Cartagena Reports

Hey Fellas. Thought I'd post a quick first timers report of LDV from last night. I've read a lot of this forum lately and it seems like a lot of people post things like "LDV. We ALL know about that place" and then move on. I had a great, if slightly expensive (by regular board members standards) , time having some drinks in a pretty low pressure environment. I really liked the place and its an incredibly soft landing for a first timer to Cartagena.

Scene.

You walk up to this place and you'll immediately get a strip club vibe. There are doormen and a handful of hot women smoking cigs outside at all times. For a milli second it can be a little intimidating to go inside, but the scene is actually really really chill. The club doesn't get going till about 10 (really more like 11). Drinks tend to be pretty pricy but as other board memebers mentioned, you'll need to break the 100 COP barrier to take a girl out. Frankly, as a dude that came to party, I didn't find this to be a problem until I was back at the notel with the girl (more on this below). The girls will very rarely approach you unless you make eye contact and signal or go over and talk to them. I prefered this as it allow me to scope out the scene and see what I was dealing with. There is some dancing, but the night I was there, it was mostly for the girls to show off their bods and moves.

Girls.

The ratio of guys to girls here is crazy. There is maybe a 10 to 1 ratio of girls to guys at any time. Personally, I was paralized by the number of options and found it hard to settle on one. As a gringo that speaks almost no Spanish, I found it pretty difficult to converse with some of the girls. I spent a fair amount of time finding a girl that spoke even a little english and was willing to put in the effort to have an uggo conversation with me. For me that was preferable than silently hanging out with the hotest girl in the bar and building zero chemistry.

Negotiation note.

I get it. I don't speak Spanish and it was my first time, but the girl I ended up with quoted me 300 american at first. I gave the the WHAT? Face and said, you must be talking pesos right? We ended up at 300 pesos for three hours (I know that's expensive. Whatever). It seemed like a lot of the tourists were getting quotes in dollars, which I advised them all to ignore. Thanks to reading this board! I retrospect I probably could have battered her down to 200, that would have ruined a bit of the chemistry we had I think. 250 is probably the happy medium I should have gotten.

Extra Info.

The 100 COP problem didn't truely manifest itself until I brought the girl back to the pad. Like another poster mentioned my girl was really drunk. She probably weighed 82 pounds. We had a GREAT time for like one hour 30 and then she got really tired and slept for the rest. I don't blame her even a little here. Does anyone know if the rule is that the girl needs to have 2 drinks or the punter has to spend 100? I had spent 100 by then, but I don't think the girl knew it and was pretty insistent on another drink.

Does Anyone Know Anything About Fragma? It Is Listed On Hillybilly69's Map But All It Says Is "High End Chicas".

Does Anyone Know Any Details?

I am young and good looking and have pulled working girls for free all over Latin America and South East Asia.

Granted it doesn't work everytime, but it certainly happens from time to time.

And generally speaking Latin women prefer white men over local men (attractiveness).

You put a blonde haired blue eyed 25 year old stud next to a comparable local the blonde hair blue eyed dude will win that battle almost every time.

This is the complete opposite of a place like Korea where the women prefer local guys.

Most people are attracted to the exotic look or the unknown as the local features get bland and seem normal and repetitive after awhile.

Thanks for the updates Fun Pete. It looks like Cartagena is continuing to change. It is inevitable as Colombia gets wealthier and the exchange rate makes it so expensive for gringos, places like LDV and Elektra will suffer. It's surely just a matter of time before they shut down completely IMHO. A few years probably, but eventually. Still, make hay while the sun shines as they say.

I do not think that Colombia is getting "Wealthier", considering that the GDP growth has been averaging around 4% and inflation eats about 1. 5 to 3. 5 percent of that, the most growth they are seeing is 2. 5, and most of that wealth goes to the Oil and Mining industry so I do not see how that increases the wealth of the average puta. They still have kids to feed, rent to pay, fathers who do not pay child support, and the ones who do not have kids still want those coach purses and new pair of shoes when they crawl out of bed with some gringo and make their way down to the mall.

I think that I can honestly see that the owner of LDV does not make the money that other bars make because guys do not come there to drink, they come to get women, and the women do not want to be too drunk because they want to make to Electra later to finish their work day, so people do not go to LDV to drink, what they should do is charge a 40. 000 COP cover charger and 40. 000 COP drink minimum, then they would be happy, the clients and the putas would not be forced to get drunk.

Hi Mojo,

The fact that mongers don't go to LDV or ELektra to drink has always been true, but the place is much much quieter than before, so something must have changed. The most obvious reason is, as I said, the exchange rate which has made Colombia over twice as expensive for the tourists than when I first visited 7 or 8 years ago. As for the economy, the numbers I'm looking at tell me that GDP has grown 30% in 5 years. This means Colombia is getting much wealthier. You're right to say this takes a while to find its way down to the average working girl though, but it will eventually, bar any major economic crisis such as we saw in Argentina.

The additional factor effecting LDV and Elektra is Aldo's gambling habits. .

You say that the place is much "quieter" than before, does that mean less Chicas and Less Mongers? I have not been there since May of 2011, and I am heading down in less than two weeks.

Seems like the market / environment is ripe for a new freelance bar / club.

It's best though if the chica you are with doesn't drink the bottle herself since that becomes a waste of money in more ways than one. It's been a couple of years since I've last been to LDV, can you refresh my memory what a bottle of Medellin Anejo costs? I think my bar tab was usually north of 100K anyways.
