Hi all, I'm thinking of going to the motogp next year on Lombok. Just wondering what is Kuta like to stay. Any night action, bars and stuff like that.

In the south, in Kuta you can brave the Surfers bar where soem guys will appear with girls late at night. It is however a potentially hazardous time to be out whit local drunk lads whit often something to prove. Its definitely more a bring your own, vibe in the south. Things are slowly changing with the influx of money and more tourism. But traditional values, mean even Jakarta or Bali level antics are frowned upon. They ran a local karaoke shack out of business which was set up fro the construction workers from Java who were building the track.

Stayed at Meliá Purosani. Very nice hotel and one minute walking distance to Malioboro street. Took a walk the first day but did not see any obvious street walkers. Lots of girls. But hard to know who is in the game. Seems like whole of Yogyakarta are there in the evening. Street food is tasty. Lots of varieties. But mongerwise I guess nothing is happening. Did not try any massage places but had a street leg massage for three dollars.

Went on a whole day private tour of Borobudur and Prambanan temple. Can see Mt. Merapi. It seems there was a minor eruption and earth quake. I must have slept through it.

Borobudur is certainly one of the wonders of the world. Now they allow to climb to the top with a guide max per day of 500. Since this was a slow season I did not have any problem getting a ticket. They group max 15 at a time with English speaking guide. I have to warn this climbing is not for the faint of heart. You should be in excellent condition without real health issues. Hot as hell to boot. There is no shade or place to rest. Site opens 5 am. Must be cooler at that time slightly. I went around 11 am. Certainly had my cardiac efficiency test done. Good for mongering as well.

Prambanan temple is okay. Nothing spectacular. Have seen many like that in other places. My tour guide is an excellent guy. Came back really tired and took a nap.

Went again in the evening to Malioboro street. This time there were couple of touts discretely asking if I want a girl. Being not sure if it is a trap I did not show interest. There were certainly many local pretty girls walking in groups. Many smile but I doubt if it is anything other than friendly smile.

At least to see Borobudur is off my bucket list. Definitely worth it.

Only place I have been to is Heavens Spa. It wouldn't surprise me if regular masseuse offers extra for a hefty amount. Don't expect anything like Jakarta, Bali or even Bandung.

Yogyakarta no Jakarta like classic.

When I was staying in hostels Jogja 2020, the owner was trying to ask want girl.

Look for hostel that is partying type or owner manager solo guy there hosting events.

There is street going inside the kampung across from train station. Saw quite a few girls 8/10 price is 300 k a pop.

Its just not a thing there, too many backpackers. Your best bet is Senggigi, Lombok. Couple spas / karaoke places there but don't expect anything special.

It's the maze of narrow alleys across the Ps. Kembang road from the main Yogyakarta train station (some call it Tugu, it's for 1st class trains).

In Google Maps, look for Gg. Sosrowijayan V and IV. Between Sosrowijayan and Ps. Kembang roads. Entrances are small and unassuming, they don't want people with no business of being there going through.

Not at all attractive nor accessible to foreigners. About a dozen worn women in the daytime. Probably a hundred or two at night, some decent looking, but many will refuse to go with you. Some will claim to only do for drinking / karaoke.

As of 1-2 years ago, prices were 200-300 thousand IDR, though some will try for more. The entire experience is likely not even worth that little, although some of the women have a nice attitude. Dirty, noisy, poorly lit, smelly, smoky, awful place full of less than pleasant characters, but might be fun to look around. Keep your wits about you, be respectful but keep your boundaries and don't engage unnecessarily, don't walk around there drunk. Indonesian low end is not for the faint of heart. On the positive side, it's busy and not overly dangerous, as far as such places go, the blessing of SE Asia.

I was at first impressed by the numbers, but quickly grew sour on the whole experience, although I generally enjoy the low end hookers in Asia.

Yogyakarta is otherwise a wonderful city, don't get stuck in the gutter for too long. Go to Tirta Erning, Prambanan or something, wash your eyes and nose.

Do you know if Senggigi is still active?

I go here in 2008 and it was one of my best Indonesia experience with a true erotic massage who finish in a complete happy ending, in a small shop in Senggigi.
