Unless you could verify any of this information, she may just be feeding you some lies to make herself look worth the price. That you were getting a bargain by seeing her in El Centro while others are paying a lot more. I've had girls tell me a lot of things and I always take it with a grain of salt. Recently, I went to a restaurant in Orlando and I kept thinking about how much better the dish tasted than the average dish I get in Antioquia.

Colombians are on average small people and they may believe that they can more easily control someone of smaller stature. Also regarding drugging. If they give a small person the same dose which they give to larger people, it may be fatal. However I don't think that anyone is immune to crime in Medellin. A gun is the great equalizer.

They are not exactly delicious to most foreigners.

You can go to any supermarket in Medellin, you will find that the varieties of ingredients like vegetable, spices and seasoning are extremely limited when compared to US, or Brazil. That contributes to the limited taste in their food and what is available in the restaurant

The pricing part is nothing out of the ordinary either, that's how much they charge in Poblado and she quoted standard Centro price so no surprise here. The doscientos usd was apparently paid because they guy assumed the quote is usd not pesos. It's the rest of the personal stories she had told me (I haven't mentioned half of it, like the part she's bi now and raising her kid with a lesbian girlfriend who's been a tomboy, but now grew up her hair, wears high hills, makeup and is also a prepago) I might have potential issue with, but considering she's was pretty high on tussi, oversharing heavily and answering questions without any time to think or hesitation, it seemed to me she's telling the truth. Truth or lie, I didn't really care either way, she was a random person but I enjoyed talking and listening, it's an entertainment for me and a chance to practice Spanish. If she made all that up then I congratulate her on vivid imagination, creativity and ability to lie convincingly without incongruencies.

As you alluded to, the food tends to be bland. Who's coming to Medellin for "chicharron, mocilla, arepa. " My GF eats that kind of food every day and I eat it when she makes it out of respect, but the food is wack (see pic).

I cook most of my meals and I will say Colombia, in general, gets credit for good quality food in terms of less pesticides and good soups, fruits, coffee and being less costly than the USA, but when you factor in the travel and lodging costs of Medellin, I can't see people solely coming here because they can go to Crepes & Waffles, Mondongos or even a steak place. The guy used Barcelona as a reference point, but I've never been blown away by the food in Spain. The food is OK, but when I think of food places, I think of spots like Thailand, Mexico, New Orleans, etc. But yeah, obviously a meal at a restaurant in Medellin will cost less than the USA.

You're probably dreaming on that one. Colombia has the latest in agricultural technology, and most likely allows things that would no longer be allowed in the US for example.

There is probably an IFG site with blokes discussing establishments with good quality food and good service or cheap establishments, with their own price police with dudes criticizing food mongers who pay more for certain dishes or visit high end restaurants, or probably not.
