Could you advise me, what s the best period to go to Curacao? I mean when campo is full of girls. I was going this February, how do you think it is good idea or not?

I was there in March. It should be just as good in February.

Yes, it is a small Island, but if you swim, dive or sail you will keep busy. Also it is a short hop to the other Islands, Aruba and Bonaire.

From my experience it does not really matter. I've been there many times mostly spring-summer-fall. It used to be much better 3-4-5-6 years ago - in any season. Except i have not been there in winter.
Last summer 2006 was the worst - there were problems with girls visas, not because of summer.

Goga Fun, you are absolutely correct. If possible the best time to travel to Curacao is to get into Mr Peabody's "wayback" machine and go to CUR in the summer of 2002! The quality down there was amazing then!

There were two Paisas (as I recall) shuffling around Campo that were "dead ringers" for Shakira and at the same time - a Dominicana from Santiago that looked identical to Salma Hayek! Imagine sleeping with Shakira and Salma Hayek on the same day. (lol) ;)

Quality has dropped over the past few years, but in terms of weather concerns and other travel issues - there really is no time throughout the year that's any better than any other time to go.

Still one of my favorite places. :)

Goga, I hope that's the case and I heard as much from the bartender (damn, that dude has been there forever!). I was down there for the 4th year straight last Sep '06 and there was maybe 3 gals in 6-7 range. The rest were about 20+ lbs too much. Any recent reports on the quantity & quality? March of 2003 was bliss. I'm hoping that returns, so any recent reports would be helpful. peace...

I’m putting together my first trip to Curacao for late May early June. Actual dates will depend on availability of frequent flyer seats. Plan on renting a car and visiting the Campo on a daily bases but I’m also interested in doing some serious diving. Thinking about staying at the Sunset Waters Beach Club. Website says it about ½ hour (15 miles) from airport. Good idea or not? Also do you pay in guilders or dollars at the Campo? Are ATM machines readily available? I never attempted a trip like this so any advice would be appricated.

Campo is alive and well. For accomodations I would recommend Apartamentu Holanda in Julianadorp. This is an apartment complex located in a quiet residential area 10 mins from the airport and 15 mins from Campo. There is also a large well stocked Supermarket 2 mins away.

For car rental I recommend Carvahome. There cars are in good condition and they offer very good rates that include own risk insurance(collision).

I am not sure about the rules regarding URL's but both these companies have websites.

US dollars are accepted everywhere. The exchange rate is US$1=1.75NAF.The fee to enter Campo is 10NAF or US$6.

If Campo is your primary purpose of going to Curacao I would recommend Apartamentu Holanda, easiest access to Campo. Also the Owner Allan is super helpful, always ready to cater to your needs.

Each person has their preferences. Campo has something for everyone, and this in a secure environment.

They take dollars(about $30 for the basics) or Guilds (50 for the same). It's really not mechnical and the nicer you are, the more you get. ATMs on site.

There are some great dive sites around curacao. The Habitat Curacao resort has an awesome night reef dive only 60-80 yards off the coast and up to 80 feet deep (active coral, eels, etc... very cool). Must dive sites are on the southeast and southwest sides of the island. There is supposedly a great cave dive, but it's been too windy each time I've been there to do that one. Perhaps this year will be calmer. Porto Maria - The valley is another great dive where the coral is on two side (ergo valley)... lots of reef life, angelfish, parrotfish, groupers, yellowtail snapper triggerfish trumpetfish, sea turtles, lobsters and sting rays.

Use Guilers at Campo.

I will be going down next week from Newark , there are direct flights but not on Saturday.

Thanks for all the info. At one point I thought about going to the DR. But after doing some research decided it would be too complicated for a non Spanish speaking newbie. A nice controlled environment like the Campo is the way to go.

Continental has a Saturday non stop flight (co1862) departing Newark at 8:50 am with a returning Saturday non stop (co1863) departing at 2:20pm. I had no trouble using frequent flyer miles to reserve a seat on the May 5 flight returning on May 12. I also reserved a Toyota Yaris from Alamo for $188. If it looks to small I have a back up reservation at National for a Mitsubishi Lancer ($233; about the same price as quoted by Carvahome). Actually I think Alamo and National maybe the same company prices & websites are identical.

I have not decided on lodging yet but I’m still leaning toward Sunset Waters. The resort has good reviews on the scuba boards but poor reviews on TripAdviser. The Habitat reviews indicate the house reef is great but the resort is getting a bit run down. Has any one stayed at either recently? The Holanda Apartments look nice and priced great at $56 per night but I want to roll out of bed and onto a boat.

If anyone is going to be in Curacao between 5/5 – 5/12 and would like to hook up for nightly visits to the Campo or for some diving let me know.

Sunset Waters is an all-inclusive and great for diving. By Curacao standards, it is a bit far - on the west side of the island. But if you have a car,nothing is far away, specially in the night when there is hardly any traffic. You can pay either guilders or dollars at Campo, makes no difference to the girls as they get locals and foreigners alike. A piece of advice, like in almost any similar place, if you treat the girls well, you will have a good experience as many of them are flexible once you are inside their room. A bit of Spanish will help, but is not necessary. Enjoy your trip and if you need more info, you can PM me.

The best diving is the West End, Sunset Waters may be too far a drive at night in the dark, Habitat is okay but still a very dark drive at night. The best hotels that have diving, close to town for restaurants and 15 min from Campo are Marriott, Hilton and Holliday. I have driven to Habitat at night and it is very dark and remote. After 8 visits to Curacao I decided to stay close to downtown ie Marriot. It would be better to jump in a car in the AM and drive up to Habitat or Sunset Waters and do your diving and then head back in the afternoon to your hotel. All inclusive gets boring. Too much to see in Curacao to get stuck in a resort all day. Also Habitat is close to some swamps, mucho moskitoes in November, in he AM you could almost inhale them.

I got a quote from Thrifty for $28/day and with insurance it balloned to over $40/day. Carvahome's price includes insurance with a $500 deductable. I would suggest you call and speak to someone to avoid any surprises.
