Thanks!
The best place to start is where you arrive. People usually arrive here at Manila, Angeles & Cebu. Since you are posting your question on International SEX guide we could be forgiven for assuming you are looking for a vacation that includes sex. Look in the Manila, Angeles & Cebu threads for hints about places to go. Not hard really.
Cheers
I believe there is a money changer 24 hours...most international airports have one. Or as suggested use the ATM either way. You can also get a few thousand pesos in Hong Kong/Taiwan/where ever your layover is. They have international money changers also.
You'll get the best rate from an ATM though :)
The money changer in the HK airport gave me 34 pesos to the USD the other day. Stick with the ATM'S.

G'damn thats terrible....
Heading to Manila for a few weeks shortly. Been to Bangkok a few times and want to experience a different country for comparison.
For my first week I plan to stay in a hotel on or near Burgos St. to take in all the action there. Then for the 2nd week I'll switch to a hotel close to EDSA. I'll keep my 3rd week open for now. Is this a reasonable plan, or is it better just to choose one hotel and take a taxi everywhere that's not within walking distance?
Anyone know of hotels other than the City Garden that have both in-room internet and room safe? From my searching most have one or the other but not both.
Are the bars along Roxas Blvd. within walking distance of the EDSA complex? LA Cafe? Is it safe to walk between these mongering hubs? I cannot find a map of Makati/Pasay that would indicate how far each of these areas are from each other.
Is there a pharmacy in Manila that sells Cialis without a prescription? If not, is there a clinic that gives out prescriptions?
Sim cards are available in all the shopping malls, correct?
Thanks for your help,
MC.
That's a long time to be in Manila. If you are going to be in the Burgos St. area, just to let you know the bar fine is 3000 and the girls expect 3000 also so that's pretty expensive. However two MP's, Palacio Don Pedro and Phoenix are close by which will set you back around 1500 for the girl and 1500 for the room or a little more depending on time of day. I don't think the girls around Burgos are much better looking than the girls at Edsa. The bar fine at Edsa is 1500 and the girls ask for 2500 but you can get most down to 2000 if not a little lower.
As for hotels, it just depends what you want to do during day. Traffic can be pretty bad in Manila. If you stay around Burgos St, then you are close to the Greenbelt and Glorietta malls. If you stay at City Garden, you are close to Robinson's. I usually use www.asiahotels.com or www.asiarooms.com to check for amenities. What is your budget?
Burgos area is definitely safe to walk around at night and as long as you are cautious, its fairly safe to walk from LA Cafe to your hotel close by. I usually stay at the Pan Pacific and it's not a long walk.
I'm pretty sure you can get cialis or viagra without a prescription and if not, there are always guys trying to sell it on the street. Can't be sure if they are real or not though. Also not sure about safety so I would recommend the pharmacy. You can get a sim card at 7/11 as soon as you land.
Also have you considered Angeles City? I didn't think I was going to enjoy it but it was really fun because I was with a bunch of guys. The bar fines there are around 1300 and if you give the girl 500 in the morning, she'll be happy. This is for LT and most girls will stay with you the next day until they have to go to work. I think that's a great bargain compared to BKK. The girls are more GFE than PSE like BKK.
Have fun!!!

Is currently running a P-zero special to many destinations. You still pay the taxes / surcharges, but the price is cut in half. Smoke 'em while you got 'em.
Anyone coming in on Cathay Pacific arrive 955am and want to share ride to AC. Shoot me pm.

MC.
Here is a decent map of manila:
http://www.bfhomes.net/metro_manila_map.htm
Notice where the Taft Ave and Un Ave intersect is roughly the LA Cafe area. In my opinion this area is very dirty and run down. While the mongering at LA cafe is out of this world, that part of town is not very good to stay in.
My opinion i would stay in Makati only. EDSA and Burgos are only 10-15 mins by taxi and La Cafe is not much more. The bars on Roxas Blvd for the most part are a waste of time. There is nothing there that you cant get for half the price at Burgos, LA cafe or EDSA. Best bang for the buck is EDSA. A good hotel in Makati is Somerset Salcedo. This is an apartment style hotel with a 4 star rating and daily maid service. At any rate i would not stay near Roxas/EDSA, think the dirtiest place in the world and that is what the area around there is like.

Nice map thanks very useful. Would also comment (as I have and other have) that if you go to LA Cafe and get a taxi late and night to Burgos etc, beware of police scams - see earlier posts. I got caught in one, it was OK once driver told them I knew diplomats but you are warned MC to be careful.
See earlier reports for useful advice on how to avoid this problem.
Was in Ermita late March/early April and stayed at City State Towers about 2 blocks from LA Cafe. Price was about 1,900 a night for superior room with cable, AC, large bathroom, frig and phone. Clean, good security and no complaints.
Bus leaves there for trips to Puerto Galera at 8:00 a.m. daily. Takes you to Batangas then from Batangas by boat to Puerto Galera. Bus and boat prices are very reasonable. You but the bus ticket right there in the lobby of City State.

Upon returning to Manila, again at City State. No complaints again. Expect to be in MNL again next month and will again stay there.
PS: Free breakfast until 10:00 a.m.
Going to be getting into AC on June 7th in the mid afternoon and hanging out until afternoon of the 11th before heading to Manila for a few days.
I need to head to Garfields when I first get in to see some old ex-pat friends of mine but if anyone is in town and wants to go out to have a few when I am in town send me a PM and we can set something up, otherwise I will probally be found in Roadhouse or Champagne most of the time.
Same goes for Manila will be there 11-14th, staying at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Malate/ Ermita area if anyone wants to go throw down a few drinks.
If anyone is around from the 8th and wants to hook up for a barhop let me know. I'll be camped in the Lewis Grand until i get bored!
Hmmm, interesting theory. What do you do to combat jet lag? I tend to take longer holidays, but that is not always possible for me -- and probably for a lot of people reading this.
The first time I visited Asia was courtesy of a US Naval vessel. Not much jet lag on that trip.
** Yet another reason not to eat airplane food.
