Travel Details and Photos for Verification.
Few details about my trip that will be helpful to others, who are going to Bogota for the first time. However, I have attached of few photos of my travel documents for the sake of credibility.
I took AeroMexico from DFW to BOG via MEX. I got a great fare on a normally busy weekend (Labor Day) from a consolidator called Flyright. I am dubious of such consolidators but, I saw they got very high ratings and took a chance. Sure enough, I was given my reservation number which I could use to access my reservation on the AeroMexico app in less than a day.
That said, I had always wondered why Mexico City was never a hub for travel to South America. Well, I got my answer. MEX is simply not capable of handling transfer flights properly. Aside from being overcrowded with planes, the terminal facilities simply aren't set up to handle simple transfers for international flights. What that means is that you must go through immigration and customs and submit a completed immigration form when you arrive. Yes, you read that correctly. You must go through customs and immigration even if you are just making a connection to another nation. Then you must go through security screening again to get to the international departures. While an additional screening is normal in overseas airports when making a direct connection, at least they do it efficiently in most places. In Mexico City its a mess. They simply are not set up for it. While I never encountered the long lines in MEX, the process was slow and low-tech. That's why you can never make a short connection in MEX. Once past security the waiting area and selection of shops was good. Then even had a 24-hour bar and restaurant at one end of the international terminal. But on both ends, AeroMexico changed the gate while I was waiting and I had to move from one side of the terminal to the other. That said, I don't recommend making a connection in MEX unless it just happens to be a cheap flight (which mine was). And as for AeroMexico, its not a bad airline, but its not a good one either.
Arrival in BOG involved quite a trot to immigration though that is the case with most large international airport. Going through customs took awhile though the line was not long. The screening process is more rigorous than any place I have been to, and this time the immigration officer had more questions than my last trip to Medellin. On the return trip, the lines were very long at immigration and it took over 35 minutes to clear that obstacle. Fortunately, getting my carry-on and my body through the security screening was a snap and the screeners were courteous. But, be warned that getting through immigration can take a while so plan for it on your flight out of the country.
Now for the verification matters. There is unfortunately, a lot of fiction getting posted on all of these forums. If someone spends much of their time posting anything but a field report, I'm pretty certain they haven't been anywhere and are living out their fantasy on the internet. It might seem an unlikely place to present oneself as an "enternational" man of the world, but I've seen people try to do the same thing on internet forums focusing on mutual funds and other truly unexciting topics. Somebody who seems to be spending his entire day (every day) posting commentary can't actually be someone who is actually doing any mongering, can he? Until you actually meet that fellow board member abroad, you really don't know if he is who claims he is. I've only done that with one BM from here so far, and it was great sharing our experiences and getting a tour of the destination (Kuala Lumpur). If you do have a chance to meet up with a BM, do it and you will have someone you can at least trust.
With that said, the least I can do is post photos of my passport stamps, boarding cards for the BOG segments and the receipt for my hotel. Short of making a porn video of my encounters, with my name written across the girls' bodies, I don't know how else to prove I have done what I did. At least I can prove I was on the ground. I wish more people would do this, but I doubt few will. If we were all required to do that when we make trip reports, I expect the number of them would dwindle dramatically. I hope others will follow my lead in the future.
Day 3 - First visit to Santa Fe, Troya & Atunes.
Day 3.
I got up early, and found much of the area shut down. I would be changing hotels to the something near Santa Fe. So, I decided to do more sightseeing around Champinero. On Sundays, the major carerras in Eastern Champinro are shut down to auto traffic, as are most of the businesses along them. Then the carreras become paths for jokers and bikers. Walking down Carrera 7, I noticed two free concerts, at different locations. They appeared to be sponsored by political organizations. Attendance was heavy and security was tight. Personally I liked the fact that Sunday is a play day there, with businesses shut down and the streets reserved for public activities.
Headed back to the hotel for my 1 PM checkout. I finished packing and called a cab using Tappsi. As with all time I used it, the driver asked for a few mil more than what the app said. This driver even consulted a chart before quoting the price. It wasn't worth arguing over, 70 cents. But, you do get to note that on the app after you finish your ride.
My destination was Hotel San Francisco, an actual large hotel in the CBD, just four blocks from Santa Fe. And I do mean four blocks that are easily covered when you are walking quickly at night. It was a deal at around $23 a night and also walking distance down to Candelaria for sight seeing. The Transmilenio runs out front and there is usually a cab waiting right outside the back door. Also a quick cab ride to Monserratte, which is worth a visit, too. I spent the afternoon sightseeing in Candelaria, which is where I first saw freckled, pasty white European girls in shorts and Birkenstocks walking around and generally looking goofy. Prior to that, I had seen few gringos of any nationality in Bogota. I ate a decent meal at a self serve restaurant in Candelaria and rode the Transmilenio back up to my hotel. It was an easy ride so I mistakenly though it was generally a pleasant experience.
I took a disco nap and then got up for a preliminary shower, shit, shave and appropriate attire for the evening. Judging from the comments about Santa Fe, I decided on clothes there were easy to get on an off: a quality long sleeve tee, jogging pants and sneakers with lace-locks (and a hidden pocket to stash the majority of the funds for the evening). It was not late but it was after dark when I made the trot down calle 24, which is where my hotel was off of, right at Cr. 10. I knew the neighborhood along the was was sketchy but not too sketchy after all. Crossed over Cr. 14 and there I was, in a low-budget stag male Disneyland. Zona de Tolerancia is exactly what it has been described as, so there were no suprises. I walked around and got the feel of the neighborhood a bit and decided to look for Atunes. Saw a curvy, younger girl with big, natural looking boobs on a corner, her nipples poking through her thin, tight sweater that caught my eye. She was wearing glasses, but stylish glasses and stood out as being better groomed than the rest of the rabble on the street, aside from not standing in a group with the other girls. An interloper, perhaps?
But, I had just got there and wasn't ready to pull anything yet. I understand now how annoying the hawkers and touts outside the clubs can be. As I walked up Cr. 16 a looking for Atunes, I was approached by a slick young man, who spoke English and said he wanted to take me to Atunes, which was just fine because I was looking for that place and then I noticed I was standing in front of Atunes anyways. However, I let the guy walk me in because I figure that's how he gets his vig and that's okay with me. But, he has decided to be my guide or procurer or whatever, he hung close to me all the time I was there and it became annoying quickly. Atunes is a bit grungy but it has its charms. On that night the girls on stage were actually better dancers than at neighboring Troya, even if they were not pretty. The crowd was subdued, though. I was seated by the stage when one mounted the pole buck naked, and spread her legs wide open at me so I could see her shining a-hole and clean shaved twat. It was so good, I had to cheer and applaud loudly, but nobody else was showing any excitement. The mood among the crowd was best described as grim, which say a lot about their life. As I was enjoying this spectacle my would-be guide brings over a girl he wants me to meet. She is white, shorter dyed hair, wearing what looks like a kitschy thrift store dress and those goofy oversize glassed that millenial chicks like to wear. I believe that is called the Montreal look among millentials. In short, she was an emo millennial's wet dream come true, which in my discerning adult terms means that she wasn't very good-looking. However, she wasn't going away anytime soon and persisted lingering next to me, like I was supposed to engage her. And I'm trying to take in the scenery on stage. After I finish my beer, I get up and leave these clowns behind and went down the street and propositioned the girl with the big boobs. She complains that she is cold and it shows as her nipples are poking out through her sweater. However, she doesn't seem too excited about my interest. I ask how much for an hour and she says 100 mil. No way, I say. I was paying 70 k in a decent brothel the day before. However, in hindsight, I realized that she was probably multiplying her usual 15-minute rate times four. Still, she didn't try to persuade me or show any interest and I walked off, as some other girls called out loudly to me, obviously noting that I was ready to pay and had been slighted by this prima donna. However, there were so many girls on the streets, I was going to give the neighborhood a good look.
I walked past a pair of well decked out trannies standing at the entrance of one of the ST motels. These were not obvious trannies and they looked very nice. I am good at spotting trannies, because I have had gay friends and acquaintances who were drag performers in my younger days. Others may not be as experienced, so beware of them if you are not. As I said those two looked very good. But they were distinctly taller and slimmer than the rest of the girls, so let that be your first red flag.
Anyways, I wandered up and down the blocks looking at the street meet standing in the doorways and driveways of the motels / hotels. At the corner of calle 24 and Cr. 15, there is a decent ST hotel on the corner. Standing by herself was a young, plump, white girl dressed in a plaid skirt, sweater and ankle boots. Her name was Mara, she said she was 22. Though she was not my type she was a good saleswoman. She made a polite pitch to me, 40 k for "medio" and engaged me with her warm eyes. Okay, I'll bite. I still had to pay 7 k for the room, which wasn't bad as it has a TV at the end of the bed with porn going on. Mara got out of her clothes quickly but left her ankle boots on. She was indeed fleshy and had a nice big butt. We got down to business and she was generally pleasant and compliant in switching positions. The pace was still a bit quick, but it was a pleasant experience and I eventually came with her on her side and pumping against her ample white buttocks while I was watching a prettier girl getting fucked in ass on the TV. Once finished, Mara was up and dressed in a flash. I guess it helped that she never took her boots off. I was still getting dressed when she waved me goodbye with a smile and went back out on the streets. I got to say, I admire the girl's work ethic. She wasn't far from being the hottest girl on the block. But, she had social skills, customer service orientation and the desire to actually make some money with her time, which I respect.
I did want to visit Troya and it was a good night to go there. Unlike Atunes, the atmosphere was popping, the girls beautiful and were doing dirty lap dances, and the general feel of the place was good. The music wasn't my type, but it wasn't too loud and at least the stage always had two girl dancing throughout my visit. I had a few girls approach me to offer me company and I suppose, a lap dance. But, I was still in a peasant, post-coital afterglow from Ms. Mara, who was nowhere in the league of these girls. I decided to come back to Troya the next evening and make a night of it there.
After a few beers at Troya, I was feeling tired from all the sightseeing that day. BTW, beers at Troya and Atunes were 8 k each versus 5 k in the Chapinero strip clubs. You would think it would be the other way around. I slid back to my hotel on foot without incident, my testicles emptied and attempted a good night's rest. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Error in my last post, it was actually Atones, not Atunes.
I just realized an error in my last post about my visit to Santa Fe. I was retracing some of my steps on my visit to Santa Fe using Google Maps. Then I noticed something wrong. I thought I was being led to Atunes. Actually, when looking at the location on Google Street View, the sign over the locations said Atones. That explains a few things. I thought Atunes was supposed to be a nicer club, but it was a bit downscale and gritty.
But, I think I can be forgiven. How do two competing clubs have such similar names? Was one trying to glom off the other's fame. So, for the record, that was Atonesthat I visited. Sorry for any confusion.
Bogota's El Dorado Airport
Note: there is an Info desk on the second floor where you can get the latest information.
At the baggage claim, there is a counter where you can get a SIM. But the price was ridiculous. It was $49 USD for 1 Gig for 30 days.
You can get a Claro SIM at the convenience store on the first floor. It was 70 something COP. But the price was double or maybe triple for what you can get at an official Claro store. Another poster wrote that you can get a SIM at some electronics store on the second floor.
The last 2 trips, I got an Avantel SIM. I was told it was cheaper than Claro. 20 K COP for 2 gigs and X minutes for 30 days. Plus the cost of the SIM. But something funny happened. This current trip, I went to the same store in Zona T to get a new SIM and data. I was told that I needed a Colombian ID. He said I couldn't get a new SIM with a passport. I got it before. Is this a new rule? Or a rule never enforced?
At the airport, there is a coupon Van service. It was 70 something COP for a van from the airport to Zona T. There is no coupon service for a passenger car.
I took a regular meter taxi at the airport a few times. I hate to do that. Every time, they tried to scam me. Note: a good android app is Calculadora de Tarifas. It calculates your taxi fare. This pass trip, the fare should have been 26400 COP from the airport to Zona T. I gave him 30 K. I was going to let him have the change. Then he demanded 35 K. Then I took back the 30 K and gave him 28 K (I didn't have any smaller change), and showed him the calculator app.
If I have data left on my phone, I use Uber at the airport. But that's a minor pain. It takes them time for them to get to the airport, plus they park at the parking lot, and you have to walk (short distance) and find them.
Last year, I took Uber to the airport. As I was walking around the airport, a female police officer stopped me and asked me how I got to the airport. I told her I took Uber. I showed her my Uber page on my phone. She jotted down some info and told me to have a nice day. Later on, I got a message from Uber saying that they were sorry that I got stopped by the police, and they were refunding me my Uber fare. I feel guilty if my Uber driver never got paid.
Ripoffs to be watch out for.
Chicas Milenio is the only casa, out of the 5 I've been to, that didn't have prices posted.
Prices should be 30 K for 20 minutes, 40 K for 30 minutes, and 70 K for 1 hour. It seems that the girls there are allowed to overcharge the customers. But I am "only" overcharged 10 K when I select a new girl. If I repeat, I demand the girl charges me the standard price since I tip for BBBJ.
In Chicas Milenio, there seems to be 3 people that work the cash register. The older lady will allow the girls to overcharge you. The younger lady seems to be honest. When I accepted a new girl's offer of 40K for 20 minutes, she told me that price was for 30 minutes. And she told this to me and the girl. There is a new person, a male. Watch out for that fucker. He will rip you off. He kept my change, and acted dumb when I ask for my change back.
Thanks for the info in your last two posts. And others can learn from my experience and yours. Yes, obviously they were trying to rip me off at Chicas Milenio. Both of the female "administradoras" (as my acquaintance called them) were guilty of participating in the report attempts, including the pretty younger girl, Alejandra. She was the one who told me it was now 175 k for an hour of "sexo" with Barbara the branca Paulista. I've never encountered that nonsense anywhere else in Colombia and I hope I never do again.
Okay, I understand now why the Santa Fe clubs charge more for beer. You pay more for getting it from a waiter and he keeps his tip? I don't mind a guy making a living or wanting to be tipped. But, obviously this is not acceptable. Presumably standards of honesty are upheld more at the Chapinero strip clubs? BTW, I also had a waiter at Fiebre try to charge me 30 k for a large Heineken. I walked out.
Yes, I took that van from the airport and paid too much at 68 k to Chapinero. I was still groggy, hadn't had any coffee yet and wasn't thinking clear. I had the same problem you had on the way back to the airport. I gave the driver 25 k which was what the Tappsi app listed from my hotel in the CBD to BOG. Driver said it wasn't enough and all I had left was a 50 k note. Handed him that, he wanted to keep all of it and the 25 k I had just given him. I objected and he gave the 25 k back, and I still objected until he gave me another 10 k back. I wasn't ready to argue since he had given me a pleasant ride and I had a plane to catch. So, it was 40 k. But, next time I will try Uber.
