My perception is that being drugged and robbed in Medellin is possible, it's statistically very unlikely and if something is too good to be true (free sex on the first date with a hot young Paisa) then it isn't true. Walk away.

Although, if you're in a hotel in Rio, you're probably not at risk of being robbed in Medellin.

At most hotels there are maintenance people and a cleaning staff, all with keys to your room. It wasn't too long ago when a BM had his cash stolen by one of the maids. Several times in the past I've been given a key to a room already rented to someone else, or had someone else open the door to my room because the front desk made a mistake. I've also been placed in adjoining rooms with 1 or both doors unlocked, and ground floor rooms with the windows unlocked.

And in Colombia, even in several of the nice hotels I've stayed in, finding someone at the desk who speaks English is at best 50-50.

But the issue isn't whether your risks of being robbed in Medellin when staying in a hotel in Rio are less than when staying in an apartment in Medellin. The issue is taking responsibility for your own security.

If you start assuming you're safe because of where you stay or who you see, you'll get robbed whenever someone has the time. The criminals are pretty busy with all the people who aren't paying attention.

Much of it depends on where you're at in the US.

However, MDE is a large mongering scene, and in 1 area it might be the largest. That would be Facebook. Is there anywhere else with a Facebook scene to rival Medellin? In other areas and overall it's not at the top.

None of that matters. What matters is what you're looking for. Your top mongering scene could be anywhere. It doesn't matter how much I like Medellin if you're looking for tall, blue eyed blondes, or chubby Indian girls.

Your new temp wife shows up and you give her enough to cover all her expenses for 1 month and promise 6 months more, paid each day, for another month. She realizes she forgot some things she needs, or she needs to give the money to her mother. Whatever the reason, she needs to leave, but she'll be right back.

After a few hours you start sending messages. She might answer. Chances are, if she does, it's because she figures she can get more money from you. Sometimes it's a family emergency, sick grandmothers are popular. She might come back and you might get your fairytale. Or she might come back and a few days later you wake up and everything is gone.

7 million pesos in Medellin goes a long way towards buying a house. You're ready to give a girl 1 million just to show up and say Hello,. Even if she plays the role perfectly, she might not be right for you.

Set up 3 or 4. Meet 1 for dinner and decide if she's worth a trip to your room. Once you get 1 to the room decide if she's worth keeping overnight. If she's still worth keeping in the morning, make your proposal. Only pay for what she's earned and pay the rest at the end. If she needs to give someone money, have the person come to you. Repeat until you find the right one.

What's working against you is that your plan worked once. Your brain is telling you that you have a winning strategy. Reality is saying you got lucky.

People lie, embellish and bend the facts to put themselves in the best light. Chances are you've done it plenty of times. The more embarrassing the situation, or the greater the consequences, the more likely they are to bend the truth.

What you should be taking from that stuff is:

1. People get drugged and robbed.

2. People get drugged and robbed by people who have access to their drink.

3. A person who can afford international travel to get laid makes a good target.

I'd go as far as to say that I'd have missed out on some of my best experiences taking your advice.

Any situation meeting a stranger is not going to be 100% safe but you can mitigate the risk. I like to meet women with a robust social media presence and who seem super open and willing to talk about their lives and backgrounds extensively before we meet. I'm also going to be mindful of where we are meeting (I chose), order transportation myself and keep an eye on drinks etc. If the girl gives me a good vibe, seems to trust me and let me take the lead, and seems like she has nothing to hide during a date I'll consider inviting her to my apartment.

There is no reason why you should be robbed of 7000 dollars because you shouldn't bring that much cash to a third world country in the first place. It's an idiot rookie move. The biggest change I made is getting a Schwab debit card. There is no reason anymore to bring a bunch of cash and convert at a cambio. Just take out the minimum you need for that night from an ATM and Schwab will reimburse you the fees. Back in the day Schwab denied my checking account because my credit sucked. Once they changed their policy a few years ago, and stopped using credit scores for checking, I was able to get approved. Now I never bring a lot of cash.

Today, I have a Schwab and SoFi checking account. Neither charges international fees or cash withdrawal fees. You don't get reimbursed at sofi for ATM convenience fees but everything else is free. Always have 2 checking accounts. You need 2 for backup in case one gets declined because of their BS fraud alerts because you swiped at McDonald's twice in a row which actually happened to me. 2 k in each account and you're gold. If someone scopes you or breaks in they ain't getting much because you shouldn't have much. My last trip I brought a whole 300.00 in cash. That's it.

It's certainly possible that I'll hand my seeking girl a million pesos and two minutes later she get's a phone call, her dog was just hit by a car, it's an emergency and she's gone. First of all, if she does that then she's just thrown away the remaining 6 million, so why would she do that, but who knows, it's possible. In that case I just lost a million (that's $210 US) which will not destroy my vacation and I will just open the old laptop, hunt around a little and head off to one of the better brothels, strip clubs etc. I'm in a location with thousands of other options.

The only thing which I am a little uncertain about are the exact prices in Medellin. I am attaching a photo. She is 19. Is a million pesos per day too much? Will it sound suspicious? I'll also spend a few dollars on her for her meals or if we go out to a club however that might be another $30 a day. In a lot of places you would need to pay several hundred dollars or more per hour for this girl. A million sounds low to me. So I am wondering if anyone has an opinion.
