Overdue Trip Report. May 1 -May 9
I have also been to Medellin last April but I had to cut trip short due to issues back home. I had notes for the May trip but have been busy catching up on work. Some folks find these reports useful so I will report what happened on my most recent trip.
SFO- JetBlue- I take JetBlue from SFO (San Francisco) to FLL (Fort Lauderdale) to MDE (Medellin) Jose Maria Cordova. I took the 2:45 pm flight this time instead of 10 pm flight. That was a mistake. When I got to Fort Lauderdale it was midnight which was too late to get a hotel since the flight to MDE was at 9 am. If you have a choice between FLL and MIA choose MIA.
MDE Customs- I had already noted in an earlier post that there is heightened sensitivity with "gringo" travelers. I did the Check Mig in advance so I didn't have a problem there. I was 3rd in line so it went quickly. They really want to know where you are staying so it helps to have address and phone number of your host.
Laureles. I stay in Laureles at an Airbnb on the 5th floor. I like this place because it has an video monitor gate. You can "buzz" your guests in. There's no security but the gates are locked and key card type entry you tap and green light comes on and gate opens. This is a good place for safety and privacy. I talk about this in earlier posts.
