Hi Guys,
Off to Cartagena and Medellin for the first time next year (July) and am curious as to how this is policed? I assume they just charge you 100k on entry to LDV then?
What percentage of girls speak English in places like LDV would you say?

For us guys who make regular (or for me. Semi regular) trips to monger, price is important because you need to get the most for your money, and yes some complain because when guys do not know better or do hot care how much they spend, it sets a precedence for girls to ask for more money, but in your case if you put it in perspective, you had a great experience for your money.

English speakers are very slim and none.
Suggestion if you do not speak spanish is for you to change your destination, or go to directly to Medellin and stay at the Gringo house. (Medellin Plaza or El Castillo)

Was in Cartagena two weeks ago. One of the touts outside Tu Candela said Elektra was closed. A couple of chicas confirmed that it was closed again a couple of weeks before. What is up with this place?

We're definitely going to Cartagena, so I guess we'll have to learn basic spanish. Shouldn't be too difficult with 9 months to go. We went to Fortaleza without any Portuguese, so I guess it will be fine. There's only so much you can say before you ride her silly anyway.
We head to Medellin for 5 days, after 5 days in Cartegena.

His trips are illusions.[/QUOTE]I agree I am new to ISG but have been going to Cartagena since 2006 4 trips a year. Not many girls at LDV speak English some a word or two. I have only ran across very few that speak good English. I would say you need some basic Spanish skills but the more Spanish you learn the better trip you will have. Don't thik you are going to a resort area that will have English speaking staff to help you. Not the case.

I just do not want you getting incorrect information, as very very veryyyy few girls in Colombia speak english, and those that do only know a few words for the most part.
You are not obligated to purchase any drinks in LDV if you do not want to. The policy is if you decide to actually take a girl out of LDV you have to show at least a 100, 000 peso bar bill. If you and your two friends take 3 girls out, you will have to have a bar bill of 300, 000 pesos, unless things changed from my last visit, which was very recent. The girl can leave LDV at any time, and you can then meet her moments later outside of LDV if you so choose, you just cannot physically leave with her at the same time.
I might add, I hope you and your friends have deep pockets, because if you like to party in the bars/discos, Cartagena is very expensive, not to mention the girls asking for 200,000 to 400,000 pesos and getting it. You are at a very big disadvantage not being able to speak Spanish. Might want to consider a place like the Sosua in the Dominican Republic, or Costa Rica, where there are more English speakers. You might also consider Medellin which in my opinion has the most beautiful girls in all of Colombia along with Cali. There is much more information here on the board about Medellin than any other place. The Medellin Plaza, and the bar La Cueva sounds like it would be a perfect situation for you and your friends, and Medellin is much cheaper. If I was in your shoes I would just spend all my time in Medellin. There are several day trips you can take from Medellin that will break up your time there since you would be there for 10 days.

You speak Spanish so you don't know but try to pretend that you don't speak a lick of Spanish and all of a sudden these Colombiana's know enough English to close a sale. I'm not saying that a lot know fluent English, but you'll find a few. You'd be surprised at how many know Hebrew. Hanging out with so many gringos, many LDV chicas have picked up some English.

That threesome on my first night was one of the best nights of my life but I hadn't given too much details because I was planning on repeating the same deal a few days later, but to no avail as I kinda got hustled again. I realise I might cause an inflation of prices for other guys, so apologies.

You would probably need a girl to speak English to hang out and have few drinks at a place like LDV and somehow I did find 3 girls that did speak English in 1 week, but that might have been lucky. The alternative is what I did on my final night, sit outside LDV for a while and go to a girl, say hello, sit down with her at the bench, ask price and off you go. In my case it was 2 girls again, they guessed some English words, I guessed some Spanish words, had some silly laughs, wham bam thank you ma'am.
