I've taken a few short trips to Bogota from Medellin, no luggage, just my backpack. In Bogota, I hopped on the bus to Portal Dorado, got on the Transmilenio and rode to within 3 blocks of my hotel. I think it was 1600 pesos at the time and probably saved 45 minutes. When I returned, I got on the bus to San Diego, walked 1 block and hopped on a bus which dropped me right in front of my apartment. 9500 for the airport bus, 1800 for the other and took maybe 10 minutes longer. Bus was more comfortable than any taxi.

At the time exchange rate was about 2500 to 1. Savings were more than $10, but it wasn't about the savings. Midday traffic in both cities can be terrible. Being stuck in traffic in a bus is, to me, slightly better than being stuck in a taxi.

Everyone who visits is going to have different priorities, different interests and different comfort levels. The biggest mistake I've seen people make is to let someone else determine what will be best for them.

Nounce is absolutely right. Put the information out there and allow others to make the decisions which best fit their style.

For the record, I've taken white taxis, yellow taxis, Uber, been picked up by a chica who gave me a hand job all the way to Medellin and who spent 4 hours trying to fuck me senseless, all to get from the airport to Medellin. I've also had friends pick me up and I've rented cars.

I guess I'm the OP who asked about the different ways of transit and I appreciate the intel I'm getting here. I believe that this type of forum as well as one I use for my own home territory mongering is a great place to share info and I for one always contribute to the geographical locations I'm experienced with to help others without passing judgement on anyone's personal preferences. So to suggest that I should stay at home just because I would be interested in looking at different cost options of transit and even venues for mongering is just so damn disrespectful. Just because I would rather look at all options available rather than do things only certain ways doesn't mean that I won't enjoy my trip.

Many general tourists on Tripadvisor have since highly recommended using buses and Metro to get around. One even warned about how a taxi driver went ballistic because the passenger got out on the wrong side of the car so recommended taking other public transportation to avoid such characters.

And yes, I am trying to stretch out my travel dollars since Colombia is only one country I'm visiting on this trip. I'm also visiting Peru, Panama and Cayman Islands (where I'm paying $280 US per night for my accommodations) so if I look like a cheap Charlie in Colombia -- too fracking bad! It's my darn trip. Guys on my home territory mongering forum did warn my about the existence of some disrespectful individuals on the Colombia forum and they sure were right.

When I finally do my trip, I'll be sure to report what I see, what worked well and what maybe did not to help out others without passing judgement on others.

If you are that short on money maybe traveling thousands of miles away for some mongering is not the play. I am going back in May and I keep hoping to find some new reports here but its just all BS LOL.

They think that if you close the door with any kind of strength then the car is going to fall apart. Can anyone explain that?

So you will have to excuse me that when I was in Colombia the month before that I only spent $20 per day on airbnb and me and my girl rode the bus 2 hours to Paipa for $8. 70 each each way instead of taking a taxi. A lot of people are spending money on more things than going to Colombia to fuck hookers during their leisure.

Having spent much of the last five years here, I've found the ladies hanging out around Parque Lleras (as in the casas and strip clubs) to encompass the full spectrum of Chicadom. In terms of looks: The occasional gem, most always several in the quite attractive to doable arrange, and the rest in the you "you couldn't pay me to...... " category. Some of the El Centro Rats on this thread claim that there's no difference in the quality of chicas to be found loitering about Parque Lleras (or in Gustos for that matter) and those in Plaza Botero and vicinity--and insist that there's, in fact, a large number of chicas working both locations, but charging 4 times the price in Lleras. In their view the only difference between the hotter lookin Llleras chicks and the plainer looking Botero broads is a lot of make-up and pricier / sexier outfits. Although I've never recognized chicas from El Centro in Parque Llleras, I don't doubt that there may well be a fair amount of overlap in the girls working both locations. But (speaking as someone who has spent a fair amount of time in El Centro strip clubs--Barre Ejecutiva, Conejitos, etc. -- and meandering about the Plaza Botero, Calle 53, Avenida de Greiff/Raudall mongering grounds), in my experience, in Parque Llleras one still finds a good number of chicas of a type (quality of looks; education and / or more European ancestry in some cases) that you'd never see in El Centro in your lifetime--except perhaps at midnight mass on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve).

I've met two (in my pretty selective view, quite beautiful) chicas in Parque Lleras whom I have seen reqularly for a couple of years in my apartment (one blondish, European parentage, college educated) --and who each get tested regularly for STDs and provide BBFS, often start our sessions with a leisurely, pro-quality stripshow/twerk-dance session, and are enjoyable to hang out with. Even you plan on going to centro and buying 40 k pussy airbnb costs flight costs food costs. They all add up so with that being said it's a general rule to bring extra.

To believe that mongers are altruistic guys who want to share information freely to help others without passing judgment on others is naive. The only common link among all of us is that we want to have sex with attractive women and we are willing to pay for it. That by itself is not enough to make us a brotherhood with a lot of common interests. If you read the thread for at least a few pages, you would quickly see that there is a lot of name calling, believe that I'm doing it right and you're doing it wrong, you guys are a bunch of simps because you do certain things, I pay this much and if you pay any more you're an idiot, and other things like that.

It is the way it is because we are all so different and we don't have much in common other than wanting to have sex with attractive women and willingness to pay for it. There is also always this conflict. If we say a lot of positive things about Medellin and make it easier for everyone to come here, there would be a lot more guys coming here. And yet guys here constantly complain that there are too many guys coming here.

In many ways this thread is no different than discussion about politics. People have different opinions on how to do it right in Medellin and they have firm convictions that the way they are doing it is the way it needs to be done and if you're not doing it that way, you're a sucker or a lowlife.

So I do enjoy reading about other people's experiences yet at the same time you might notice that I've almost never asked for assistance on how to do things in Medellin. Instead I just do research on the internet and configure things out myself. I do ask myself this question, do I want to encourage more guys to come to Medellin and if so, why is that a good thing for me?

Has anyone checked out the streetwalker scene in Mayorista by Itagui? I read there is (or maybe was years ago) a streetwalker scene out there.

In Europe and North America, cars must have side impact panels in the doors to be street legal. There is no such requirement in Colombia. Side impact panels increase the weight and rigidity of car doors. They also of course greatly increase safety. Closing the panel equipped car doors requires more force than closing doors that don't have the panels. This is why locals sometimes don't manage to fully close doors on those few occasions when they find themselves in cars of international specification. That is also why those of us used to vehicles of international specifications use more force than necessary to close the car doors.

That is the factual background. Now for the more meaningful cultural notes. There is very little culture of vehicle maintenance in Colombia of the sort there is in the more developed world. The mentality here is avoiding use equals maintenance. This is why in even the hottest weather Colombian motorists keep their ventilation fans off. It is why during heavy rain, drivers don't turn on their windshield wipers (which are more often than not well past replacement condition) until the road is all but invisible. It challenges logic but the traditional driver wisdom in Colombia is cars will suffer structural damage if the doors are shut too forcefully too many times. In fact, few cars here are on the road long enough for that to occur but this is not a place where long term planning or analysis are very prevalent. It's confusing to the gringo mentality that drivers fret so much about how forcefully a door is closed but drive on dead shocks and worn springs for years, accelerate heavily toward red lights and traffic jams, rarely use neutral to coast or downshift to adjust speed instead of alternating between full acceleration and pumping the brakes over and over again. For the next thread on this subject we can talk about the vehicle horn as emergency equipment vs the way it's used for entertainment and an expression of impatience here.

I'm more salty about this than is reasonable because the more you find out about what's behind it the more ridiculous it seems. Whenever anyone even mentions it to me more I close the door, I just leave it open and let the driver close it exactly the way he wants. Life is too short to deal with that nonsense.
