Basically, any store you see that has sign of Tigo, Claro will have a sim (usually 5000 peso) + recagar (recharge) for 20-40 mil depends on how many days you want.

As far as exchange cash, I use ATM for best conversion and convenient. Your bank might charge you ATM fee 5-10 usd or whatever, MAKE SURE you decline conversion rate (high mark up from ATM).

I don't see there is a big issue leaving your luggage at the Mansion and venture out. If you are concern about that then you can buy a small TSA lock to lock your luggage, it's cheap on amazon.

I agree there should be no problem with dropping luggage at the desk. There are several currency exchange places at Oviedo mall, 5 minutes walk away.

So just doing the research online here are some answers. First if you have a newer phone it has esim capabilities, I've used it in Mexico. What's nice about it is, there is no changing or a card, you can have it ready to work as soon as you land, it will connect to the local network and there are different packages you can choose from, Also no need to register it with your passport locally. I think the drawback is you can't actually makes calls its only data driven but you can still use WhatsApp, facebook, instagram. Thats what I will be doing when I arrive when I'm out and about. When at my airbnb wifi is king.

I know its been talked about but the best exchange rate is an ATM, If you don't have a card though that picks up the ATM fees then it may add up in the long run. I know my bank can order currency but their exchange rate sucked. You maybe be able to find a currency exchange place (San Francisco is suppose to have one) but you might get charged a fee to do it. ATM the best way to go though.

I had a flight to and from MDE, but it was cancelled. I went to their website and they have no flights out of MDE after the first week.

New Life is in Centro, whereas Energy is in Estadio area. But the point is valid, with proper address one can find these. Taxi drivers can anyway. Most of the time. On foot it is a challenge until you learn the address system, which has been covered on this forum in the past. And if you are looking for business sign or something to tell you that you are at the right place. Don't bother. Almost without exception these places have nothing to indicate you are at the right place, other than a buzzer, or door you can open and a buzzer inside to go through the next door.

As of last month when I hunted for airfare, Mexico's Viva Aerobus had same disclaimer for MEX-MDE "This route is suspended until further notice" but their MEX-BOG was still available. May have to infiltrate via Bogota then take a bus / plane to get to Medellin.

SIM card:

There used to be a place similar to a bookstore or something on the second floor that you can get SIM card in the airport . You have to ask because it may not be on display. You can kill sometime while trying to find it but I don't know if it is still there.

Once you are in the city, if it is still early and you want to kill some time. Go to Botero Plaza to sightseeing. There is a WOM store by the white church Veracruz. They usually have staff that can speak English. You can pay 20 mil for 30 days or whatever days you need for less cost, but you need to have your passport with you. This will register your phone in their system so it won't be locked after 30 days. The official stores like this are more like full service and stores of this provider usually are less busy. The other providers often have longer lines I think because they offer more services

There is a cafe that is part of the museum. You can order something and sit on the patio to people watch if you have time to kill.

There are many neighborhood stores that sell SIM. These are like the airport one, and they may be able to help you setup SIM card and put data in your SIM.

Then there are street vendors. Yo can only buy SIM which is normally 5 mil but you can get it for 3 mil in some places. You need to go to GANA to show your phone number and name of the provider to put data on the phone. I think the least expensive plan is 5 mil. GANA is everywhere so you won't miss it.

Inflation has certainly caused Airbnb and hotel pricing to go up. The thing that gets to me is that its not 5 to 10%, a good number of Airbnb apartments are now priced 20 to 30% higher. This is especially true if its a new project or building. Most of the really good one bedroom or studios are no less than 80 a night, similar ones were 50 a night last year. I think someone mentioned Jan 1 being the time when govt allowed businesses to reprice their offerings. A number of apartments in primero park Laureles, Belen, Manila, Poblado and conquistadores neighborhoods are up at least 15%.
