No Dorman. I actually measured the total KM from Ratu Plaza end of Sudirman to Hotel Indonesia Circle andit was @ 10 km. Sari Pan Pacific is @ 1 km, rather 1100 metres from Hotel Indonesia circle, though it looks close. From the Ratu Plaza end of Sudirman, Blok M is around 4 to 6 kms is my guess. I have not measured this stretch. I was myself surprised at the length of Jl. Sudirman.

Any advise on a hotel not too expensive not too cheap within walking distance to the blok?

I stayed there once and it was O.K. -- decent rooms, service and restaurant -- good but not great. I did not think it was good value for the money. For $50 or $60 more you can stay at the Mulia, Hyatt, Shangrila, among others. Or for $50 less you could stay at Atlet Century Park -- while the rooms aren't as nice, I like the restaurants, amenities and location as much or more than the Pan Pacific.
Regarding location, John already answered your question about distance to Blok M. I think it's actually closer to the hot spots in North Jakarta than to Blok M, but not convenient to either. The hotel is close to Jalan Jaska and a few bars and Karaoke's where you should find some easy women. Also there's the McDonalds across the street, and the Hard Rock Cafe is fairly close. But these aren't great mongering spots. I checked out the Pit Stop bar at hotel several nights and didn't have any luck -- it seemed like more of a local scene -- not any women looking for foreigners, or at least ones like me that don't speak the language.
Stayed a few nights there about a year ago. I thought it was a great place. Better than Atlet Century, but not the top of the line. Atlet is a better value, the rooms are large (although a bit older), the restraunt is good, for about $30/night less.

I guess we've gotten away from Limp's question, but then this is the hotel section. If the Sari Pan Pacific is only $30 more now, then I'd agree, the Atlet is better value, but not by a long shot. What I liked about the Atlet:
1. Senayan Mall is at your back door.
2. A park is at your front door.
3. C.J.'s is around the corner and Blok M is a short taxi ride away.
4. Good, reasonably priced food in the buffet restaurant
5. Business center is cheap and personnel are efficient.
6. There is no walk of shame. You just walk in the back door from the Senayan mall side and take the elevator up to the room. You don't have to worry whether that cute receptionist you're trying to date will find out about your latest Blok M ****.
7. They have the amenities of a much more expensive hotel -- Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, and a health club. Aside: I once saw several drop dead beautiful masseuses there, but the only time I tried it out I was assigned a real dog, and she wanted US$100 for a HJ.

Hmm, just wondering how many km's this will be. Crossing jl. Imam Bonjol with Cokroaminoto to Sarinah Thamrin then to Pasar Majestic in Kebayoran. I walked that stretch to have a different vieuw of a part of Jakarta.

You can try Hotel Losari, which is bang opposite Blok M Plaza. Or try Ambhara, whoich is a bit on the higher side. The other alternative is just check into Hotel Melawai and the 6th floor has the Maribaya and behind it there are a whole lot of Karaoke Bars. Jl Falatehan is walking distance, in case you cut across. If not a Bajaj will cost you IDR 5K which is less than half a dollar.

The main difference between South America and Indonesia is the assortment of the color of skin of the local girls that comes with their origin. Here you have snowwhite till pitch black everywhere, while in Indonesia there's less variety. It's more like only locals (from Sabang to Merauke) and Chinese.
Planning a Jakarta weekend trip mainly for mongering. Was planning on staying at the Mercure or the Hotel Atlet Century to be close to the action ( though the latter actually looks a little far from Blok M- [url]http://jakartablokm.com/guides/hotel-map.htm[/url]).
But when I went to the internet sites for both hotels, the prices look a little higher than previously (Mercure is 660,000, the Atlan Century only has $77++ rooms for when I will be there). Noticed that the Intercontinental is having a
"Stay for 2 nights, pay for one" special through AsiaTravel.com - [url]http://www.asiatravel.com/indonesia/intercontinental_midplaza/index.html[/url]
so that would bring the cost per night down to $75, including taxes- that's a great rate for that good a hotel. However, how far is it from the action, and what is the walk of shame like?

I always stay at the Atlet and find it to be very GFF. The walk of shame is only what you make of it. There is a back enterance and I have never had GF get checked going in and/or harassed leaving.
The Atlet is close by CJ's and both Senayen Plaza and Senayen City malls.
Not too far by taxi to Block M.
