I think it's actually the opposite --that the ladyboys are the ones invading the space of the hot ladies. It used to be (is it still? I'm not in BKK) that the LB's would stand right in front of the Nana entrance, same side of street, and the real girls would be across the street and in the parking lot. It seems as if the LB's have crossed the street, so to speak, invaded enemy territory.

I will be staying at the Majestic Grande in August, directly opposite Annie's, on Soi 2 closer to Sukhumvit than Mariott. The MJ is little on the expensive side, rated 3, 700 for walk-in room including breakfast, but I got 3, 000 for a Deluxe Room thru internet. Anyways best value for money in my (short) BKK experience being 1 week last August.
Will definitely check than new place out! Would be great if they maintain that 3am closing time deal and prices. 2, 000 baht for LT, literaly 100m from my hotel wow! However you didn't mention if they had barfines applicable.
i haven't posted for a while, so i thought i would add something to this forum.
many guys come to bkk for the very first time and experience the awesomeness of the go-go bars here, but have many misconceptions of how the bars functions. here's a short list of what you need to know about them in no particular order of importance.
-all of the girls "must" come to work. the girls and the mamason all get 2 days off each month. if they do not show up to work they will have to pay for the bar fine that day, usually 600b
-most of the girls will come on time 6:30-7pm. if they are late they will be fined by the bar, resulting in a deduction in salary
-it is better to tip than buy a lady drink. here's why, the bars normally charge 120-160 for a lady drink. she only gets 50b of that, so i usually buy one drink if press for another one by the manager, i'd refuse, instead i would slip the girl a 100b note that will get her to smile.
-girls who are bar-fined for short time will come back, not all but a lot will. when i first went there i read somewhere on this forum that once a lady gets bar-fined she can not return back to work for the night that is false info. so it is better to go early if you want the "first shot".
-thai girls, even girls working in go-go bars are extremely jealous. if you go with one, one night and return to go with another, don't expect her to be please with you. she might refuse to go with you again ever because you have made her "lose face" in front of her bar friends. so if she really like a girl and you want to repeat with her, simply avoid her bar for that night. she will understand.
-thai girls love teddy-bears, then again all girls do. 300-400b can get you a lot in return, so it is a good return on your investment. remember a lot of customers tip, but not many give gifts. besides she can look at the bear and long for the day you will return to thailand. ( yeah, right :) ) freebies will be had if you do this.
-the staff, mamason, and girls working in the bars will lie bluntly to you about everything and anything. for example, i was in a nana bar when i notice a really good looking girl sitting with another customer. so the moment the customer leaves i motioned for her to come sit with me. granted i was drunk, but i came to realized that "she" was a "he". a very good looking "he", but nevertheless, a "he". i asked the servers and the mamason about this and i was repeatably assured "there are no lady boys working here". well, i did not pay the bar fine and went to another bar, only to fine out from other girls i know who used to work in that bar that there are lady boys. so be warned, trust no one, not even yourself.
-there's a 10,000b lifetime bar-fine. if you plan to spend a little time in thailand and have decided to spend it with your sexy new friend. you should do the calculations.
if you plan on spending more than 16 days with her, you should ask the mamason about the 10k life-time bar fine for her. this means that for as long as the girl stays with you, you're covered. even on the next time you come to thailand.
i would only do this if you are sure that the girl is someone you want to spend a lot of time with. i have done this on one occasion and the investment is worth it.
for the girl, it is a honor to have a customer paid this amount. so she will be very pleased with you.
this works in most go-go bars. just ask the mamason.
-the mamason/staff/girls will try to squeeze you for tips. say no. there's no shame in it because it is there job to squeeze you and it is your choice to say no.
-a lot of girls like simple food, so do take them to fancy places where they will feel out of place and can not eat the food. i can not recall how many times a girl i am with will tell me about a unpleasant experience eating sushi, mcdonalds, arabic food. ( i like all time of food) just take them to a nice thai restaurant and feed them, if you want, otherwise send them home, so they can get their papaya salad. ( this alone will save u a lot of money)
-most ( almost all) girls are looking for sponsors, who will spend them money each money, so they can brag to their girls-friends about it. so be warned.
-dancers are paid 7-10,000b per month, waitress are paid 5000b-6000b per month. 50b paid to the lady for a lady drink. mamason are paid 15,000b per month.
-you can bar-fined the waitresses. many will go with you, the only reason why they don't dance is because they're either too shy to or don't know how.
-the many girls are **** in the go-go bars, so if this is a concern check their ids. this year is 2552 for the buddhist calendar, so do the math. ( if the police shows up and your girl runs and hide in the back, then she's ****) you don't need to worry, the police are their to collect their bribe money. they will not even look at you.
-most are either in a relationship or looking to get into one with a thai guy. many girls will lie about their "brother", who is actually their thai bf. if your thai girl has a brother/male cousin living with her or just hangs around, then you will know. thai girls do not live with brother/male cousin alone! ( i've been fooled by this. )
-you can not rescue them. simply because they do not want you to rescue them. some of these go-go bars girls enjoy a carefree lifestyle and i have seen many sponsor expect them to stay home and not go out at night. unless you are living here, this will not happen, so please get that out of your head. the relationship will end with you being called a controlling freak ( no offense, i've been called that once or twice)
-now and then a thai girl, who is working in a go-go will fall in love with you for one reason or another. these reasons can be genuine so you can open your heart if you want. the choice is up to you.
i hope my article will save you from reading some mis-information and give you a better understanding of the underbelly of bangkok go-go bars. i don't have much insider experience for pattaya, but my guess is that most of what i've written here can be apply there too.

i would differ on a couple of minor points.
not every girl loves working in the bar. therefore there is a percentage who want to be rescued by a white knight in shining armour. but you have have to really know the girl first. many will take multiple sponsers either instead of being rescued or up until right knight arrives.
there are certain bars that have stiff fines for ladies not making their quote of lady drinks for the month. so buying lady drinks can really help the girls short of their quota as much as a cash tip.
it turns out that i rarely wanted to drink much alcohol and don't drink beer.
so rather than buy myself a drink, i could assist the girl by buying her a drink and then stealing it back to drink myself.
by all means ask the girl if she would prefer a lady drink or a tip.
tossing ping pong balls to the girls is a means for the bar to rip you off as the house takes half of the money. better to give all the girls a small tip rather have the most aggressive girls get most of the balls and the shy ones get very little. or just tip the girls you like.
guys that are not on a tight budget can afford to spend a little on tips. being really stingy with girls that are really struggling finacially does not make you well liked.
90% of girls in the bar are wondering how they will be able to pay the rent etc.
mostly the gogo bars get boring pretty quickly, unless there are particular girls that you really like.

GREAT report, Andy! I would only add some finer details, and I'm sorry I don't have the actual numbers, but I've been told by one of my BarGirl friends that there's something of a sliding scale on how much the girl gets of the cost of a lady-drink.
Maybe this varies from bar to bar, but I was told that she gets a smaller amount for the first so-many drinks each month, a larger cut for the next so-many, and an even larger cut for drinks in excess of a certain amount each month. This same sort of sliding scale also applies to the number of times she gets bar-fined per month. In fact, she is required to have a certain number of bar-fines per month or there will be some deduction from her salary. After she reaches that number there is no deduction and if she reaches some higher number of bar-fines she gets a cut of the bar-fine.
As I said, the actual numbers (or even this "sliding scale" arrangement) may vary from bar to bar. But can anyone provide more information on this?

The same is true with barfines, if they do not meet the quota, then they will pay the rest. If they want another day off then they must bar fine themselves.
Every bar will be a little different, but the quotas are pretty standard, just how many is the question. I have a friend who used to be a dancer, but she has gotten too old, so she is now a waitress. Her bar fine is more, and she cannot be taken out on the weekend or holidays. When she was a dancer, her quota was 60 lady drinks/ month and 15 bar fines. So many months she worked for free, just the tips that she got under the table. Now that she is a waitress, she has not been barfined in nine months. I barfined her one night and took her and a friend to dinner and all the girls cheered because she finially got a night off. The amount that she made when whe was a dancer was 50thb/lady drink.
The amounts may be a little different for each bar, but this will give you an idea on what they make.
My GF runs a kareoke bar and the singers make on the average 300thb a night. If they go with a customer, they must pay the barfine (300thb). Their set up is different, there are no lady drinks or barfines for the customers, the gals just sit and help you drink ;)

look at the id. it is currently 2552 so if she was born before 2534 you are good to go.
As an older guy who had a brief visit to Bangkok 28 years ago, the time is ripe to return, but this time to spend a month there. Want to come off season (monsoons dont worry me) Any suggestions for accommodation? Can one rent apartments? Or if not how to find a place that I can have a girl. Oh yes, the girl! Is there a chance to have a regular, preferably live-in girl, and if so where would I find her and what would she expect? [/quote]for what it's worth, my hotel manager told me today very insistently that 'no girls under 20 allowed in hotel'. the current squeeze looks fairly young so he wanted to study her id card. not sure if it's just this hotel, and not really an issue for me.
