BTW: with the 1st runner I got in AC, I did go back to the bar and complain to the mama (although the runner was not there-perhaps she was having fun at the disco or sacking up with her sugardaddy-who knows). The mama just listen to what I had to say and did confirm she did hear me tell her the girl was suppose to stay until at least 9am. Bottom line, the mama just listen and did nothing. I do remember her saying it happens sometimes and she can't control the fact that her girl had to leave for "a personal emergency" and then she try to divert attention to me by saying maybe it was because I had done something wrong to her girl?.again, just putting the blame on me and excusing the girl. Sounded like the mama had some practice with runners and then not having to payback or waste her (and the girls) time. Also, during all this time, never even offer me a beer (being paid by me or for free).

So, when the 2nd girl bolted, I just said f*ck it and let her go and didn't bother to complain as I thought this was how business was done in AC.

Just a note, both bolters were from different bars. The 1st was from Cambodia bar and the 2nd was from Body Shop.

I just suspect that, like it or not, we're in the midst a major shift in the whole scene in AC. The new generation of girls just isn't as motivated to spend the whole night (or even to go with customers -- some seem quite content just to collect their little salaries and drink receipts). The mamasans are from a generation that took the all-night thing seriously, so they do get upset when the girls don't. But ultimately it's the girls who will shape the way things work, and the trend now seems clear. Exactly what we saw in Bangkok starting about 15 years ago, Pattaya about ten years ago, and now Manila too. Always seems to happen about the time bargirls start sporting nicer cellphones than their customers . . . .

The tide has turned and AC has a different flow to it now. Nothing stays the same forever.

Also, I hear lots of girls are working the internet these days and making more money than if they work in the bars. I bet that is one of the reasons for the decline of quality younger girls.

It's still not a bad spot to hang out in once in awhile, but there are better places in SE Asia to spend money in and get a bit more value.

AC is one of a kind. It is hard to find young unjaded hookers anywhere in one small street. And the bars take it very seriously to customer comfort, routine of their shows etc. In Pattaya they couldn't care less.
As I have seen in AC there is a constant turn around of fresh girls. Very few girls stay and work in AC bars more than a few years. The mamasans do a good job recruiting more girls from the countryside.
Anyway the old adage of once barfined stay with the customer till morning seems to have vanished. Now the girls have learned their rights under the invisible barfine law. They have also learned no customer or bar can legally force them to do what they do not want to do. Besides they can easily find a new job in another bar if the bar people fire her. Many have found sponsors and quite happy to get regular salary plus an occassional barfine to satisfy their needs but they are very picky who they choose. Now it is important that the mongers be very nice to the girls they barfine and will be rewarded. AC girls are still non-dicriminatory about age,height, weight, national origin.

the jeepneys that left me on fields and mccarth., in the end i still have to take the dreadful trike to my hotel. that's why i just wanted to know if there was a jeepney from dau that went to the other end of fields.

angeles city, philippines – the entire force of the criminal investigation and detection group (cidg) in this city has been relieved effective today amid allegations of frame-ups and extortion of operators of tourism-oriented businesses here.

chief superintendent leon nilo de la cruz, cidg chief based at camp crame, told the star that he has relieved chief inspector randy glenn silvio and the other cidg personnel here from their posts after foreigners and other local investors, who have grown tired of the extortion, sought the help of mayor edgardo pamintuan.

“i ordered their relief pending their investigation and they will all be replaced immediately,” de la cruz said.

citing reports, pamintuan said among the recent victims were the managers of a bar who were allegedly asked by cidg men to shell out p600,000 so they would not be charged for supposedly employing minors.

pamintuan asked de la cruz to investigate reports that the local cidg men recently staged “raids” on bars to allegedly extort from their owners.

he cited one case wherein cidg men raided a nightspot a day after one of their “assets” convinced the bar manager to employ a girl who turned out to be under 18 years old.

during the raid, the cidg men cited the employment of the **** girl as basis for a criminal complaint against the bar, but offered not to file any charge in exchange for a considerable amount of cash.

pampanga first district rep. carmelo lazatin, for his part, said he has been receiving reports on the extortion activities of local cidg men for over a year now.

he said one of the victims was his korean friend who was allegedly fleeced by the cidg men of his rolex watch, another watch worth p300,000 and a complete golf set.

“i urged the victims to file formal complaints, but despite my assurance that i would back them up, their fear for their safety prompted them to leave the country instead,” lazatin said.

In the aftermath of the tragi-comedy of the bus hijacking fiasco, the bottom has fallen out of the tourism sector here. Articles like this will provide additional nails in the coffin. It seems the greed, incompetence and pervasive corruption of virtually every sector of the country are finally coming to the attention of the world's public, and that the knowledge is no longer restricted to the donor governments. Who knows? Maybe the general public in this sad, failed country will finally cry "enough," and start to demand some radical change.

The other view is, they are hookers (as AV says), and I'm paying them specifically to perform evening, morning, and having breakfast with me. A $2 taxi discrepancy is not the same as a $40 girl who runs. Few gents understand that many bars have recourse for this kind of thing. I too have girls that stay longer than expected (my runners are rare). However, as I sit at Kokomos and have lunch, I'm hearing more gents complain about runners (never heard that 5 years ago). A few more anal complaints might slow it down some. YMMV.

The Philippines need to get rid of 2 things:

the Catholic church and the seven families (very closely tied together). They need a revolution.

Not easy to precipitate any sort of sustained political action in a country of 7,000+ islands, when those 85 million or so residents who do not live in Manila, are largely indifferent to what transpires there. I think the number of families controlling 90+ percent of the country's wealth is actually closer to 250 than to seven, but I guess it doesn't really matter. As to eliminating the church, I think when you're abysmally poor, with little hope for the present life, the church, as corrupt as it is, may be the only solace for lots of people.
