There's 3 bar complexes, Laguna with the nightclub Club Zhu at the back, Gilbis Plaza and Banana Plaza opposite each other.
Then there's bars spread out all over the area, mostly standalone like Ole, or clustered together like around Stumble Inn and other areas.
So, where was it that you ended up in Rawai?

All your reports were very helpful in planning this trip! As for Rawaii, I was in the complex with pleasuredome playing pool. That's the area I meant was all under one roof. Sorry for the confusion there. I saw Club Zhu but it was dead. Looked cool though. It was also before midnight on a Wednesday.
Everyone definitely has their own opinions and fav spots. I just think people are a little too negative overall. My main point is that you can definitely find whatever it is you want in Phuket. Pattaya just has LOTS more, but you can only bang so much. I didn't enjoy much else in Pattaya other than the food and sheer volume of hot women. Phuket is a vacation with mongering, Pattaya is a mongering vacation!

That complex in Rawai would be Laguna, a great place from 8-9 pm each evening, after 9 pm the quality freelancers start to roll in, and the vibe picks up a lot.
Before then it's just the employed bargirls, and there are always quite some stunners there, just lower numbers and more competition from the tourists and locals.
As to Club Zhu, it is quiet most nights until around 1 am and later, it then gets going through until 3-4 am as the freelancers, bar girls and massage girls roll in.
Much like what is the case at Illuzion and the other Bangla Road Patong nightclubs.
