My First Trip Sunday 3/19
Hello all,
I've been a lurker on these forums for about two months, reading up on the tips / tricks / info while waiting on my passport card. Well, I got my passport card last week and today was my 1st venture into wilds of Tijuana. So here is my first impression on a trip outside the states.
Gear check:
Modified Jeans: On back of the waist, inner side, I made a cut to provide hiding spots for get home money. On the inside of the jeans, behind the small pocket, I cut the fabric to provide another pocket. Hard to explain, but if you look at the inside of your jeans, you'll see rivets on the right side, I just cut a slit there. It's big enough to fit my DL and a few bills.
Modified Outter shirt: I cut a slit at the back / collar and stuffed some bills there. Again, more of an insurance that I had money to get home. Left pocket was full of ones folded in half and stacked on top of each other with the fold on top for easier removal. Left side was filled with 5's folded the same way and 20's that were folded into quarters.
Modified Inner Shirt: Not much of a modification, all I did was took a pocket tee and add Velcro to to the pocket so that it would close. My passport card and ID went here.
My keys, I used some cording to make a lanyard and looped the lanyard to my belt and placed the keys inside my jeans. Condoms and Wet Ones individual packet wipes and extra money were stored in an Eagle Creek Undercover Pocket that I bought on Amazon.
The Trip:
Early morning:
I drove down 805, took the last exit and parked in the border station $25 for the day. Walked across the bridge and just followed the crowd. At the checkpoint building, I'm not sure of the name, I paid $27 for the 6 months tourist visa. Hopefully this will speed up the entrance / check-in on future trips. When I was leaving the visa checkpoint building, um, I was not prepared. I've dealt with homeless people in downtown San Diego, but this was on a different level. Sorry, I've never left the USA and this was a shock to the system. I was numb.
After that experience, I arrived at the taxi stands. Following the advice from the forums, I pretty much ignored the taxis that were up front since they were trying to direct me into the back seat. I found a driver near the back of the pack, negotiated for $5 to HK and checked the windows / doors before I got in the front seat. And off we went.
The Drive there was. . . interesting.
The Club:
I arrived at around 11:00 am once I was patted down, I immediately went and got a VIP card for $50. My Tijuana name is Mickey Mouse. Yep. I got my free drink recipe when I got my VIP card and inside I went. Inside the club, it was perfect for me. Not crowded but not dead either. Ratio of guys to gals were about 1:1.

So in all, I think I spent about 10 minutes actually waiting in line. I was glad that the building had public restrooms at the exit.
Damage:
$25 parking.
$27 tourist visa.
$12 taxi.
$50 VIP.
$20 drinks.
I took $350 on this trip and only had my get home money left. My pockets probably had holes in them and my money fell out because I can't think of any other expenses.
I know that I wasn't min / maxing my dollars and I probably paid a bit more than normal but I don't believe that I vastly over paid and I had a great time with these lovely ladies of HK. Again, I want to thank everyone here that shared their experience to lurkers such as I. Sorry for the long post but I just had to share this day.
P.S. I noticed that a lot of girls had braces.

Two weeks before my 2017 trip the exchange rate was 19.67 where I purchased at a Currency Exchange biz. During my trip I went to a local bank on Revolution street. The exchange was 20.02 peso to 1 US dollar.
