A final count should be had by wednesday and there will be a run off election on november 26th.

OK, as I felt the need to check up on my own word I passed by Cheers today. It is open and the friday afternoon police-show seems to be related to the prohibition of alcohol-sale 24h before the election.

On that topic I don´t think Nightcats is closed, I only mentioned seeing it closed friday before the election, and I assume therfore taht it was only for those 24h prior to the elction to avoid getting unneccesary attention! (The sign BTW say KAT I checked it today ;-))

A few airlines are sparring in the NYC area. The cheapest I found was Copa, connecting in Panama city. About $310 total all in. AA and LAN may have similar deals. Copa was the cheapest that I saw, however. You can book out up to 330 days in advance.

Similar deals to Guayaquil too.

I checked booking three days in advance on Copa, Nyc to Quito $305!

It looks like Continental is going to match this fare of NYC, so that fare should be "live" in the next couple of hours. I'm not sure how long it will last, but this does seem to be a very good deal.

I was shocked to see those prices. I prefer the flight pattern of LAN airlines myself. They go from nyc direct to guayaquil unload the plane for an hour and then on to quito. It's almost a direct flight for $457. 8 hrs in total

I checked AA and yes for $319 your good to go but with a 3/4 hr layover in miami which could be more if it rains that evening. I'm getting sick of hectic changeovers. I'd rather pay a little more.

If I'm not mistaken, flights from the US to Ecuador appear to be the cheapest than to any other South American country. Please tell me otherwise if this isn't true. I'd love some affordable flights to Brazil and/or Argentina. Those prices are almost near what it costs to go from Quito to just across the border to Peru, Columbia, or Venezuela!

BTW, has anyone ever had any luck using [b][u]faremax.com[/u][/b] ? I've gotten great prices quoted with a 2-3 week advance purchace promise, however when I tried to buy ticket at this site, it became a big headache with all the technical gliches. I wound up going to a travel agency to get it done. I think the agency used the same system since the price was the same except for the added service fee.

It seems to be pretty affordable to me. So as long as you want to go to Ecuador it's fine. As I'm sure you're aware the intra-South American flights can be real expensive. Often it's cheaper to fly through US and back to SA!
