, showed up about halfway through my trip a then was coming nightly. Here was where I fucked up the most eventually though.

Lovely ladies here, better on the slow weeknights. The weekend the hot girls are busy in the rooms and its hard to get to them. The girls recognized me and I'the repeat with them. One of them was a Vennie named Samy, though she lied and said she's from Ecuador. Kept asking me to order drinks to the room, I obliged but she was pushy. But I liked her and saw her every night.

So 2 days before I'm leaving Lima, I have the great idea to drink a bottle of vodka with my favorita from Centro during the day and hit up Sirenitas at night. We spend hours in the motel and She keeps serving me and I got the drunkest I been on this trip, but still want to stick to the plan. So I'm with the centro girl and her Taxi friend takes us to buy weed, smoke the joint in the car. Bad idea. Get dizzy from the combo and throw up when the guy pulls over to try to find coke. He can't find it and that sealed my fate because I'm kinda out of it this point and dozing off. But they drop me off at Sirenitas and I proceed. Samy and her friend Alejandra find me and say wtf is wrong with you? I tell them I'm fucked up and she says I can sleep in her room, even at that moment I knew something wasnt right. But I was so dizzy so I went and passed out on her chongo bed. Wake up about 2 hours later with 3000 soles missing from my wallet and I leave sirenitas. I'm stubborn so hit the ATM and go to Geishas.

My last day I see Melissa and tell her what happened, and she still asks for 150 I'the promised her for her nails. At night I go to Sirenitas even though my plane leaving at noon the next morning. Have fun but I see Samy and she has the audacity to ask me to go with her again. Tell her no and then have a couple sessions.

And then I got scammed one more time for good measure by some other lady. Everyone in the chongo is listening to some band and I'm like the hell is going on? But see a girl I want and tell her lets go to the room but she says we can't because this damn band is playing. So I'll buy her a drink. But then her 2 friends pop out of thin air and they order this 12 pack bucket of beers for 250 and we go to this VIP by the stage. I'm watching the show then notice these bitches are pouring the beers into the bucket. I get pissed and say wtf are you doing. They play dumb and I say I gota pee to get away from them, then the girl I liked is like you won't buy me a drink? Say fuck no then she says "Chucha tu madre".

At this point I'm in a bad mood and see Samy across the bar and mean mug her. She and her friends notice and laughing at me, she's blowing me kisses. Then she starts flicking me off while smiling at me. I go with her friends to make her jealous, and she still tries to talk to me right around closing time. I tell her I know what you did, and I was always nice and generous with you. I leave around 5 am and go the airbnb to clean and pack. The problem is I'm drunk and haven't slept in like 24 hours, so do a shitty job cleaning and that ended up costlng me, yay more bullshit fees!

A couple days later the Airbnb host charges me fkn $450 because I broke the rule smoking weed in his place and left ashes stain on the couch, and didn't clean well. I shit you not I lost like $3 k on bullshit this trip and otherwise overspent ny budget by a few thousand. Going to need a side job for this next trip, and to learn from my idiotic deeds.
