My first trip to Latvia was about three years ago with my best friend. First of all we were very amazed by the beauty of the city and the women on the street, had fun partying and totally a really enjoyable time. Reading some of the older posts it seems latvia (at least for partying and meeting girls) has gotten even more difficult but if I go I'd like some advice:

a) Which are currently the best clubs/bars for foreigners to meet locals?
b) Which would be the most convenient 4-5 star hotel if travelling alone? (e.g. nice hotel bar, facilities etc.)
c) If all fails do you know any reliable escort agencies other than escortslatvia.com? (e.g. not as expensive)

I have been to Riga a lot since 2001 and can say it has changed a lot.
Currently, 1 lat beers everywhere. Apts in the 20 lat range and Radisson for 35. Its unusual. Of course if you want to pay 150 lat, its out there.

When I was in Riga last month I always felt that Latvian people don't like foreig visitors. I guess some foreigners (especially Brits) screw up things badly during the past few years. The desastrous economic condition also forces young people to leave this country. I don't know how Riga was some years ago, but now it is definitely not the place for freebie hunting.

Which clubs to meet locals? Not easy to answer. Well, I would try some bars in old town. Clubs like Essential and Rocca are just a waste of time.

Hotel? Try to find an appartment. Landlords are desesperate to find tenants for their empty appartments. If you are lucky you will get one for 20/30 Euro a day.

No idea about escort agencies, would recommend to keep away from them unless you have money to burn.

I have been in Riga a couple of weeks ago. First of all don't get worried about all the rip offs and muggings. It's safe as long as you apply common sense, don't look like a rich asshole screaming to be robbed and stay away from the striptease bars.

So here my report.
