I second IT with respect to Pervak - a very good restaurant indeed and the business lunch is extremely reasonable. Yep if ypou want I can rate some beers...

Im my opinion both Arean's own and Shato's own are not bad but... hummm all the types are not in my style (I prefer less hops and more round, mild taste, I can tell you I'm a fan of Forst draught Beer in Italy, but this says nothing). Thre are other micro breweries in Kiev.

The best local is Chernigov and may be then with a distance Slavutich and Lvivske (the beer from Lviv). There are also other locals, and licence made (Tuborg/Carlsberg group and Efes group). Some places have Baltika 3 on draft, not bade at all do not know if made in Russia or under licence, still in my opinion the best FSU beer.

Just my two cents on beer...

The address of the one I go to is Михайловская, 24а - that's uphill from Independence square on one of the 'spoke' streets. Speaking of beer, unfiltered beer (живой пивo ) is mistranslated at the restaurant I'm at in Lviv (левый берег - Left Bank) as 'Live Bear'. :D

If I travel to Ukraine then I prefer local drinks and of course local girls (with few exceptions maybe Russian too

Try a new place I found called Radio City. I think. It was jumping wall to wall jumping with women. Got my ass pinched a few times on the dance floor. That was a nice treat.

Losts of Vodkas.... in UA, I mean local ones, some of various types of Nemiroff are by the best, but are not in my taste.

I fairly prefer Russki Standart Platinum (or other Russian that are difficult to find even in Moscow!) But you can find bot top end vodkas (Russian and Ukranian) in the drink section of Mandarin Plaza Supermarket (underground always open 24/24 I suppose) and on the ground floor (behind perfumes) of TSUM on K. street.

Fresh caviar (differnt types, red one, salmon, sturgeon, etc..) can easily be brought at the centre of Bessarabski rinok... from the fish/caviar desks...
