Other day I've met a sweet and beautiful 19 yo Vennie with great rack in Centro after 9 pm. Never saw her before in there. She tells me 50 mil for 1 h. BBBJ included? Yes. (Are you new)?

I gave up further questioning for a while trying to process this confusing information. I'm still not sure whether I didn't misunderstand something, it makes no sense, maybe she charges her 200 mil daily (which is still a lot) or she's lying or not explaining it right.

- No, nothing left usually, I have debts to pay my jefa. (She chuckled and shrugged with resignation).

- This bar you are working at, you have clients there?

- Yeah, clients and they also have us tested, so don't worry. My jefa is here in Centro and watching with whom I go with and for how long. There are other girls in my group here too that she is watching. That's how things work.

While explaining all this she remained surprisingly positive. Then she sighs and slumps staring at the floor, changing the tone, saying she doesn't want to go out there anymore and got sad. Gave her a hug. She collected herself shortly and put a cheerful face back on.

- Well OK, I would like to stay but have to go out to look for clients, they don't like us go overtime and not working, don't forget about me, hope to see you soon.

Well, with less hurried conversation maybe I would be able to make more sense out of it, I didn't feel like she's lying at all, she tried to explain things, repeated and clarified patiently when I asked, but many things make no sense.

Whatever contract she signed at 18, isn't probably legal and her naivety / ignorance seems to be getting exploited with some made up rules and arbitrary incurred 'debts'. Looks like an organised enterprise. Protective of her breasts sicne it's their 'property' and investment and one of this girl' greatest assets. The nice working clothes are provided to her by them. Accommodation probably too I guess, since she said she pays 100 mil for a month.

Not sure if I should even session with her again if they are going to incur an instant debt for that on her, have to try to clarify that next time I'll see her, since it makes no sense.

You just got to tell her upfront that "it's for your security and if something bad happens to you while you're with her, she will be held responsible" or something along those lines. Also, letting her know that your hotel has her identification gives you leverage in worst case scenario. Now, if you mention that to her upfront and she refuses to give you her identification for whatever BS excuse that she will make up then it only means she is plotting something bad to you and you just moved on to the next one.

If she's just someone trying to make extra cash, giving her identification shouldn't be a problem right away. You can never let your guard down in Medellin especially nowadays and always got to think with the big head.

I'm really starting to think going back to Colombia would be an irrational roll of the dice for me, even though nothing unsafe happened. At least not yet. Going there instead of a safer Latin American country is probably thinking with the little head, as well as penny-wise but pound-foolish. Can find Colombians in other LA countries, just a bit more expensive.

She was working out of the apartment with her female overseer in another room. She was brought over to the States and owed some people some money, the people that you can't say 'no' to, and she said was basically working out her debts. Similar yearning reaction when I mentioned BF. Totally slaveowner & slave situation. I met someone else few years ago in the hotel who from what she told me appeared in the similar situation.

As for this girl's contract in Venezuela I bet her family sold her. I bet if she brings up legalities or decides to jet there'd be a hell to pay for people back home and she'd be dissected alive if she's ever caught + the person who helped her won't survive either. Be careful with your 'monger save a ho' desires here if you're thinking (or rather feeling) in that direction. These are very bad and very resolute people you'd be dealing with with zero scruples. Even if you somehow manage to succeed initially which is highly unlikely and would require some seriously detailed advance planning you'd be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life.

My experience with Avianca last month was they paged any passenger who did not check in with an agent before going through TSA. They asked for passport, check mig, and return ticket or cedula. YMMV but why chance it?

Before the pandemic a guy was found dead in a short time plant in Raudal. I can't remember whether or not he was a foreigner. He was seen entering the place on CCTV with a a guy who left alone a short time later.

Sometime before boarding they will call out your name or just walk up to you if you are an obvious gringo like me and ask. This was Copa airlines.

That's the point of all these posts on this website complaining about the large numbers of foreign men coming to Medellin and ruining Medellin. I think it's likely that the increase in crimes against gringos is partly in due to the large increase of gringos visiting Medellin but I could be wrong.

A lot of doom and gloom around here.

I mean Medellin hasn't been a secret for a long time. The pandemic created a lot of pent-up travel demand. It will even out.

As far as crime. Well duh, you're in a country where, if uneducated, you're lucky to make $10 a day and even if educated, $20 a day is doing pretty good. I don't pay attention to a lot of the crime because frankly it can happen anywhere but obviously in a place like Colombia your awareness needs to be elevated.

Learn Spanish, take an interest in your surroundings, blend in, and don't walk around "solo" places after dark and you'll eliminate 95% of the risk. If you just come down with your "bros" for the weekend and all you do is talk to each other in English everywhere you go with your watches and phones out then of course you're going to attract negative attentioy.

I will say that although I think things haven't really changed that much, every time I go down now all I see are groups of "bros". It's not like they weren't there before, but they seem more comfortable with themselves so more and more are going at a time now. Also the number of fake ads and flaky women is ridiculously higher in Medellin than my experiences in Cartagena. Women are also less responsive on Tinder than they used to be. You'll get matches, but they won't respond. Negotiating is a necessity now too whereas it was a lot easier before. I don't think things were necessarily better in the pandemic or before but like I said I think a combination of an influx of the "bros", pent up travel demand, and global inflation is making it harder.
