The Copa prices seemed fairly typical for the places where you are hanging out. Sure, they are higher than what 'locals' pay. But 'locals' don't hang out in these places, unless they just like the environment or don't do this very often. The Carioca safados that I know have arrangements with girls from the favelas, and they bang them at love motels for almost nothing. For a girl from the favelas, there is that chance that she can get a white collar Brasileiro to sponsor her like a mistress if she plays her cards right. So he can pull some freebies before she gets the idea that she is just being used.

Actually, the difference between the high and low end in Rio and SP is even bigger. Try 2/3rds. The difference is the ambience and "location, location location". Girls aren't that different from place to place unless you are comparing someplace like Copa with someplace like VM.

Nice comment on language. The more Porto you can speak, the lower down the price ladder you can go. I hope to improve my Porto and be able to score non-pro freebies someday. I have spent plenty of time in Brasil but for just short periods on each trip. So my own Porto is only intermediate from self-study in my home country, and talking to people during trips. I already cancelled 2 trips to Rio and I am seriously thinking of canceling a 3rd pending some knowledge of the situation on the ground. If it is what I think it is, ANOTHER shakedown, they should open real soon. I'll just wait and see until all the players count their hard earned / extorted pennies. Lots of the girls live out in the Baixada and can't / won't make the 2 hour trip each way each day. They sleep 2 or 3 per bed! Centaurus was closed for a few days a couple of years ago. Rio antigo was closed however never opened again, same owners as 4x4 BTW. 4x4 has been closed for a day before, a couple of times actually. A number of the big São Paulo clubs were closed never to be reopened. As I said above nothing is certain, however lets cross our fingers that it will be fine.

4x4 was raided and closed 3 years ago about this time, right before my vacation. The girls told me that they re-opened the very next day. They remained open throughout my trip, despite the fact that a.) the government seized 4x4 computers and money (i.e. their bribe) then as they did now and b.) they were actually raided [b]again[/b]-- but somehow managed to re-open in a few hours.
