In fairness I was with the family so maybe I was at the wrong places but most of the hotel and restaurant staff commute from Lombok by boat due to very little housing and rooms.

It used to have a bit of a reputation but no more. I stayed at a decent hotel quite close to the rail station and found a nice little bar nearby but no talent to speak of though there were a few random girls that were in larger groups. Also close by on the Main Street where most of the horse drawn carriages are located, There are a warren of pedestrian alleyways off this main thoroughfare and stumbled upon a place where several women were hanging out on a Sunday morning but it was difficult to tell if this was a brothel or they were just gossiping. None were attractive so a moot point. There were zero bars on the main street, which stretch quite a few blocks. There was one mall on this street near the beginning but did not notice any girls looking to make some cash.
I am sure there is underground activity but without any contacts, it was not worth the effort. I also thought parts of the city were quite dirty.
A bit outside the central area are a couple of streets where most of the tourists type backpackers stay (look up LP or Rough Guide for more specifics). There were several bars and restaurants including one called the Beatles bar owned by an Iranian guy. It was a fun area just to walk around and eat but did not see any girls who might be game. Your chances are better here than anyplace else.
I was visiting Yog because it's easy to get to Borobudur, the ancient shrine, from Yog. If your going to this temple, you can forget about any girls. The town is extremely quiet at night. You get up early, go the temple, and then head back to Yog.

I can't relate to what is said below. Yogya is nice. Slightly cooler climate than Jakarta or Bali, great hotels, hire a motorbike.

Safest bet and best girls would be getting LC's (Lady Companions) from one of the higher class karaokes such as Bosche and Sugar. When the girls line-up just ask the mami which ones are willing to provide full service so you won't be disappointed, as there are a few that will only sing.
You pay a few to the karaoke for the girl to "accompany" you singing, what you arrange after that with the girl privately is up to you.
So OS took a ride on his motorcycle to Cikarang to visit a friend. Cikarang is at the heart of West Java's industrial hinterland. To the East of the sattelite city of Bekasi. Got there about 3 PM. Friend had a beer waiting which kind of ruled out OS braving all that crazy traffic for the ride back to Jakarta so what could he do but agree to a night of hospitality.
We started with dinner at local area where OS spent some time doing battle with his sworn enemies, those big green blowflies that seem to turn up sometimes in Indonesia when you sit down to an outdoor dinner. Part of the reason OS will never eat seafood at Bandar Ancol again. Those blowflies have a habit of killing your appetite.
As the evening got darker, the lights came on. On more and more gentlemen's clubs and Kareoke joints as we drove through Lippo Cikarang on our way for a sauna. Cikarang has a very high population of Koreans and Japanese who supervise in the factories, these guys have quite a refined entertainment model, add in the thousands of buyers, qc people, consultants and people away from home on work and by osmosis this area has a vibrant nightlife.
So after a sauna which was simply a social relaxation event, OS took the offer of a massage of which his muscles are still sore two days later. Happy ending and other things were on offer but politely declined as still had kareoke to go.
So after a couple of hours we move on the the Apple Japanese restaurant. WTF? This place doesn't have a mouthful of food in sight. Rather a bar and a warren of upstairs kareoke rooms. Theres seven of us in the group, my friend and 5 of his friends and employees (so much for the traditional Indonesian command and control management structure) and then a couple of banci's (ladyboys), who drifted in like stray cats. Cikarang must be the banci capital of Indonesia but interestingly they just joined in and partied on like the rest of us. Nobody cared. Banci's can be very funny and for anyone that studies languages, Indonesian banci's have evolved a language of their own that fits in quite comfortably with the dozens of other dialects that you will hear.
So in comes the lineup and a quality lineup it was. OS chose a lady with which he could consort for the evening as did two or three others and away the party went.
Now anybody that wants to do a real Indonesian private room function or Kareoke show with these guys is in for a shock. They go hard. Drink, dance. Their concept of Kareoke is you drink beer and whisky as fast as you can and touch up the girls any which way and then some more as long as you keep the money flowing. OS was propositioned quite early in the affair. Options being take the lady to one of the many nearby short time hotels for ST 1 Million or LT 1. 5 Million. OS declined as he was a guest of some temporarily seriously non compliant halal gentlemen and did not want to seem rude. This did not seem to deter the young lady who followed OS into the en suite toilet to the Kareoke room and locked the door. Rather shortly afterwards OS had her perched on the washbasin bench with her knickers lying on the floor while OS rubbed inside a lovely hairy forest of black pussy hair. Being a commercially minded sort of a lass she insisted OS go and pay the papasan before returning to the washroom to consumate the relationship. This all seemed a touch too hard so OS slid her knickers back up her legs and went back to the party. Also OS hadn't brought much cash as he was only coming for the afternoon.
By about midnight some of the soldiers were starting to fade, the girls were getting drunker and friendlier and OS was definitely enjoying his night in Cikarang. At 01.30 closing time, off we went in search of the compulsory kebab shop.
Interestingly it didn't end in anything but the opportunities were certainly there. Another girl later, who danced so, so up close to OS was super keen to accompany OS but given was staying at an apartment owned by my host it wasn't really an option. Organised her to come to Jakarta for a night later.
Lippo Cikarang would be worth a visit for any more adventurous punter. By toll road only maybe 2 hrs from Soekarno Hatta airport, lots of play options although not sure of any fishbowls. Plenty of hotels both up and down market, lots of Korean and Japanese restaurants and cheaper prices for ladies than Jakarta if LT was being considered. Twitter available under availcikarang# or bocikarang#, just harvest the WA number and give it a try. Bahasa would be a plus but the quickest way to learn a language is this game is to get a long haired dictionary.

For all the price over 200 k rp is foreigner (who doesn't know indonesian language) price. Because they assume most foreigners are rich and don't know the exact pricing.

I hate posting for requests for contacts but I m rather frustrated with we chat and the lot. I am from the uk but my heritage is indian / malaysian and unfortunately there is a horible stereotype against us. So would appreciate if anyone could help me out. I am in bali at the moment and have found the x houses to work but its kind of lonely at the night. I will be visiting Jakarta in Jan. However, the OP mentioned that he will be living there for months and Jogja is a University town with thousands of young, inquisitive students looking for experience and often with fees to pay.
He can just go online and / or meet and greet on the street. When word gets out of a new white guy living in town the options will come to him. They won't need to be searched out.
