It is a term generally used for people in Asia who gets high on the Ectasy pill and they shake their head to Canton Techno music. Just 4 or 5 days ago, there was a shooting case in the New Paragon in Danok. 2 dead, and 2 injured and now in hospital. Don't know who the shooter (s) are as still investigating. But those dead and injured are all females.

Imagine these are girls whom you have booked or whatever, itting in the same table as you.

Just to let fellow bros know and be careful whenever you are there as Danok is more "bo cheng hu" than other places in Thailand. Hey, it would really be disastrous to be shot as a bystander for other people's quarrel.

What in hell ever possessed you to bring your EWW to Thailand? That is the last thing you should do. Friends of mine who work here and have wifes back in the States make arrangements to meet them in exotic locations other than Thailand. I posted on the police raids on these brothels some years ago. They happened just after (hours after...) I visited the area.

Just a tidbit or two on Ubon Ratchathani, the largest town in the southeast of Isaan (near the Lao and Cambodia borders). The Pathumrat Hotel's semi-famous Long Beach soapy massage place is still going, from noon to midnight daily. It's a fishbowl spot, not unlike ones in Bangkok. They wanted B1800 for one girl but would do two at B2600. I didn't like the cost vs. selection at the time I went, but YMMV.

The Krung Tong Hotel also has a similar place, only they have something like a "shower massage" and different tiers of girl costs (i.e. the "super star" bit) at B1500, 1800 and 2100 quoted. (I should mention I definitely didn't have a taxi take me there for commission). They didn't seem to want to come down from that, at least, not easily. Also a low selection that particular night, but YMMV.

You won't find much obvious sanuk in Ubon, i.e. go-gos, upstairs karaokes with girls hanging around outside, or that sort of thing. Not enough farangs. A local or a tuk-tuk driver (tuk-tuks are still the taxis there, and there are even bicycle pedicabs!) could probably take you somewhere, maybe a ranch-type setup or downscale karaoke. Your odds in discos and places like that are very low because the girl can be seen by friends and family and probably won't go with a foreigner like she might in Bangkok or Pattaya.

Not a lot going on, but nice place to spend time. The markets, especially the night-market are fun and delicious, and there always seem to be elephants roaming around.

Your wife's mother may well live out in the sticks anyway which'll make it pretty much the same as anywhere in rural Issan.

what exactly are you interested in ?
Just have been in that area, been to Buriram, Surin, Kalasin and Yasothorn.

In case your have your own means of transportation you might want to visit places like Phanom Rung and Muang Tam (khmer ruines). You might also want to have a look at those elephant camps, where you can attend an elephant soccer match and the like. You could also drive down to or pass by Aran on your way to Buriram to visit the border market. Lots of very cheap clothes and some other stuff that you can buy as presents for the family. Will save you some bucks compared to BKK or the usual "Talat Nat".

I have attached a few pics of a decent hotel in Aran, the Aran Mermaid, in case you want to have a stop over. Price is 900b incl. breakfast AND dinner. Note the condoms on the pricelist.
There is another hotel up the highway, just 100m away from the Aran Mermaid. It's name is something like "Indochine Hotel". Haven't had a closer look at it, but looked quite ok to me.

As Coma already pointed out, the night-markets are nice and a good place to eat.
Even though mongering won't be on your list, it is possible. There are soapies and lots of cafes where you can pick girls (often the singers). Traditional massage is available as well, in case you might want to relax.
