And, your opinion is probably quite true in a lot of cases (although not all) with the upper classes. The middle class pretenders to HiSo-ness (the PAD lot) were more who I was talking about. Of my HiSo Thai friends and acquaintenances, I'd say almost none ever speak Thai with me, or around me. But, I'd also say that those where I work are almost all VERY HiSo, foreign educated and yet, are also xenophobic, ultra right-wing, nationalist Nazis.

A/ She was my student, we were in a foreign country and I was responsible for her. Therefore it was neither professional or ethical for me to even consider it, as tempting as it was.
If I had "tapped her", I'd have been fired, if found out. Also, given the nature of Thai women and the fact that this girl is higher than HiSo, and comes from a very powerful family, I only saw the possibility of long-term disaster for a bit of short-term pleasure.
One doesn't need to tap everything in sight. I'm not 20. I actually enjoy the moments of quiet affection and the fantasy of "what if", with this girl. It's probably better than the reality of what the shag might be like.

As far as I am concerned, I have a MUCH better time creating a fun sexy mood with any of my partners in Thailand simply by speaking Thai. Thirdly, and just an aside, I go to Singapore a lot. One of my closest friends and clients there is 1/2 Thai and 1/2 Chinese, he pulls down something on the order of $3 million a year, that's $250K a month (for those arithmetically challenged) I would consider him HiSo, but he never ever puts on those fucking AIRS like the Thais do. We speak Thai with each other when we don't want the other Chinese guys to understand what we are saying, invaluable for us both, and creating an air of a pair of Internationalists at work, which we, in fact, are.
Now, here in Phuket, there are lots of Germans, Norwegians, and Brits, most of them don't speak a word of Thai. The Thai people here are totally confused by this, and consider those that don't even try to speak the language to be parasitic and incompetent. Old Thai guy here: "He has rented my house for 12 years and still can't even talk about anything at all in my language. Why is that?"
I therefore have to say, if you live here and you don't speak Thai, you are doing yourselves and your Thai neighbors a great disservice. Further, you probably aren't making as much money as you could be either. In other words, your concept of not "going native" is robbing you of 'random reality life experiences', and most probably making damn sure that you can't possibly make any serious money here without being the underling slave of some foreign corporation.
