Do not get a taxi from the desks in front of you after you passed through the last customs check, they will be asking 35USD or more pre-paid Go outside, ignore the taxi touts and get a Silver Bird which will cost you about 10USD on the meter plus a small charge for the toll road. Atlet Century Park is the nearest hotel to Senayan, check price on net (I use asiarooms) but it will be more than 30USD.

I should add that if you are trying to impress up market girls/models they won't be impressed with the Atlet or any other similar or cheaper hotel; you will need to be paying circa 100USD minimum. Jakarta girls are very well tuned in to the price of everything.

For a while now the international arrivals have developed the same taxi system as the domestic arrivals. JUst walk to curbside and different taxi companies are assgined different parking spots marked with yellow signboards. So usually you can just grab a bluebird that is sitting there. If the blueburd space is empty there is usually a bluebird dispatcher who will call you one.

Also, an equally honest yet even cheaper cab is "Taxi Express." The taxis are all white with "Taxi Express" written on the side. They still use the 4000 meter down rate rather than the 5000 meter down date. Granted you will be getting a better car with Silver Bird. But hey you never know when you will need that extra 20K firepower to close the deal on a model type?

2 quick points Exit:

- When someone asks a question to this forum for help, and unless there a compelling reason to do so, I don't go back checking their previous posts. So no I did not read them: I reacted to whatever you said and implied.

- As Bulai put it later, you will not impress anyone by wanting to take a model type girl to a cheap hotel: chances are she'll drop you to go back if she sees where you're taking her. Those girls may not be the brightest but they sure know the value of things and relate it to what they can expect to get from you. Why do you think that the girls ALWAYS ask you as a second question ¨"Where do you stay" within 10 seconds after you meet them? Think about that.

If you want to be coherent with your search and intent, the Mulia is probably the best solution for you. I heard you could get it for around 120 USD. From my days when I used to travel here for business, I always found that the hotel booking desk at the airport, just near the bagage delivery belts, had very good rates for 5 star hotels.

Thank you very much bulai. Let me relate what happened on my 1st trip. It was an incident where I was screwed over by airasia cause I was slightly late on my flight to medan. They do not allow me to check in. So I thought what the heck chose and later flight and off I flew to jkt. The jakarta trip was unintended and not expected. And so I didn't make any guide checks on the jakarta trip and went there like a blind man. Lolz.

As usual cause that place is my 1st time I'm blind and saw the 1st sign of indo hotel bookings. So I booked: (. Jln jaksa. Forgot what hotel is it. But it was cheap tho. 150k rupiah. But the taxi to that place is another 150k. Fuck. Got conned I presume.

That is my comment on my trip. I'm smarter now.

I am a Newbie for this forum. Due to that, I seek your kind opinions.

I am planning to go Bandung and Jakarta, Indonesia in July. So, I hope that some of you can provide me some guide in where to stay in both cities where the actions are.

My current initial plan is to stay in Bandung first during the weekends, with minimal clothes and jeans because you can buy those in Bandung. My friends told me it is reasonable there. While there for 3~4 days, I'll will do normal sightseeing, nature, day to day life and girls (Yes, I did not forget). Then, I plan to go to Jakarta via 3 hours trains ride from Bandung because the ride give out a great view. I stay in Jakarta for another 3~4 days. I like to stay where it is easy to get to the Sokerno-Hatta Airport because they told me the traffic jam is really bad and might caused you to miss your flight.

As you see, I got some idea in Bandung but when come to Jakarta. My mind just totally blow off. Any suggestion to make my trip more enjoyable.

Certainly you are right and searching for a taxi in arrivals it can be a way of saving time if there is a queue at Silver Bird. However, for those new to Jakarta there is a risk of being ripped off so new comers need to be careful.

Personally I always pre-book a silver Bird through the hotel which costs about 30% more but saves time and it's chargeable but if I was paying myself I would certainly do as mongerxx suggests

You'll find the Bali Hai a place of interest, it is renown and has quite a reputation for this type of action.. Key it in and do a search in this thread, you'll get many hits.

But I'll help you out in one area where the info on the subject may not be clear. There is one good hotel near the airport, the Sheraton Bandara, but the problem here is that you're far away from town and where most of the action is.

Yes, there are many horror stories of people missing their flights because they got stuck in traffic on their way to the airport. One reason for this traffic is the heavy rains and flooding here, luckily we are now at the end of the rainy season. A second reason is the in-town traffic just to get from your hotel to the toll road to the airport. I live within walking distance to the toll road entrance, but one day last week at 5 p.m. it took me 45 minutes to get from my apartment complex to the toll road and only 25 minutes more to reach the airport.

So if you're worried about getting to the airport, here's a compromise - stay at the old Hilton, which is now called the Sultan Hotel. It's located next to an entrance to the toll road, so even in times of heavy traffic you are fairly sure of reaching the airport in less than one hour from the Sultan. The Sultan is also located on Jl. Sudirman and the main north-south Transjakarta busway, convenient to Blok M, Plaza Indonesia, and fairly close to the three infamous bars BATS at the Shangri-La, 30 Bar at Le Meridien, and C.J.'s at the Mulia, as well as this new place X2 that's been discussed a lot all of a sudden.

I look forward to some good posts from you about your experiences here in Jakarta - that's the least you can do in return for all of the free information to be found here!

Left unsaid is why Jakarta doesn't have an "Airport Express" train similar to that in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and many other cities. Supposedly one is planned but won't be open until 2012 or later.

And regarding the issues about taxis. Since silver bird or blue bird are the more reliable taxi's. To get from 1 place to another using silver or bluebird taxis usually where do I get them? Or I ask them to wait? Lets say I wanna go to plaza senayan for mongering, should I ask these taxi's to wait or there would be alot of bluebirds or silverbirds waiting near the taxi stands?

Your info and recommendation is much appreciated. Will try to get pics starting from now. Have been screwing around for years and didn't take any pictures: (. And give FR.

Unfortunately the Atrium Mall is nowhere near the Senayan area. It's located a bit northeast of the MONAS Monument (the phallic monument in the center of downtown, also known as "Sukarno's Last Erection") whereas the Senayan area is a few miles south of MONAS, near the Youth Monument (also known as the "Pizza Man" statue).

But yes, the Atrium Mall is good for daytime mongering, and Plaza Senayan should also be good. Or you could hop down to the Hotel Melawai at Blok M, take the elevator to the 6th floor, and have a 1-hour daytime session with one of the cuties there, 300,000 rupiah plus a small tip (50,000?). Ask for Evie, Citra or Sandra.

Bluebird taxis are easy to find virtually everywhere. All of the big malls such as Plaza Senayan, Senayan City (where the new X2 is supposedly located, it's across the street from Plaza Senayan, same owner as Plaza Senayan, different mix of shops), Plaza Indonesia, etc. will have Blue Birds waiting at the taxi stand outside the main entrance. No need to keep a BB waiting for you at any of these malls.

One warning - make sure you are in a real Bluebird taxi! Unfortunately there are some competing taxi cab companies whose cabs are also painted blue. This is actually a serious matter - about once a month a passenger gets robbed while inside a taxi, and it is always a blue-colored taxi cab but never a Bluebird. A real Bluebird will have the words "Blue Bird" on the front windshield, up top.

I take taxis 4-5 times a day, and I always take either Bluebird, Express (white) or Gamya (forest green color). In a pinch I'll take Koperasi taxis (ugly orange and green), which are ok but all of them seem to be cabs from the 1980s.

I rarely take Silver Bird taxis in town, but I always take a Silver Bird going to and from the airport. And Bulai69 is right - if you're a newbie to Jakarta, your best bet is take a Silver Bird to avoid getting ripped off. The price to go from the international airport to Atlet Century Park should be whatever is on the meter (probably 100,000 to 120,000 rupiah), plus 9,500 rupiah for the tolls and an 8,000 rupiah airport surcharge, which is a legitimate charge (you only pay it on the way into town). plus a small tip (around 10,000?).
