It doesn't matter if you've lived there for years, you will always get bombarded in el centro or on the beaches. In Barranquilla they do not give a shit where you're from until you start talking, much like most of Colombia. I don't look super gringo until I start talking so I can sort of blend in most places, but Cartagena they know from a mile away you aren't Cartagenero. But I've also heard from locals in Medellin and Bogota that they treat them the same way and try to rip them off too.

Barranquilla has some nice apartments for cheap, good malls, cheap food, tourist destinations nearby or you can take a short bus or taxi ride to Santa Marta. It really isn't a bad place to be at all.

Cartagena will always have a special place for me though because I spent so much time there initially and I like the chaos of it a little. And of course there's really no other area like el centro in Colombia. But the cost of housing there has exploded in comparison to the rest of Colombia that it just doesn't make much sense anymore unless you're willing to stay more inland.

Both Bogota and Medellin are huge cities so it's pretty easy to avoid the tourist areas if you want. It's a little harder in Cartagena since it's so small but still doable if you live near the Castellana area but personally I don't like it too much.

I am in Medellin now and so far for the first two days it has been a good trip. I know there's been a lot of discussion about girls in Medellin and overpaying and how how Medellin has gone downhill. I can only talk about my personal experiences here and how it has compared to past trips.

For the first 2 days, I have enjoyed girl friend experiences with young attractive girls for a reasonable price and everything else is irrelevant. Price seems to be a very sensitive topic here so I'm not going to mention it. The amount paid was reasonable to me and all parties were happy.

Your perceptions of top escorts in the US is incorrect.
