I will be in Quito next week and have read abd reread the forums.

I am having a little trouble finding Cheers and Touch Me on any of my maps. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of these locations.

According to Tung's excellent posts, Cheers is at an intersection of Colon and Av America. My map shows these two streets do not intersect. Could there be another Colon?

Touch Me is located by Rumilipamba. I can not find this street for the life of me. Is it near Parque la Carolina?

I just want to get these addresses to the general area I will be looking to save me wasted time.

Hey Tuna Man, I can help you out. For Cheers, Av. Colón and América do intersect, right near the Parque Itália. And as far as Touch Me is concerned, don't bother looking for Av. Rumipamba, that's what I did and I wasted close to an hour wandering around the streets of Quito. Just get on Diez de Agosto and you'll find it; the exact address is 4033 Diez de Agosto, right off the Trolébus line. If you can, try to bring exact change of seven bucks; or in the spirit of this thread, see if you can pay with 700 pennies lol!

Actually, I'm sitting here in sex prison, resizing some more pics I have from Ecuador, so in addition I will include a map with this posting, with both the locations for Cheers and Touch Me circled. All I ask in return is that you post some reports and/or pics!

I certainly will post a trip report when I return. Maybe some pics too if I can make my 50 yo brain figure out how.

It's really embarrasing when I hunt and peck in an internet cafe when a 15 year old comes in and types and holds on a conversation at the same time.

I think you can strike Cheers off your list. I just saw it being cleared by the police abou 10 minutes ago (and not the nice ones, the nasty southamerican kind in army uniforms!).

The scene was policemen, news-cameras, people covering their faces with jackets and all that stuff. I think it should be on the news tonight.

Let´s hope they haven´t got hold of Tungs list and started from and end!

Was in Cafe Rojo yesterday, filled to the brim with clients and pretty girls, though the 20$ is a little on the expensive side.

The cops already know the existence of these establishment that Tung mentioned. It's probably no accident that cops in army uniforms were used, as these cops were from somewhere else and not likely to have been bribed by these establishments. Most likely, some NGO weenies are causing the stink much higher up. Speaking of accidents, I wouldn't mind seeing on the nightly news, some NGO types being hauled away--on a gurney, with faces covered up.
Then again, it's a catch-22. A comprehensive list like Tung's is a lot of help to mongers, and also a lot of help to the enemy.

If anybody has any links to related articles or video clips please include them in a post. I'm sure alot of people giving thought to ecuador will want to know.
When is the election scheduled for again...october?

That's a different, angle, Artistyp. It could be the election that's motivating this.
It looks good to voters when a politician is doing something about cleaning up the neighborhood. Then back to business as usual of course.
I guess we'll have to wait until after the election to see if the closing of the prostibulos continues.

It is similiar to Mexico (and probably other countries) in that the governments are attempting to at least making it appear as though they are taking the elections and/or democracy seriously. The idea is that if people are drunk or hungover, they might shirk there civic responsibility and not vote . . .. . . and citizens will be fined for not voting. However, some places have served booze, . . . .. . and some have been busted and it's not just the chongos. This is what I also witnessed in the Mariscal where a shawarma joint was popped by the authorities, which included all the fanfare.

BTW, can you imagine if the good 'ol USA had these laws?

Maybe somehow indirectly, it wouldn't be a sex prison then...

Just a thought, As this happened in the "dry" period the last 24 hours before the election, and I saw "Kats" being closed friday night, I am thinking that maybe it is connected to this rather peculiar ecuadorian law.

I haven´t been able to find any news-clips on the subject, but then again I haven´t looked that hard.

Do any of the locals know anything?

All bars, discos and clubs as well as grocery stores cannot serve alcohol from Thursday till Monday because they worry that people will vote either drunk or will not vote at all. I doubt that the casa closings are perminent.

I'd like to know what the political climate is down there these next few days. If anyone is down there (tunaman etc.) please let us know. What is the mood of the people???

I also read online that there were two eartquakes sunday evening (10/15) both 4.4 along those lines. Does that have any relation to tunghu...etc. or any precursors to more quakes ?

Yes, that was the Kats I was referring to. They have a huge neon sign saying either "Kats" og "Cats".

I am here in Quito, but I have no idea of the generel mood. There have, as far as I have seen, not been anything in the news about it.

Regarding the quakes I felt the first but not the second, a small tremple, lasting no more than 5 seconds. Apparently this is very normal in the beginning of winter and nothing to worry about.

Do you feel there will be protests like those in mexico due to the election?

There will be a runoff election in a month or so (I think) between a so-called leftist (he is really an anti-abortion catholic nationalist) and a rightwing billionare bananaman. The results of the net election could be dangerous if it is seen by the poor as having been stolen by the rich. There are certainly similiarities between Mexico & Ecuador. IMHO though, Mexico's election crises would most likely have been easily averted had they allowed simply a vote by vote recount to put the concerns of fraud at rest. What was the big deal ?

I am in Guayaquil.Results suppose to be in October 27,but doubtful.I think there will be protests but doubt it would affect average traveler
