Work long hours now. Busier that a Pro Girl at a Tool & Dye Convention. Took a break this morning to check some Posts on the Philippine Forum. Information posted on hotels had me a little depressed for Guys who will make their first Trips to Cebu. Who the fuck needs to get lousy information on hotels.
Over the past 25 years travelling to Cebu I must have stayed at more than 30 different hotels and pension houses Some are gone now but most remain. I would urge you to avoid all pension houses unless you are of the backpacker set. No security and little safety and absolutely no comfort can be found in any of them! These places are primarily for Filipinos travelling who will need them for 1-2 days enroute to a work location or to meet relatives. They seek only a place to sleep and normally take their food into the room from a carenderia outside.
As a young guys years ago I stayed at the Kukuck's Nest on Gorordo Avenue. This was back before Raymond, the German owner, Shot his Brains out with a revolver while drinking with two guys one evening. Word was he was losing money, drinking way too much and extremely depressed. I actually stayed there for eight (8) nights. It was NOT a good move by me. I took the biggest and "finest" room, the only one with a private bathroom and air conditioning. It was horrific. And the fucking weirdos you had to deal with whenever you would venture outside for a drink of food were way too much.
When I checked out, I vowed to never return. I did stop by a couple years later for a snack with my then infant daughter (now a lovely, young lady). I heard then of Raymond's recent suicide. Had a painting of him hanging up at the time.
Now I do not know if anyone actually reads my Forum. I may be "preaching to the Author" here. But I saw how guys on the Cebu Board were still relating what a "fabulous" hotel the Park Lane Int'l Hotel is! I stayed her for three (3) nights in January 2011. It was so horrific that I almost checked out after the second night, in spite of having paid for three nights in advance online. Looking back, I wish I had left after the second night. The money wasted would be nothing compared to what a PIECE OF SHIT HOTEL PARK LANE IT!
Rude, obnoxious Staff and totally incompetent. One guy approached the Filipina I was with one morning after breakfast (only breakfast I ate there in spite of it being included with the room). Ignoring me, he spoke to her in vasayan and asked her a bunch of questions concerning me. Foreign languages are one thing I mange to pick up very quickly. I speak Spanish and vasayan is 30% Spanish anyway. I told him to stay away from us and that I would NOT tell him again. In the three nights here I NEVER ate another meal. I had all my lunches and dinners at area restaurants and skipped breakfast.
Room Service was horrifically overpriced. I could not believe the prices, here in Cebu, that they expected people to pay, A MUCH BETTER DEAL can be had at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. I wrote a detailed Account of my Horrific Experience here and gave it to the General Manager's Assistant. The fucking GM said he was "too busy" to talk with me. Not surprising. I also posted an Account of my Stay on Agoda but, of course, it was never published.
At the Hotel I stay at now I pay much less than Park Lane, get a much bigger room (rooms at Park Lane are small; I complanied about the "closet" the initially had me in and got a room the size of one of my bathrooms in my home). If you book online you can get a good rate at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel nearby. It IS FAR SUPERIOR TO PARK LANE.
I did notice on my several trips to the front desk of the Park Lane to try to resolve some problem, that most of the Guests had booked online at some website and were making their first visit to Cebu. On check in, a woman from Taiwan was making plans for her group to get a van to the Airport and back to Taiwan. On check out a group from India was checking in. This Hotel could FUCKING CARE LESS IF GUESTS ARE UNHAPPY. They market people who will be making a one time trip to the Philippines. No need to show any quality service.
On coffee shops, a surprising discussion on the Cebu Board of the Philippine Forum, I normally go to the coffee shop on the second floor of Robinson's Mall. I can usually sit here without being disturbed and it is a good place to meet ladies of the "young Prostitute" version.
