And seriously, if you have a little money and are into a little more than notches on your belt (like nice beaches, good food, some shopping, safe travelling around and not worrying about being robbed, everyone on the street speaking english, no learning curve or having to travel miles between venues, etc.) , I would add a few other places as well as Medellin to your list.
But Mr Gault is a seasoned vet who has found what works for him after visiting a handful of places. I would suggest doing the same. Never been to Medellin? Come on down!
Me on vacation I would recommend also adding to your list Sint Maarten (SXM) or Curaçao which are both less expensive than CR but similar in a lot of ways. So I will use SXM in my comparison. Chicks on SXM are $45 a pop. That's it. The price is fixed where as in Medellin you can spend up to $90 in some of the higher end places. In SXM the super hot Colombian 9 or 10 is still the same price and does not switch venues to the higher end establishment that charges $90-$100, because there are no other establishment with a different price structure. The difference between all of them is like $5 bucks. How hard is it in Medellin to find the nice working 9 in La Mayorista or at a Centro strip club? Let's be honest here fellas.
Just like in CR, you can interact with the girls as these 7 places on SXM (all within 5-10 mins car ride of each other, some are right next to each other in walking distance) as all are open from 11AM to 3AM and the girls hang at these places as they are actual bars (like in CR) and not some back room behind a curtain waiting to come out and give a 5 second twirly dark handshake. Also the girls on SXM are from all over Colombia (Cali, Medellin, Bog, the coast, I even met exotic girls from Tuluá and Buga) and some are from the Dom Repub. They do not work in their home country and are on the island for 3 months some do 6. Less hardened pros than Medellin and CR. Although on month #6 some of these girls must be pretty stretched out!
There are tons of things to do on SXM like sports gambling, clubs, a super variety of nice restaurants low end and top notch (don't tell John Gault but there are 3 Itlalian restuarants to die for) , dance clubs and laid back lounges that don't have anyone carrying guns, real casinos with craps and sports and horse wagering, duty free shopping, cuban cigars, real filet mignon and fresh seafood for when you hit that baseketball parlay, and roadside grills for when Chamberlain lets up 5 runs in the 8th, day trips to nearby islands, people out having a good time that you can approach and interact with, you don't have to worry for your safety and there are no misunderstandings as the whole island speaks freakin english and uses USD currency.
In Medellin you can screw and go back to your room or walk around and look at fat statues while looking over your shoulder between bites of a leather sandwich. Or you can go totally freakin nuts and visit a dead drug lord's grave. I've been 9 times and that tombstone gets more and more interesting every time.
On SXM there are so many little things to see and do and being able to safely get to and belly up to 7 different air conditioned bars be it 1PM during the day or at 2AM, where 30-40 girls hanging out in lingerie where you can interact with them or watch them interact around you is something that just does not exist in Medellin.
There is a mental level of awareness you must have 24 hours a day in Medellin and that can become taxing and tiresome. This is one of the un realized reasons why so many skip all that and stay at the Mansion here in Medellin. I have never been in a cab on Curaçao or Sint Maarten wondering if the driver is going to pull off on a side street and who knows what is going to happen.
Overall Medellin is a great place but not for everyone. So come down and see for yourself. At the risk of offending some really good people here and many personal good friends I find that the guys who love visiting Medellin (not including my buddy Ricker) are the ones who may be a little strapped for cash or just want to bust a nut and not much esle as the difference between a $25 girl in a smoggy city with nothing more than fat statues and crappy food, and a $45 girl on an island paradise, over the course of the week matters tremendously to them. I look at that board once in a while since I love to go to a nice beach. Seems just like LE says but what this place needs is someone to open a CB1 or CB2 or a My Place. The rooms there are quite expensive in the winter.
Funny I forgot about being able to play the ponies in SXM. I wish MDE would open a horse parlor to fill in the down time.
I think after reading this report I will forget the DR, and when my ship comes in I will head for this island instead.
