I apologize for the late trip report. I hope someone will find it useful. I had a case of food poisoning that came from a pizza place in my hometown. I was sick for a week. The only advantages of Avianca a national carrier for Colombia is that they help you with the registration. You don't have to Check-Mig they handle it for you when you reach the counter. Also, when I got to customs there wasn't a long line or confusion. On the other hand, with the USA carriers you have to do Check- Mig no earlier than 2 days and at least an hour before you arrive. It's worth repeating that the airlines will NOT let your check your bags or board until you can prove that you have registered. When I got to Medellin the line for customs took over an hour. However, I enjoyed the service on JetBlue far better, outstanding entertainment movies, music and Direct TV at no extra charge. There are snacks that are free they had a pantry you could get all you want. You might want to get a sandwich before you board they don't serve meals per se.
