Currency exchange
I just read that you can get 1. 5 CUCs to the dollar now. Anybody on the ground there have any info on the street exchange rate?
I see the two big hotels, close to Melia Cohiba are almost complete from the outside.
Anyone seen the Miami Herald article, Trump reimposed restrictions of bringing back cigars and rum from Cuba. Nothing about actually traveling though.
I saw that article or a similar one. President said Americans also cannot stay at any government owned / run hotels. He doesn't want US dollars going to support the commie government.

Its safe
May not be the wisest way to do it. But it's your life.
I exchange with people I know who are 100% safe or in a bodega with the CUCs from their cash register, not from some random guy on the street but thanks for your concern.

But if you know who you are dealing with that may not be an issue.
We exchange on the streets All the Time, with folks we know, No WORRIES.
True that. Most people I know change on the streets too and never heard anyone getting trouble from that. There is also a whatsapp chat group in havana just for changing money. If you ask some of your friends and they are in that chat group, you can get the best rate in there. Before anyone ask further, the chat group is already full.

Cuba vote
I saw that article or a similar one. President said Americans also cannot stay at any government owned / run hotels. Anything he does that appears to be negative towards the Cuban government is a net plus in his view.

She posted a video about a year ago, some Russian dude took her to Moscow. She post another video (live chat) and people were sending her money left and right. Can Cubans even monetize a youtube video? Or even receive money from youtube? Maybe the money gets routed to Russia, hell I don't know but she has figured out how o get around the block. There's more here than meets the eye.
I don't blame you for PMing her, I would hit that all day!

Phase 0. 5 in Havana
Yesterday, the gov announced that theyre opening up havana again. No more toque de queda (lockdown)! Not sure how this will affect the daily spike of covid. If you ask me, they should at least extend it for another 15 days. They don't have the resources to cope with a bigger spike if it happends. Phase 0. 5 is my own definition since they didn't announce what phase are we at. Technically it is like phase 1 but a castrated version hence I call it phase 0. 5. Shops are back open, restaurants too, beaches and swimming pool are now back in business. Hopefully we can reach phase 3 in November so that the borders will reopen. Will keep you guys posted.
