This will sound odd, but I recently visited Dubai for a week with a buddy and if you've been there, you know nearly all the help is imported from the Philippines. These beautiful ladies were everywhere. Once I go to the hotel, I realized how poorly these ladies are treated by not only the locals, but most everyone visiting the region. Just for shits, I began complimenting each beautiful Philippina from the front counter, coffee bar, restaurant, etc and before I realized it, I had these beautiful women following me like puppies. Just being treated like a human really aroused these ladies and before the week was up, I had more than just one free, beautiful tour guide with benefits as if they were longtime GF's. Overall, I didn't care for Dubai, but the food and Philippina's made the trip perfect. I could almost be convinced to return just for the free strange. I guess the point I'm making is at least here, you have a good change of meeting an honest lady with good intentions. BTW, we stayed at the Ramada Dubai which was full of beautiful employees as well as being very close to several bars chocked full of Chinese and European working girls.

You should also understand that women are getting sick and tired of guys on DIA and other sites playing them for suckers and just delighting in sadistic fun, and they need to have proof that a guy is actually here and not bullshitting them.

Just last week a woman had arranged to meet me at Mall of Asia (MOA) at 10. 30 am. When I arrived at around 10. 15 am I texted her asking if she was on the way. After she confirmed that I was actually there at MOA she arrived maybe 5 mins late.

She told me how just a few days earlier she had been chatting with a guy and arranged to meet at MOA for lunch. He never showed up, after promising her lunch and transport fares. She told me she was so pissed off as she had borrowed money to get there and only had enough to get back home so no food. That's why she waited until I proved I was there before she left home. She thought she could trust him as he seemed so "nice".

The worst part of this story is that the guy sent her a message that night asking if she had gone to MOA and was laughing and gloating about how he had scammed her. All the time he was in his poky little town in Ohio back in the states. She blocked him.

She also admitted that she usually expects he would have a local CP number and had forgotten to check.

This is one of the contributing factors for why there are multiple sari-sari stores around every poor community. Planning ahead to buy a large bottle of cooking oil that could last a month or so isn't going to happen. The mindset is that they'll never have enough spare money-and it's too far to the Rustan's supermarket-to buy the larger quantity of oil. It's often a reality that they don't have enough money to buy it, but it's also a mindset related to always spending whatever is in the pocket. So instead they go repeatedly to the nearest sari-sari and buy half a cup of oil poured out into a little plastic bag, just enough to cook the current pot of food on the charcoal burner or single burner gas stove. And the plastic bag will soon be on the ground, waiting for the next downpour to be washed into some waste water grate where it backs up the runoff and helps flood the street. Cynical? Maybe. But I've watched it happen. Okay, some have trash cans in the home, but a kid with a candy wrapper standing a meter from a trash can is more likely to throw it on the ground. Impulse buying and environmental neglect are different faces of the same coin.[/QUOTE]The multiplicity of sari-sari stores does carry AFAIAC the same implications. Quite frankly the situation in France even in Paris was not that different a few decades ago, why bother stocking up on food when the stores were only a few doors away, even earlier (and certainly even now in the Phils) the lack of refrigerators forced people to buy some products quite frequently (meat, fish, dairy, bread and pastries). Besides it was a wonderful way to keep housewives busy before television and the kids were often dispatched to help for such errands (just as in the Phils again).

How many people in the Phils are actually quite beyond walking distance from any supermarket, most.

Sari-sari stores generally owned and kept by women are for me the embodiment of a certain spirit of free enterprise and an attempt to do at least something against grinding poverty, I have been in certain African countries where people starve on their door steps w / o doing anything of the kind.

As to the plastic bags yes it is a curse but why does it take so long to come up with some bio-degradable substitute?

Concerning to the alleged hospitality it may be genuine (although avoiding losing face may be a factor) but it is not 100% disinterested and the "rich" foreigner is certainly expected to somehow come up with some form of compensation later (regalos, pasalubong etc) and if not don't expect a repeat performance. As to the entertainnment of the extended family it is a small price to pay for the ritual "sacrifice" (wink, wink, sly giggles) of one of its young female members.

Have to agree with you. I hang in Singapore primarily and I find 1. The filipinas are generally looked down upon and treated badly and 2. If you show them a little kindness and treat them like a woman, they are very grateful. Now, of course (and other members will agree perhaps) , some are out for money. But many are not.

Its a real puzzle to me why people feel they can treat these girls like they are "nonpersons", but I see this in the SG maid system all the time. And your comments about Dubai mirror what one of my filipina GFs tells me about her experience when she was working there.

It's a sad world but a reality that we see how these girls can be treated.

GG[/QUOTE]In the UAE and the Middle East as a whole the pinoy is seen by the locals (Arabs) as a hard worker who won't complain. Also understand Arab mentality is such that they think they are the best so will always treat anyone but especially TCNs (third country nationals) like dogs / underlings. The DHs who work for local families have the worst deal, poor salary (unlikely to be the minimum the PI government insist on, some have no mobiles, no days off etc). They don't complain much so the locals loves them for that also

Just be careful with what you put in DIA if you are concerned about your privacy.

I did use my real photo but age change and handle that was unrelated (or so I thought).

Just ran a google search and BANG. 1st hit was my name and photo, it picked up from another link I had totally not realised.

My DIA pic is now a resemblance rather than me!
