Hi ShadyGray, Let's see if I can be of any help.
I've been lurking the forums for several years, but I've only posted in the Tiajuana forums under a different name. I decided to take a more active role for this trip to Lima. What I've gleamed so far:
Lima can be safe with a basic level of alertness and not making yourself a target. I have some concerns because I'm a tall white dude, I scream 'I'm not from around here' so I'll just not wave my cell phone at random scooters passing by. Should be enough, right? I'll probably not get drunk and walk through parque Kennedy on my stumble back to the air bnb.
Yes, Lima can be safe with a basic level of alertness and not making yourself a target. Street crime rates are medium-high but I can't say that they are worse than at any other metropolis, Of the big cities I've visited, I feel safer in Lima than in New York, Hamburg Ciudad de Mexico but I guess it's simply that I grew up in Lima and I'm used to it. I've worked in several really dangerous cities in Peru like Chimbote, Callao or Cerro de Pasco and, in the 50 years I've been working and living in Peru, I have never been robbed. What I always recommend to friends and colleagues is: Walk with purpose, be alert and act as if you have every right to be there. Having a wingman or wingmen helps, especially in the more shady neighborhoods, but it is not necessary in the more residential districts.
Mongering: deciding between the kines websites posted on this forum and the SW screen. I like window shoping but that's a risk. Could seem fun on the sidewalk then a dead fish in the st hotel (cringe). The Jockey thing seems like a good idea too. I prefer a GFE / PSE and that's a risk with the kines websites, box of chocolates and all that. Chongo's seem like a quantity over quality thing, not sure about that and the time commitment for traveling to and from make it a turn off. We'll see if I get bored enough to try it out.
There is no window shopping in Lima but the same concerns apply to kines websites. Jockey16 is always a good option but, of course, that comes at a price (totally worth-it IMHO).
The thing about chongos is that you must commit a whole afternoon to the adventure to make it worth the effort. I don't like chongo girls but I've been at most big ones in Lima several times, usually as a wingman to a fellow forist; I have yet to meet a forist (not Peruvian I mean) who hasn't liked and enjoyed the visit. You get to the chongo, check all the girls available, go to the bar and get a beer (or a coke), watch the girls coming and going, maybe watch a striptease dance, maybe chat at the bar with some of the girls if you want, make another round to see new girls (that were busy during your first round) maybe bang one and go back to the bar. Repeat as many times as you like, it is just too cheap. You can also plan to get there right before the shift change, so you get to see the girls of both shifts and be the first of the day to a girl of the late shift, so you find her clean, willing and not tired. Yes, chongos are a matter of quantity over quality, but you must take into account that there are several cultural differences that lead to us having different tastes in women. From my experience, there are several girls working at chongos who are not considered particularly attractive by local guys but who are found quite pretty and sexy by my foreign friends. You will find here several posts from forists who have visited chongos in Lima, who report being surprised by the quality of some of the girls they found there.
My spanish is mediocre at best, but I can usually figure things out. Staying in Miraflores, I think. There's other options but it seems like that's the path of least resistance. There tons of stuff to do in the mornings and early afternoon. Early evenings after dinner Venice spa then back to miraflores before it gets late.
It sounds like a very smart plan, you should be alright. Just be aware of petty thieves, pick-pockets and scammers targeting tourists, as you would in any touristic area anywhere in the world.
Only a couple questions: Is there a hourly motel in Miraflores to get a room at to meet up with girls if my airbnb turns out to be strict no visitors? I see a couple in Lince but I couldn't tell for other districts.
I've never used hourly motels in Miraflores, living in Lima and having a car I'd rather choose an out-of-the-way hotel for my mongering but, checking in a local forum that I trust, I've found several recommendations:
- Hotel Pacifico. It is almost in the limit of Miraflores with San Isidro, so not within walking distance from the center of Miraflores located in Av. Paseo de La Republica 4128, just three blocks from Av. Arequipa, it is easy to get there by public transportation. It is a well-known hotel for mongering and offers the basic at a reasonable price.
- Hotel Fantasy Suites. Also in the limit of Miraflores with San Isidro but in the opposite end, in Av. Del Ejercito 1241. Not cheap but good. As a reference, this is the hotel that I used for the sex parties but they changed administration and the new guys didn't want orgies to be held at their hotel.
- Hotel Tenaud, in Carlos Tenaud 119. Within walking distance from Parque Kennedy.
- Hotel Grimaldi, in Av. Arequipa 3964. Also in the limit with San Isidro, three blocks away from Hotel Pacifico mentioned a few lines above.
- Hotel Sol & Luna, in Av. Angamos Este 285, corner with Av. Tacna. Good reviews, supossedly BBB (Bueno, Bonito why Barato).
I might find some more looking around but take into account that I've never used any of those hotels for mongering. In fact my favorite hotels for that are in San Miguel and in LOS Olivos.
Has anyone cruised megaplaza area for SWs? Seems like things start up their earlier in the day and I could leave the area before it gets to late and I haven't read much about it being cleared out by PD like Lince. Any input or advice would be appreciated. I'll post reports about my trip after it happens.
I have. There are several hourly hotels in the vicinity that I've used so I've scouted the area, more out of curiosity than for actually looking for a girl (I distrust street walkers). Most of the girls in that area are managed by Venezuelan pimps who won't like you "wasting their girl's time" by asking several girls and not closing the deal with any. My advice would be to scout the area, look if there are some girls that appeal to you but avoid engaging in conversation with girls you know in advance that you won't bang. It doesn't mean that you have to take the first girl you ask, just look alert and you should not run into trouble. And, if you start getting angry looks, just leave and come back at another occasion. This advise is good for any SW area in Lima and anywhere in the world at that.
Hope you have a nice trip and enjoy your time in Lima.
J. J.
