When I stayed at the Mansion I felt as though that area might have been protected by gangs. I've made friends with a lady and I'm going to see her again. I met her in person. Your story scares me because even though I can mitigate the risk by avoiding Tinder, I can't eliminate the risk. I'the like to let my guard down with one of these ladies, but I can't get around the fact that MDE is 400 years old. I have no clue of back channel agreements and gang affiliations. I was in Medellin during Easter week. I expected to do my usually barrio party rounds like I did during the Christmas / New Year holidays. But this time, the barrios were very quiet and mellow compared to before. One instance, I was invited to a family get together in the barrios, ready to eat and drink up endless guaro. Then the grandma (matriarch of the family) shut us down jajaja. Said it's going to be Good Friday, and we can't be drinking liquor. Funny thing, last year during Christmas celebration, the entire block was party central. Holy Week was definitely a party killer, all good though. I stayed to chat it up with the family, then quietly bounced so I can get a party started in my apartment.

I did my usual regulars where I invite 2-3 girls over and just party it up without any worries of being drugged or robbed. I don't have to look over my drinks or my shoulders at all. I have lived in Costa Rica for the past two years and speak about A2-B1 Spanish and am working hard on improving it, and plan on moving to Medellin permanently in July. I already have some family friends and connections in Medellin.

A lot of the Medellin expat facebook groups I'm a part of all talk about how dangerous it is to meet a girl off of Tinder, Bumble, etc because of Scopolamine, and how cautious you need to be when meeting someone online. If you talk to most expats on these facebook groups, it would seem like meeting girls online is really dangerous, especially if you're talking to girls with slutty profile photos (I think that's an important detail because I often view these women in slutty outfits as a red flag). They do acknowledge, however, that you can have a safe time, if you take certain precautions. A lot of those precautions being get her social media, take a picture of her cedula, don't have sex on the first date, always have a doorman that watches out for you, never leave your drink alone, etc etc etc (and about 40 other things to do).

And yet, with everything I read on this forum, it seems like everyone is kind of doing the opposite, meeting a lot of these women with slutty profile pictures that would normally be red flags, having sex on the first date, and still being safe. Before I started reading this forum I thought [URL]seeking.com[/URL] would be just really dangerous to get involved with, to not meet women with profile pictures that are too slutty, basically avoid Tinder all together, etc. Now I'm just more confused. So, my question is, how do you keep safe? How do you avoid being the next Paul Nguyen? How do you avoid getting involved with one of these prepagos that would drug any other expat?

I should also add I'm in my mid 30's, tall, in pretty good shape, and pretty good looking. Not too big of a partier.

P.S. If you have any advice on how to find an apartment, feel free to send me a DM. I'm familiar with all of the websites to find an apartment, but trying to find a nice modern apartment that doesn't charge Casacol prices in a less touristy area like Laureles, which seems pretty impossible.

The ones that are trying to lure "victims" often have the cleanest profile, and a great cover story. Was talking to a guy last night. Found a normal gal on social media, went on 2 or 3 dates, she had a regular job, etc. Then she drugged him and cleaned him out, over 10 grand worth of stuff. Police don't give a shit, unless it becomes an international incident, and then they may. But a tourist / gringo whatever getting drugged is an everyday thing, and the folks here assume you had it coming.

Has anyone of you gone done the rabbit hole on why the women in Colombia so hot? The chance that a woman is hot in Colombia is so high compared to other countries. I've seen cleaners working in malls that 8's or 9's which is something you would never seen in the US. I had a housekeeper in Medellin and she could easily be a MILF porn star in Miami if she wants to. Why?

1. Maintenance. Colombian women are definitely spending more time and money in their looks than American women. They workout a lot, walk a lot. Eat less processed food. Plus Colombia in general has less obese people. They would never just put on some PJs and head to the mall. They always well dressed and have make up on.

2. Genetics. This is where I hope one of you has done some studies and is willing to share. Based on what I know, the earlier European settlers were entirely Spanish males, and they married with native women and had mixed children. Many Colombian cities are in valleys so they did not mix with other races until 19th or 20th century. I am not en expert in genealogy, so please share some thoughts.

Yes, because of poverty, women take the metro and walk a mile or two to their job location rather than spend money on a taxi. So their weight stays healthy for a longer time. BUT as to the processed food comment. You couldn't be further from the truth. Street venders are selling fried everythings and they have no trouble selling their wares. You also see a proliferation of American style fast food restaurants all over the place which was far less common as few as 3 to 5 years ago.

I'm afraid the US is exporting the American diet to Colombia and in time the effects will be apparent. BTW China is a super good example. If you go back 40 to 50 years, you would rarely see a Chinese man or woman who was obese. Their diet of rice and vegetables was standard. But as the country opened up to more and more Western trade, the US exported its American diet and the cities in China have had a growing obesity problem.

Are you F'in kidding me? The Spaniards came over and raped anything they saw that got their little penes hard (women, girls, boys even alpacas). They also spread their European diseases which decimated the indigenous population. But the result was a very attractive blend of mostly European and various indigenous genes and so today you see these stunningly beautiful women.

I would offer something to support my theory. The women of Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile are not nearly as stunning [B]on average[/B]. Why is that? The huge influx of European soldier / explorers was far less abundant in those areas and so the indigenous were not wiped out to the same extent.

Much of this is discussed in detail in the book "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond.
