IMO, HK Staff will demand the VIP Card.
All your info may be stored on the computer, but every time I've been there they have demanded to see my VIP card and write down the card number. Especially beware the valet service. Last night, I was getting my parking ticket validated at the valet stand outside and sure enough, the HK valet / chauffeur "forgot" to give me back my VIP card. I stood there waiting after he gave me the parking validation stub and finally he handed me the VIP card after I pointed at it on his desk. He got a tip anyway from me, but I wonder if the HK staff sell the "forgotten" VIP cards at a discount to their buddies so they can get free drinks and perks at HK club? This would explain why they make you buy a new one even though your data is on the computer. The "forgotten" VIP card has already been sold to a local for $10.
Their policy may have changed but a couple years ago I lost my card and they would not replace it unless I paid the full $50 for a new membership. But you can check in using your name to receive your benefits because your info is stored in the computer.
