First time visit to the 4x4 Whiskeria tonight. Got there around 8. 30. R$40 entrance that is put towards consumption. Had a Cuba Libre with Bacardi Gold for R$20 of it. Got to keep the can of Coke.
Initially thought it would be a pretty good spot. Inside is nice, well-kept, red vinyl banquettes and little tables, fiber optic light displays. 2 stages with poles including one pole that is the drop-down from the Boate above. Kind of felt like a Chinese restaurant be / see of the decor. Not a huge number of girls but a nicer, quieter place. Lots of Brazilians in suits.
The issue is that very few girls were rotating through. And, on top of that, some annoying gay guy got on the sound system to do his "strip club DJ" impersonation for about 20 minutes, constantly shouting into the microphone as about 6 different girls rotated on the stages. Couldn't take it and had to bail.
Not sure if there was any way to get up to the Boate w / o paying full price, but probably not.

Well folks, Carnival is right around the corner and it's my first one in Rio. On the other hand, there are 2 issues I face.
1) My company is remaining open and working during Carnival (got to drive those engineers to release product end of March)
2) I'm a cynical, lazy bastard who hates crowds
With those in mind, can anyone suggest that 1-2 "must sees" during Carnival, so I can check the box and at least tell people I experienced it? PM's welcomed or make fun of my here.

The costumes and floats are a must see. Anything associated with the gays I found to be creative and a lot of fun. Otherwise many of the street parades are just an excuse for people to get drunk and make a lot of noise. I find the "music" monotonous and after listening to it for a week or so you will think waterboarding might have been a better option. Other than renting out their apartments for a week to make a few extra bucks there are reasons that locals of means leave town during this time.

However, there is still a way to see the Sambodromo.
Today is the last day to go to the Sambodromo to watch the schools practice. After the practice the crowd gets to March and dance along with the school through the parade route. These practices are totally free. But, again, tonight is the last one.

Rio is a big tourist sex magnet. I think it is more catered to the guys looking for what I would call a porn star experience. Great looking girls, lower prices, magnificent performances but more by-the-hour non-GFE kind of service. Of course there are exceptions but the escort agencies and the termas which is what most Rio fans prefer provides this kind of service. Because Rio is more catered towards tourists there are also more girls speaking English and other non-Porto languages.
Sao Paulo certainly has a much wider selection of choices than Rio. There are no termas (maybe except one) but the boate (nightclub) scene is very good as opposed to similar boates in Rio like Barbarella. The girls in Sao Paulo are more of a mixed type than Rio with a lot more choices of looks and race to choose from. The girls here are just as great looking with the same magnificent performance but their looks are more mixed than the typical morena garota from Rio. On general Sao Paulo is more expensive but since the selection is so large there are also a lot to sample on the less expensive side. Basicly though my observation is that the girls in SP are more catered towards the GFE, all-night experience unless you call someone from a website or escort agency which is also by the hour.
So it all comes down to what you are looking for. Pornstar experience or girlfriend experience. As I said this is what I consider the general situation. There are of course a lot of exceptions. You also need to take into consideration the higher prices and wider selection in Sao Paulo and also the sheer size of the city. The trafic is crazy especially during rush hour. I would also like to add that I have not been to either SP nor Rio in a year but have traveled extensively to SP before that and a few times to Rio too.

A big Hi to Genghis for venturing on the Rio board. Firstly just let me say how much I enjoyed your posts on São Paulo over the years. My 2 cents on this subject based on visiting São Paulo probably 20 times over the years and of course staying in Rio a number of years is as follows.
I think the biggest difference is the type of clubs, that is São Paulo has more boate type clubs, Barabarellas being Rio's poor equivalent. While Rio has more Termas. São Paulo also has more "Clinicas", while Rio has more "prives", this being the 1hr type deals.
The 2 cities differ enormously. São Paulo is a huge spread out city with not much for tourists to do. One could say it is an ugly city. Rio on the other hand has beautiful beaches, a stunningly dramatic backdrop of Granite peaks and lots of tourist things to do. As far as a tourist staying for a week, Rio really is the much better choice.
Variety of women. Totally agree with GK here. São Paulo has a more mixed bunch of GDP's. There are a lot more "white" skinned GDP's than your typical Rio Morena / Mulatta. If you like the "white euro" look São Paulo could be an option for you. If you like the Morena look probably best to stay in Rio.
Service. This is where I disagree with GK. Now for those of you who don't know GK's posts, he has no problem spending R$500+++ on a date. Some of the São Paulo club can be up to R$1000. Hence what GK thinks as a "normal" kind of service, ie dinner, all night Ultra GFE etc is probably not the norm. In my experience the service in São Paulo for a normal budget ie grabbing a girl from Kilt for the night, is about the same as Rio. What I rarely find in São Paulo is girls that come over after work to hang out for free. In Rio this is very very common and this is where you get the Ultra GFE, any girl that comes over for free will do anything and I do mean anything. As I said in Rio, the girls just like to party and gladly bug you to come over for free or go to some club afterwards.
Final summary: They say in Brazil São Paulo is where you go to work, Rio is where you go to have fun. For a first time visitor you would really want to start in Rio unless of course you have a business type reason to be in São Paulo. I will of course qualify my opinion, I never could really find what I was looking for in São Paulo because I like the mixed color way more than the predominant "white" look of Sampa.
Got to spend a few days in Rio a little while ago, did a little reading on sites like this for education, and dove in.
Stayed in an apartment I found on line, and understand that I saved myself a lot of hassle in getting girls up to my room. Apartment was a dive though, and I was embarrassed bringing girls there, but they did not seem to mind at all.

Lesson learned.
Night 2 trolled Balcony again, but found a lovely young Amazonian. Talked and drank a bit, then we took off to Lapa for some clubs and dancing, finally got back to my apartment for 2ish. Lovely sex after, and then morning too. Gave ger R$400 for the night, she seemed happy with that.
Afternoon 3 went to termas Monte Carlo. Nice collection of lovelies. Got some good intel from some other visitors and locals I talked to in the saunas. My problem is that there is only one cabine there with a shower, and frankly, seeing how busy the girls were, I just could not get my head around the tongue bath I wanted to give any one of the girls without the availability of a shower to scrub all the other guys off of them. Left without partaking, but really didn't think it was such a good deal anyway. 40 minutes for about R$250 with a girl (memory may have my numbers off by R$10 or 20).
Night 3 at Balcony's. I was getting bored of the place and same faces, and none of them were looking upscale, mostly trollers and fast deals. I was tired anyway, so made a deal with 2 cuties to do a lesbian show for me in the hourly hotel around the corner. R$85 for the hotel room (can't recall if it was good for 2 or 4 hours) , and spent a while negotiating the girls to R$400 for the 2 hour lesbo show, with full access for me if I wished. The show was good, they seemed into each other, at least they made me believe it which is their job. Problem is 2 girls, me no Portuguese and them no English, they just spend most of the time yakkin and laughin, make me feel too much like some 5th wheel, not the client. Oh well, good and bad.
I know most of you regulars will kill me about what I paid, but I really did not get the sense that I could have haggled down much more. Certainly there were senior and less attractive girls, and no doubt the mythical R$150-200 would have got them for the night, but absolutley no interest. Oh well, that was my shot at Rio, now off to some other country, where my single minded pursuit for sex will completely destroy any chance of actually having a touristy vacation!
