I have been hitting the dating sites for my trip next month. Mainly Filipino Cupid. These girls seem much more desperate than the Thai girls.
Many very attractive girls sending me messages. I had 100 interests in the first 2 days.
There are some scams though. I have seen 2 model quality girls listed under several different people. Probably stolen photos being used.
Then, there are the girls that want to chat. I have had 6 very attractive (from the photo) tell me they are Filipino but are in Ghana with their sick mother and need help. WTF? Am I that stupid?
Then, the very atttactive ones that after a few contacts ask for money.
But 90% seem legit. Some very attractive girls willing to meet me. Many more than Thailand sites.

One of the reasons I prefer FC is that they / you can post more than one photo and I always have a baseline suspicion of the profiles with only one pic. But maybe I'll start chatting up more of the one pic pinays and look them up next time I'm in Ghana. Most of the internet cafes are chok full of young dudes every time I walk by one in Accra.

Planning to visit the PI in late March, but I wanted some recommendations from frequent visitors on stuff other than nightlife. Having a hard time planning because all the best, most famous stuff is really far apart, and everything I research transport, everything is a 12 hour bus ride. No trains. I think that I would cut my own wrists on any bus ride longer than 3 hours. So if I am going to coup myself up in an iron coffin, I want to know if it is worth it.
The Rice Terraces up north. Was thinking about spending a day hiking hiking from Banue to Batad. But the bus ride seems really hard, and nothing else to see or break up the trip along the way. Seems like a long way to go for one day. Worth it?
Donsol. Whale shark snorkelling. This is really what is attracting me to the Phils. And I can fly to Legaspi. Seems like I would have to dedicate a few days to ensure that I would get lucky at least once. Worth it?
Bacuit and Palawan . Far off the main path and no nightlife. But the pictures are "The Beach"-esque and gorgeous. Worth it?
Those are the main three. Also thinking surfing in Siargao, but that's much lower on the list.

It looks like the Wale Shark snokeling is seasonal and there are rules regarding swimming with them.

I've been to Palawan a few times and its great for snorkeling, diving and exploring. I brought a girlfriend with me but there is a recent field report about p4p in Coron.

Thanks![/QUOTE]Bus ride is OK if no unexpected events such as land slides (which in our case added 8 hours to the trip) and if you manage to sleep in a bus (I do).
The actual trip to Batad is among the high points in my life. I thought it was fabulous and well worth the hardship of the bus ride. Guess it's all a matter of personal preferences.

Per your stated aversion to long bus rides, would strike Banaue Rice Terraces from the list. In Donsol, I was fortunate to swim 4 or 5 times with the whale sharks during my one-day boat excursion but appears that sightings are hit / miss. My personal favorite has been Palawan and in particular, a 4 day. 3 night banka boat trip from El Nido to Palawan. Didn't score high re booty calls but better than other two destinations. You can "get your end wet" in Puerto Princessa, El Nido and Coron (My FR was cited in previous response to your post, plus I posted another FR re Coron alternative option to Hard Rock.)
Caveat: I've been able to measure my life-long global wanderings in multi-month segments. PI transportation infrastructure doesn't support quick scenery changes. My selection of Palawan is influenced by my attraction to tropical, aquatic settings and relatively uncrowded destinations.

I think the Thai girls have less time to be sitting around on the computer than Pinays.

My 'guide' refused to let me even think of heading up to Tabuk. And well, seriously, when I was walking around Banao, every other vehicle passing by stopped or slowed down to see who this stranger was. And my local friends said that they are all keeping an eye for strangers. NPA has had a profound effect on them it seems.
I may not invented sth but this is maby a good ideanif you don't like beeing stopped by beggars, small children wanting money, cialis salesmen, propertysalesmen and it like.
Ijust walk in the middle of the street where they can not reach you. Traffic moves so slowly anyhow so this have encountered no problem at all but ofcourse easiest if you walk towards traffic. Much more relaxing atleast in the neighbourhood of riviera mansion. I felt more safe walking here than on the narrow curbs with additional disturbance.

Its weird. On a map, sometimes things are only 100 miles apart, and yet when I research it, the transit time is 8 hours or more. In the US, that's 1. 5 hours on the highway. Moving from one point to the next always seems to take a day. It seems like just seeing 3-4 highlights in the PI will take 2 weeks or more. I know that travel books like Lonely Planet can hype things up. I can't imagine spending all that time on a bus just to be let down when I get there. That's why I wanted direct input from actual fellow travellers. I may have to dump the PI and focus my trip on just Malaysia, but I really want to see those whale sharks. The pictures are spectacular. I find it hard to imagine that as a let down.
BTW, what is the quality of these long distance buses? I assume that there is aircon. Are they spacious, or are you scrunched up shoulder to shoulder? Do they have toilets in the bus? Are they clean or gross? Are the seats comfortable enough to sleep in? I assume that its a modern bus and not one of those central american chicken buses.
I heard that many of the roads are bumpy. I imagine it would be hard to sleep. It must be terrible spending all night awake on a bumpy bus. It ruins your next day.

Thanks![/QUOTE]If you want a great diving location near Manila, you might consider Puerto Galera. It's only 3 hours away and the diving is as good as anything you will find in the Philippines. You take a bus to Batangas and then a ferry across to Sabang beach. The advantage is a small but very adequate nightclub scene there. The combination of girls and diving is unusual in Phils. It's much cheaper than highly developed locations like Bohol also. Just an idea.
